    Hmmm… Interesting…

      What is?

  • Tempted to finally get one. It's not that I watch much TV but I find myself passing out on the couch when I get home from work.

    • I pass out on the dinner table after I have dinner.

Do you work at a brewery?

These things have barely changed price in 2 years. I'm not sure that's competitive anymore.
What can you get, for only twice the price in regards to performance and feature set?
Aren't the full Android TV boxes able to do some pretty decent stuff now?

    • Good questions. New chromecasts due in store any day now. Already available from https://www.kogan.com/au/shop/televisions/chromecast/

      • Was going to say this, price probably lowered, for the new chromecasts coming in.

      • Dang, $59 plus $23 shipping? That seems pretty steep considering the general price of iteration 1.

      • Anyone else have issues with kogan website? Seems very touch sensitive…

Agreed, I have two of these for which I paid $24 & $27 respectively…how they are $10 more two years later with pending release of a new model beggars belief! :/

      • publicly owned companies with shareholders need to increase revenue year on year. google is doing whatever they need to to increase wealth for investors. so sad.

  • Anyone know when are Google going to sell the new model here?

Reportedly hitting JB HI FI shelves on February 18th, along with the Chromecast Audio.

Have the Gen1 Chromecast but sometimes lags with the 2.4ghz network
Cant wait to buy the new one, apparently supports 5ghz so hopefully stutterless plex streaming!

        • $60 though - which to my mind is too much, particularly for the Audio variant.

        • +1

I have the 2nd Gen one and I would not say it is stutter-free, it still depends a lot on the power and range of your wifi network.

I have no problem with 8mbps 1080p, only something like 12mbps or above sometimes still causes issues, especially on 2.4ghz as the 5ghz doesn't reach the living room.

      • My local store has signs up already for both. Can't wait. They said it has a tentative pricing of $69

    I has no TV…

Can I attach this to a computer monitor?

    • +3

      Anything that supports HDMI mate.

      • +1

So let me get this straight…

Chromecast is a dongle that will allow me to use my phone, as like a remote for YouTube?

        • Spot on. Not one utube, but other applications which supports chromecast like netflix, Presto, etc.

        • @Gaggy: YouTube casting is one of the core features

        • @muncan: I believe @Gaggy was trying to say "Not ONLY YouTube"

        • +2

          @Gaggy:

th thanks bro. THANKD BRO TH ANKS

        • @Abaddon: yes. Thanks mate. typo there :)

        • @muncan: I did that from my mobile. Lets move on…

    • Your monitor will need speakers - since the sound is coming out the HDMI.

      • Good point

    • If your just using it on a computer and want to use it for youtube only, you dont need one. Just go to youtube.com/tv and pair it with your phone.

Literally only bought one so that I could stream US netflix, had I done prior research I'd have known that you can't change DNS settings on these… disappointed

    • With some effort you can, requires having a router that will let you block Google's DNS servers.

      • From memory my router wasn't compatible, believe me I tried! In any case, in any case it's a PITA when an old Apple/Android TV box can handle it with ease

    • you can block the google DNS address quite easily in most routers . There are lots of articles about the process, here is one I found https://www.reddit.com/r/Chromecast/comments/3f3e3d/how_to_g…

  • Can I use on Sony Android TV (x8500c)?

I want to use an android app (JadooGO - for Hindi / Urdu channels ) for live streaming tv but that is not available on GooglePlay on Sony TV ( it is, however, available for android mobile / tablet / desktop ). Can I use Chromecast to run parallel google play on sony android tv? I tried to install APK but after installation on sony tv, input fields for login / username are not responding.

    • +1

You can also cast a chrome tab from a pc to your Chromecast. So you could log in to jadoogo in Chrome and cast it from there rather than using an app.

      • @Abaddon: Thanks for a kind response. Much appreciated. That's I am already kind of doing by running jadoogo app on iPad screen mirroring to Sony Android tv. Just realised my misunderstanding about chromecast ( thought I can install apps on it so no need to use mob /tab).

You should check specifics but I believe most "Android TVs" actually have Chromecast built in.

  • Officeworks lowered price to $37 so can't price-beat.

  • The Chromecast gets hot though even with usage in a short time

  • I had one. it would freeze often and would require a reset and it needs a smart phone to work.. Rather have a smart mouse/keyboard and browse using that..

  • Can Chromecast be used without internet Wifi (such as hotel room, on which most of the time requires login and "AP isolation")?
