10% cashback is for the catch connect website. This sale is only available on the Catch website

    • Good eye, I believe Catch GCs can't be used on Catch Connect products as well.

      • The 10% cashback at Catch connect is valid on the Shopback website, not just Catch.

The problem is that this plan is excluded. "These items are not eligible for Cashback: 120GB per 365 Days Mobile plans". And yet it is included as valid plan to the right of the exclusions. Very confusing.

        • Catch Connect stuff is 0% through Catch on SB, and this price is only available through Catch.

I can confirm that you can activate the sim after 30 days of buying. I bought 2 on 15/3, activated one on 22/4 and will activate the other one next month.

Edit: It has come to my attention that the double data may be an advertised inclusion, so if you activate outside of 30 days you may end up with only 60GB of data.

catch (optus) vs kogan (voda)… little bit more expensive probably worth it

    • -2

After Voda turned their 3G network off in Jan 2024, this is not even worth discussing.

      • +1

I thought it means that you get better 4g/5g coverage because they repurposed the frequencies

        • Except Vodafone sold those frequencies to optus. lol

      • +1

You do know they are all about to switch 3G off? What devices are you using that relies on 3G?
Switching off 3G makes 4G and 5G better, as they can refarm these frequencies.

        • Switch off may be delayed unless telcos can sort out emergency access issues for old 4G devices. Potentially 740,000 users involved.
          https://www.news.com.au/national/hidden-issue-affecting-thou…
Also recall reading something about problems with some personal health and security devices, and automated farm equipment.

          • @Igaf: I'm sure this impacts a handful of people.
It's far too expensive for the few people using it to keep paying maintenance for 3G, sometimes you just need to upgrade your devices, that's a fact of life with all technology, phones, computers, tablets, all devices.

            • @SimAus007: Don't completely disagree but a few questions immediately come to mind.
If I did have a reliance on critical health equipement would you be more sympathetic because you'd be answerable?
              What's a handful - 5?
Where did you pluck the 99.999% fk em, I'm all right Jack figure from?
What makes you think prices will drop once 3G is switched off?

Thankfully we have adults working on the issues I mentioned.

              • @Igaf: I never said prices will drop once 3G is off, but it costs a lot more to maintain another network and they can only support it for so long, people have had years to migrate to 4G. it's not as though it's a last-minute decision.
We did it with 2G, ADSL, 3G phones for 4G phones, WiFi 3 to 4, to 5 to 6, PSTN to VoIP and to mostly using mobiles for calls, we'll all manage just fine :)
The spectrum 3G uses can be used far more efficiently elsewhere (4G & 5G) as is openly planned by all 3 networks.
Each network can easily get in contact with users of the last remaining devices connected to 3G to work out a migration solution, but I can't imagine many aren't aware of its imminent closure.

                • @SimAus007:

we'll all manage just fine :)

Exactly why we need adults with expertise looking at migrations, not amateurs on a deals website.

Time you updated your knowledge. I gather the issue is with early 4G phones, as many as three quarters of a million of them according to preliminary reports. Not all will affected but a significant number may potentially fall into the emergency contact black hole that the recent Optus outage uncovered. Hence the possibility of a switch off delay while the major telcos try to find a solution.

        • Apparently not with my recent experiences. Travel to inland areas several times, no signal at all and Voda's 3g used to work well in these areas.

          • +1

@masano1: Vodafone and Optus have signed a regional network sharing deal, just waiting on approval from the ACCC, which has far more chance of being approved compared with the Telstra (incumbent) deal.
Vodafone haven't been placing 4G on regional 3G sites in a long time, so what you are saying makes sense, for Vodafone (not for Optus and Telstra though, who have no 3G only sites). None of this will matter soon for Vodafone, hopefully.

        • It caused lots of problems. Some people had phones that say 4G on their signal but now don't work on Vodafone.

The government has had tp step in to see that the other Telcos do a better job.

  • New service means new number or includes transfer from other Optus reseller (Amaysim)?

    • +3

Transfer is fine, I transferred from Coles Mobile (Optus).

    • +1

It's always based on retail brand, with all providers, it doesn't matter what physical network it's using.

  • AFAIK this was only advertised very recently, so how does one activate it before 30/4 ("the date advertised in a promotion") considering that they still need to ship the SIM card to you which will most likely arrive after the promotion ends?

    • 30/4 is when the discount ends. Activating within 30 days of purchase or the date advertised in the promo (there is none in this case) is only applicable to receive the advertised inclusions.

      • So the 30/4 date is not the date to activate by? It’s just the date which the promo(?) ends? That to me sounds like one and the same thing?

        • +1

I'm 99.99% sure, there is no specified activation date (different from the offer ending date) so the 30 days will apply. Like you said if that wasn't the case there would be no way to activate it in time.

          • @Hiphopopotamus: Ok I guess that logic makes sense too. Thanks for being a sounding board!

  • -1

Fwiw, Catch Connect doesn't have eSIM, so if your physical SIM dies while roaming then you can't do anything besides use WiFi services!

    • +11

How often do physical sims 'die'? 🤔

      • +3

In my long lifetime.. check numbers…zero so far.

      • All the time. I had 2 died on me today

      • Yep, I agree! And well guess how I know, it's happened to me and it's beyond annoying!

Can't even port out because of 2fa 😭

Luckily I've got another # with amaysim and they have eSIM and a decent roaming pack

      • When you drop your phone in the toilet/ocean maybe they will die? Or maybe they're still good if you can recover them.

I guess the main risk is that you lose the sim due to losing the phone itself including due to theft or anything.

    • Never had a SIM die, but I have my work SIM in my SIM slot and an eSIM for personal. I'd def look into this to replace my poor signal with Everyday Mobile when it expires.

  • Just keep in mind, Catch Connect is terrible for roaming $$, if that's something you need in the next 12 months. Other than that, it looks good.

    • Completely agree, the $25 was used almost instantly upon landing.

  • My plan runs out mid July. Will something better come up before then or should I go ahead and port to this before July?

    • I'm in the same boat, but in late June. I'll take a chance and wait another month or so. Maybe nothing as good or better, but there will be at least another 20 SIM card deals over the next 2 months. You should hopefully get a deal that costs around $120, though data might be a a smaller amount. I'll probably go for a 12-month Boost deal unless something better comes up.

  • Wasn't this cheaper a few weeks ago?

  • Do catch customers get access to the full Optus network? 5g included?

    Thanks

    Edit, looks like 4g only:

Catch Connect is powered by the Optus 4G mobile network.

  • If i'm already using Catch, can I use this as a recharge? If not, what's the best option to port out and back in?

    • +1

I've read a few comments where Catch will offer a good discount a week before your plan ends if you have disabled auto-recharge, can you try this? Otherwise a $2 sim should work, I would say get a Boost monthly sim for a small cashback profit but they have been gone a while.

    • Boost Mobile is worth a look

      • Thank you

  • Can confirm through Cashrewards that I received cashback on the current half price 90 day offer of Catch connect even though the Ts and Cs said no cash back applicable.

    • +1

There is nothing available on Cashrewards for Catch connect sim.

      • Was a 10% cashback offer. Limited time. Tracked 21/04 from what i can see.

  • Some ex posts suggest you can receive text whilst abroad without a roaming pack. Can anyone who has travelled abroad within the past few months confirm this? Looking at buying another 90 day pack and intend going abroad July. Thank you.

    • Yes can confirm works with catch.

  • +1

anyone managed to get voice mail working ?

    • +1

I am also having problems trying to get voicemail working. Not switched on by default and no information on their app or website.

  • Great deal but no eSIM so doesn't work for me
