Great deal on the new Garmin Vivoactive 5. This price is only for the ivory but the other colours all seem to be much cheaper than any other price in the market.

If you have an AIA vitality membership you can get it for $375 from GARMIN AU.

  • Anyone has it? Is it Made in Taiwan?

    • I have one and really like it, lasts a week before needing a charge and seems to be recording things well, good detox to remove all these notifications I don't need now they pop up on my wrist.

I think it's a great balance of a fitness watch with smart watch features and hard to beat at the price point

  • So there is only one size now: 42mm, will this be too big for ladies?

Thankfully I never have that problem

I think it might be too big. I have a galaxy 6 at the moment and it's just right

    • yes, but its fine for sports. probably not the best for casual use as it will be pretty big on a small wrist.

For anyone considering this or any other Garmins… worth checking out this science based reviewer on YouTube. Does some good comparisons on the accuracy of the devices…

I went through the smart watch / fitness tracker rabbit hole for the past few weeks… decided on Pixel Watch 1 second hand for around $150 + Spigen Rugged case which I'm super happy with.

Obviously the Garmin watch has a better battery life and been doing this for way longer but Pixel Watch actually was way superior in terms of accuracy of monitoring heart rate, sleep etc in the tests. I honestly haven't had any issues with my Pixel Watch battery life … charge it once per day for 30-60 mins and it's good for a day and a bit.

    Hope this helps someone.

    • garmin is the standard for fitness watches as it automatically loads up to all platforms instantly with no extra steps like: strava, qantas health, etc….

      • Don't disagree with that but in terms of the accuracy of smart watches / fitness tracking, the data is more accurate on Pixel Watch.

They are different products though, one is a smart watch, the other is a fitness tracker really..

Runners of OZB, is this any good? What's your recommendation?

    • +2

If you're specifically interested in running, or just geek out on metrics more, consider the Forerunner 2XX series (245, 255, 265). However, this would also be adequate for most people.

    • serious running is doable, but forerunner would be best.

parkruns, fun runs, not training for the olympics: yes.

this would actually fit more a fitness lifestyle (run, swim, golf, bike, lift weights, etc…) and have more smart watch features over a dedicated forerunner watch that was made specifically for running only.

  • You can also try your luck with JB. I did a JB Deal price match to: https://tristaronline.com.au/products/garmin-vivoactive-5-sm….

The customer service person said they generally don't price match them as an authorised seller, but he still managed to do it for me. Then with Woolworths having 20X points on Ultimate gift cards, $400 equates to $40 reward dollars, bringing my total to $379.00
