Peugeot E-2008 GT SUV MY23 (Orange Fusion) from $39,990 Driveaway @ Peugeot

5150

This was a $64,990 DA car a month ago, a huge $25k price drop. To be fair this was more like a $50k car with a 65k RRP but now selling for 40k.

To put into perspective there’s only 2 EVs sub 40k DA on market, base level MG4 and GWM Ora.

This is easily the more premium of the 2.

I’ve given this a test drive, although it’s not as punchy as the MG4 it’s a nicer drive and has a much more premium feel and more features such as sunroof.

              • @keejoonc: Read what I wrote again.

There are two sentences. The first one didn't drive the second one.

The first captured my thoughts on the car's value. The second was influenced by what I've been reading in the news: cheap, quality Chinese vehicles, Tesla share prices (and recent price cuts), and the overall global sales of EVs falling.

Get your head out of your backside for two minutes and smell the hydrogen.

                • @[Deactivated]: I did. "A lot of car for the cash. I guess all EVs prices will start heading South soon".

So anyone reading this is supposed to guess that your second sentence had nothing to do with your first sentence? If so, try going back to school rather than talking about someone else's backside.

    • Yeah, I hope so. There's early adopter tax and it makes it better for everyone in the long run. Hopefully recycled batteries will be affordable compared to freshly mined stuff and have higher higher density too.

I think for the longer distances in Australia, 600km range is ideal which is good for 5hrs of 100kmh driving or a couple weeks of standard commuting and it's helpful for people without charging via solar. The 600km range helps with drops the 10-15% drop in efficiency.

French cars are for weirdo Francophiles only in Australia unfortunately.

Might be a decent purchase in Europe but I feel like you’re better off sticking with a popular make in Australia for the sake of dealer network and parts. Edit: resale too

    • +4

The same is true for all Euro cars, especially VW.

They can be long lasting in Europe using cheap backyard mechanics using tricks and shortcuts using secondhand parts from scrapped cars to keep them in the road.

But not here, mechanics charge $150 an hour now and any significant maintenance with imported parts can write off an older euro car or make it inordinately expensive to keep on the road.

Then you find the resale value is in the toilet.

      • But not here, mechanics charge $150 an hour now

No wonder they hate EVs, they can’t rip people off as easily.

Brisbane (Albion) car sales person told me today that there is only one e-2008 (grey) available at this price in the entire country (which is at Albion)

      What he meant was

Brisbane (Albion) car sales person told me today that there is only one e-2008 (grey) available at this price in the entire country that he is selling

Coz my dealership had stock, plenty

        • Whoa.

I deal with oral evidence for a living

Sounds like people for some reason talk to you, orally. Got it.

        • yea no doubt he lied to you, I was just taking the piss. Sorry you couldn't see the funny side of it.

I wonder how many of the 300 up votes are buying one. Normally this would result in OOS pretty quickly

I've put down the $500 reservation deposit

      • Refundable?

        • Yes sir

          • @the swear jar: have you test driven yet? thoughts?

            • +1

@bogstation: Not yet, waiting on call from dealership, expecting stock Wed or Thurs

              • @the swear jar: Did you get that call yet? Which colour did you reserve?

                • +1

@Cheapskate Paul: Test drove it this morning, gotta say it's pretty damn nice and met my expectations, although with my current car being a clunky 2011 Ford Mondeo diesel anything is going to be significantly better! Only had about 40mins with it, would have liked a bit more time but not possible due to demand. I went with the 'Ozbargain Orange' colour, need to make a decision by C.O.B Monday if going to buy it not.

                  • @the swear jar: Thanks for your reply. What colour was the demo please? Is your orange one in stock?

                  • @the swear jar: What city are you located? if you don't buy someone else has a chance. How was the refinement? is it quiet from road, tyre wind noise?

                    • +1

@bogstation: I'm in Adelaide. As mentioned, my daily atm is a noisy diesel so in comparison this is extremely quiet. I guess the only sound you hear is a little bit from the tyres, when breaking and the air whooshing past but it's stuff-all. Loved the interior and feels premium, only thing I disliked was quite a lot of gloss black on the centre console - shows up dust, smudges and scratches.

    • nearly 18,000 clicks to peugeot site.

      • over 27000 clicks to the peugeot website. ozbargain driving traffic, literally.

    • upvoted but didnt buy, but thats what this site is for, upvoting good deals!

  • Anyone looking in WA I can't even get through to them to see if any are left cheers

Don’t bother buying a French car in WA. Worst service ever

    • 3 available in WA this morning when I checked.

15k+ clicks, I better see one in my street next week

      …on charge.

  • A few questions,

Does the car have hill hold? Like doesn’t roll forward ?
Does it have regen braking ?
Does it come with hole charging cable ?

    • +1

I dont know about hill hold.

it has regen braking, two settings but not strong enough for one pedal driving.

it comes with type 2 cable for public charging stations, but doesnt come with a home wall socket charger, gotta buy it yourself (which im searching….)

      • Yeah strange it comes with a type 2. Might try to sell it

      • Recommend EVNEX.

  • -3

If a few ozbargainers do buy this, maybe PM me, I'll try to contact a few known EVSE sites and ask if there can be a ozb special since I assume there will be hundreds of ozbargainers needing one soon :D

  • -3

    thanks op, bought 10

  • If there were a few charging options near me, I'd certainly consider this as my first ev

    • Got a driveway?

      • This is the issue really… A lot of people don't have a driveway that some people would run cables over the curb.

Also, many apartments dont allow tenants to install chargers on their car spot.

  • I will wait a few months and see if other EVs follow suit

    • +1

Stupid reason to give a neg.

      • -6

        No it's not

        • +5

You can't deny this is a fantastic deal, whether or not you like euro cars. I think the current 414 upvotes to your 1 downvote speaks for itself…

        • In any case, your neg will be removed swiftly by the community.

  • good deal

  • Can you get $3500 rebate from WA Gov as well on this one?

    • Sure, why not? Only conditions are that you are the first registered owner (so no demo that was registered on the dealer), and the price limit is easily met.

So yes, ~$36,500. Pretty good deal if the car meets your needs.

    • have they not exhausted that number by now?

  • +6

I've summed up the complaints from these comments:
"Euro cars" — Some people just don't like Euro cars

"French cars" — Some people specifically don't like French cars (or maybe just French people in general…)

"Compliance car" — Some suggest that the car is primarily produced to meet regulatory requirements rather than being a fully developed product for the market.

"Peugeot struggle with basic electrics" — I reckon we'll see whether they're right in a few years from now

"Chinese garbage" — Aimed at the competitors (often said with no real alternative, they just want to complain)

"Peugeot are much nicer than any Tesla" — Uhh, seems like it goes both ways…

Basically, take these comments with a pinch of salt. It's an interesting read but please look at real reviews.

  • SUV? Hardly.

  • Not an LFP battery. That's a deal breaker.

    • It is strange that it’s not …. Does that mean no 100% charges ?

      • LFP last longer and no problems charging to 100%.

  • No thanks, not good range.

It would be better to shell out few extra $s and get BYD extended range. BYD are clearing 2023 stock Atto 3 for 46k. Atto 3 got awesome Tech features, premium interiors and 480KM WLTP range.

    • +1

If you call atto 3 premium interiors you’d probably call this luxury… just saying I’ve been in both.

6k extra but for demo, you can also get brand new demos for 3k less, making it 9k price difference….9 isn’t the new definition of a few is it…?

      • EVs are all about range. This compared to Atto 3, even with 10k difference, people prefer peace of mind about range and not thinking about charging always.

    • TGUK rates both 7/10 but they prefer the French interior. Amazed the BYD scored so highly, given the ride/handling isn't great. Probably the battery and range, then.

If I had to look at the Atto's whale belly dash every day, and those stupid strings? No thanks, I have guitars.

      • +2

Checking the bad stuff about the e 2008 makes me think, after this discount it no longer has bad stuff.

      • atto 3 handles better than the model Y standard range IMO. having said that the model Y base is known for its rigid chassis and stiff handling

        • I never mentioned model Y, but hey chalk up a win for the Atto3. It beats a bloated, electrified wheelie-bin in one thing.

          • @Speckled Jim: Interesting description for the worlds best selling car

            • @choofa: COVID was widespread too, but I didn't want it.

Build quality counts for a lot. The quality you live with long after the price is forgotten.

              • -2

@Speckled Jim: Ah that old chestnut
Teslas are very well built these days. Especially from China where we get ours

                • -1

@choofa: lol yeah, must be why they're doing so well right now? They're an insurance nightmare too, but that's a surprise for another day.
An ownership experience rich in so much excitement and uncertainty might appeal to younger people, not my cohort.

      • The ride is a little soft and handling is only problematic at very high speeds on windy bumpy roads. Otherwise it’s actually very good, especially around town

  • +1

Ok price for this car, but it doesn't include a granny charger. If you want to buy one from Peugeot $1325.

    • Get a Tesla UMC for $550 or plenty of options under $300

      • Any recommendations for eBay options under $300?

      • That was the point. parts are overpriced.

        • Not my point. I would like a recommendation for an eBay charger under $300.

          • @barryquinn: EBay looks to be a minefield of ev chargers that don’t meet Australian standards.
Amazon seems to be safer… although who knows what dodgy labelling has been slapped on these things

          • @barryquinn: Recommendation doesn't exist because people who have bought a cheap charger don't have houses or cars left after their chargers caught fire.

Seriously buy a quality charger. You will use it for potentially 6-30hrs non stop each week or multiple times a week running at 2.4kw 10amp and completely unattended.
This is literally using as much power at boiling a kettle non stop for hours upon hours.

            • @10101010101: Thanks. Any recommendation for a quality charger? That meets Australian standards?

              • @barryquinn: Can't say as I haven't researched. My OEM one came with my Hyundai.
Check out whatever brands the various manufacturers recommend or supply

              • +1

@barryquinn: I purchased the gen 1 of this charger, gen 2 was released a couple of months after my purchase:

                https://inchargex.com.au/collections/flexswap-by-inchargex

It been good enough for me, you can probably find cheaper wall box chargers with more smart functions, maybe even higher charge rate but my car only does 7kw max , also i wanted something that was mobile and can be taken any where, also i dont own the house i live in so no point installing something for the next renter to enjoy lol, licensed electrician installed a 5 pin 3phase socket and switch (mates rates) didn't require much as it was literally next to wall box so no long wiring needed.

Great charger from my experience, business owner is very good to deal with and responds quickly,

              • @barryquinn: So I’ve been looking for a trickle charge, slow wall socket one, and after checking out bdriod site, I contacted the rep for inchargex and he said he will put a 10% site wide sale next Monday. So I plan on buying one then, I haven’t got my car yet and I expect it fully charged so it should come just in time.

100kw motor。。。。。。。gas car has more than that

    • The petrol version of this car is 96kw,

      • The gas car would therefore be approx 86kw

      • which accelerates like a mobility scooter

        • I have an electric mobility scooter. I'm sure that's not true. It also has a top speed of 10kph so not as quick either!

  • My old pig had so much electrical gremlins, I'd hate to rely on pug to have electricals working for decades

    • Stellantis — same platform used for several cars (Jeep, Alfa etc)

      • Lucky that Jeep and Alfa have such a good reputation for reliability..

        • Agreed on the historical context, but this is entirely new. Corporate structure, vehicle development and now EVs.
The Jeep Avenger EV — ridiculously overpriced compared to this E2008 — won several Car of the Year awards in 2023.

          • +2

@Speckled Jim: Plenty of cars win "Car of the Year" awards and are complete duds.

            • VW Golf (2009) another dog and 2010 (Polo)
            • Volvo XC40 and XC aren't exemplars of reliability either
