    Check the supported bands before buying as this isn't a global model from what I read. Could be wrong.

    Thanks for the disclaimers OP. Not sure how much I wanted a Chinese Android phone that barely worked with Google Playstore but I guess there might be people who wanted to test out the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

        That's how I installed Google Play on my vivo x100 pro. The only thing that's a pain to get working is android auto, but magisk (root-don't know for this device) can enable android auto on the Vivo x100 pro. Anyway, there's a good chance those who complain that google play doesn't work expect the app to work out of the box and mistakenly report the app as not working. Since people said "app xyz" won't work on my phone and most of those apps work when you tinker.

And I bought the phone for $800 with upgraded storage and ram. The same phone costs $1600+ over here and are all grey imports… I just couldn't resist the deal.

      8s Gen 3 is weaker than 8 Gen 3.
      All cores are downclocked by a little, the Cache is 33% smaller and the GPU has half the shaders (but higher frequency).

      It's a fine CPU for the money but it's not the same chip.

      That's the great thing about Android and a gamblers spirit, if you're willing to turning your phone into a paperweight, you can go to XDA and turn your piece of chinese "crap" into a half price Pixel with arguably better specs. Certainly better specs in terms of dollars vs performance

    That's a lot of smartphone for ~$530. I've used Vivo phones before, primarily during my stint in India (Vivo used to be a pretty big smartphone brand there, right before military tensions between India and China led to them being stood down as the main sponsor of IPL). Now they operate under their spinoff brand IQOO. Vivo itself is a descendant of BBK electronics, along with OnePlus, Oppo and Realme.

    The only thing that'd put me off from this deal is the non-availability (as far as can tell) of custom rom support. There are too many issues with the native Origin OS rom it ships with (no Android Auto, poor Chrome compatibility, loads of bloatware).

    If you use optus, beware, this doesnt support n40. n40 is used as a capacity 5G band on indoor systems, and deployed in metro areas. If you use telstra, this doesn't support n7, which is being used as a Standalone deployment currently

      Same. I'm currently using a Chinese ROM Vivo X100 Pro and can install 3rd party launchers perfectly fine without a Vivo account.

    Umm…comparing it to S24+ is a bit rich. Perhaps it would make a good expensive Android phone for gaming but as an everyday phone, you'd be pretty annoyed to find out why one of your banking apps or Android Auto or some other important apps aren't available to use or the picture you just took looked like crap. Suddenly you wished you had bought the Samsung Galaxy even at full price.

    Does it support VoLTE for Australian carriers?
    Just cause a phone has VoLTE support doesn't mean it will actually work on our carriers.

    Vivo software is absolutely atrocious IMO, at least from when I played with an Android 14 device from Indonesia. Never in my years have I seen such extreme levels of bloat. It's really in your face with the ads and popups. It took me maybe 3 hours to debloat a similar device and whilst it was definitely usable afterwards, it still kinda sucked - there were a bunch of apps I couldn't remove because it would break other things. It's worse than MIUI and ColorOS for sure.

    Vivo X100 Pro user here. Just wanted to let people know that all those Youtube reviews complaining about bloatware/ads on Vivo or any other Chinese phones are greatly overblown. They can all be uninstalled or disabled very easily and the daily experience becomes almost indistinguishable from using any Samsung phone (except the Android Auto not working).

        User installed won't work anymore. The phone needs to have it installed as a system app.
        One solution is to flash the ROM to global if possible which comes with Android Auto pre-installed.

    What about the Redmi Turbo 3 for AUD 484.57. Got a 8s Gen 3 and the rest too. Smaller battery but will have better software, and its rumoured to be the F6 globally, so will probably be able to flash the global rom someday, not 100% sure. And being Xiaomi at least it has a much better chance of getting custom roms. Has all the bands we need according to GSMarena. With a Razer Kishi Ultra or a Gamesir G8, will be an awesome emulation device.

    My cheap chinese phone is no longer going to be supported by Telstra come August due to lack of VoLTE verification. I'm not technically skilled enough to try and figure this kind of stuff on my own, so I guess I'm going Australian retail for the future.
