Melbourne Car Sharing -Flexicar - Annual Fee Waived 100% (Was $70) + $15 credits End 31 Jan 2015

280
OZFRED15

Hi peeps - Flexicar join for free + credit is BACK! $70 annual fee is waived for first year + 1 hr driving credit inclusive - new members only

For all those who don't know what car sharing is - it is a concept that allows you access to 24/7 cars without actually owning one. It's car rental by the hour that is available 24/7 and has cars parked all across Melbourne for you to use. It includes all petrol costs as well and does not have a per km usage for short trips unlike their competitor, GoGet.

EDIT: My initial info was incorrect. New members only get the original $15 credit (one hr credit) and do not get the referral credit as usual. Normally referral gets BOTH members the two hrs credit but because of this promo code - this is not true. What does this mean? It means originally I posted that new members get 3 hours credit with the code and referral. It's only 1 hour credit free, not 3. Sorry to everyone who was expecting 3 hrs credit >.<

I've been a member for years and I like their service and cars better than Goget. They are generally in better condition and much cleaner, and they do not force you to drive with lights on.

Annual Fee Waived: Use the code above ' OZFRED15 ' during sign up.
* Note: annual fee still applies from year 2. No exit fees.
* Clarified: For month to month usage - there is a no commitment plan "Intro" - pay only if use, none otherwise.

Credits: Total of 1 Hr driving credit included in code only

My cost comparison between Goget & Flexicar: Link Longer trips are generally cheaper with Goget if you are on the cheaper Flexicar plans.

Referral:
Edited: clarified the promo code does not provide referral credits to the referee but only the referee. Sorry this was genuinely unintentional.

Use the name 'Shen Yun'- but if you got your own mates already with Flexicar, put their names in!

Anything Else:
Where to put the code & referral?: Screenshot Link

Important - If you sign up closer to month end - you'll likely get the credits until END Feb (instead of end Jan if you sign up now). This is still true.

Happy to answer any questions from a member's point of view :)

Referral Links

Referral: random (20)

$30 credit for both the referrer and referee. Referrer also gets an extra $30 credit after the referee completes his/her first booking.

Pretty important to point out this is only Melbourne…

      Thanks - Updated the title.

SYD has hertz 24/7 which has better rates :( they are not interchangeable sadly.

  • Thanks for the post. First time looking into this. Understand it'd be a logistical nightmare for Flexicar, but it'd be good if you could do one-way trips like the Melbourne Bike Share scheme.

    • Really wished they had this too :(

      • A friend who lives in Vancouver says they have a system like this called Car2Go. They have a presence in Canada, the US and Europe. I'm surprised (and disappointed) that something like this hasn't appeared here - maybe it only works in cities of a certain size or layout.

        • Probably with enough demand. But the first company that does this will be a winner.

  • they do not force you to drive with lights on.

    What the?

I'm not kidding. I was pretty pissed - Goget hardcodes their front lights to be on as long as the engine is running and this causes so much problems. Apparently, it reduces risk of accidents.

On a Prius, the screen is fully digital. As with any car, whenever you turn on the lights, all the displays in the car dims - and on a sunny day, the dashboard was completely unreadable.

      Absolutely stupid.

Wow. Well, it must be safer if you are watching the road and not silly things like the dashboard!
Maybe they should take off all the mirrors too - they just get in the way.

  • Joined and referred! Thanks mate :D

    • Thank you! :)

Sorry, the transaction has been unsuccessful. You can try either re-entering your payment details, or call our Member Relations Team on 1300 36 37 80.

I have tried 3 different cards. Anyone having the same issue?

    • Thanks OP, just joined an Intro plan. Could you explain to me Flexicar option vs Car rental option? I am assuming it is better becoz you can get the car 24/7 compared to car rental?

@thecrevis, Just call their customer service. I had the same issue.

Hi ya! The biggest advantage is that the cars are available 24/7 and the idea is that the car is near to you.

The huge advantage of convenience means that:
        * You don't have to go to an office, wait in queues, fill up forms
        * You don't have to refill petrol before returning the car everyday (You only help fill when the tank is below 1/4 petrol - and this duty is shared among all members. People are quite civilised and do follow as I've never gotten a car below 1/4 tank before
        * You can rent by the hour, instead of days

Longer rental - 3 days, 1 week, it is cheaper to go with a normal rental. In fact Flexicar has a limit that you can't book out a car for more than 3 days I think.

This is great when you need a car sometimes but not other times.

ALSO - 11pm - 7pm only counts as ONE hour, unlimited km, fuel included. If you find yourself stranded without public transport back - Flexicar is a cheap option to get home. (though you need to return it back tomorrow morning…)

        • +1

          11pm-7pm = 1hr charge. Now that's a bargain!

        • +2

          @McFly: sorry 7am!!

        • How do you pay for the fuel?

        • +2

@arcticmonkey: There's a fuel card permanently located inside the car - Caltex and… BP I think. I always go Caltex lol.

It works like a normal card payment - swipe, pin, and done.

  • You're going to have so much driving credit haha. Signed up and referred.

  • Signed up and referred.

How long does the driving credit last?

So if you choose Intro there are no ongoing fees from year 2?

    • Thanks. It seems like it will only last till end of Jan (it's at the discretion of Flexicar and if you sign up later nearing the end of this month - it'll be until end Feb) but you can write in to ask them to extend (again at their discretion)

No - the annual fees is separate from the plan - there's a $70 fee from year 2 onwards - you can cancel with no exit fees anytime before then if you find you don't use it much.

Intro just means there's no commitment month to month - if you don't use their cars - there's nothing to pay on a monthly basis.

  • Didn't knew, i does a VEDA credit history check (fair enough) and will appear on your file

  • +1

I have checked with Flexicar, and they said the new member won't get $30 referral bonus, however, if the new member refers to someone else and he/she becomes member, then the referrer will get it.

    • +1

You are right. I genuinely did not notice this until after u pointed it out as normally referrals give both members credit. But now they only give the new members the one hour because of the code.

I need to update the post..

Sorry for the incorrect info =(

      • I joined, but did not check back here and was not aware that the $30 were not honoured.

But it clearly states on the offer "AND you'll both get $30 driving credit for referring a new member!"
