Why is it? My wife was looking for a 2 in one recently and despite having alot of pc building knowledge I just can't see the justification in these? Their horrendously overpriced, the keyboard is around $200 and almost makes Apple accessories seem well priced… I get why MS have priced them like this (competing with Apple) but for me they are awful.
I'm not knocking, more just curious why people see these as exceptional value.
I don't think anyone thinks they're 'exceptional value' TBH but they do tick more boxes for more people than any other product available.
I don't know about value, but they are incredible devices.
I have one for work and for someone that travels a lot, I wouldn't use anything else now. They are so portable and can do everything a 'proper' notebook can - it runs full Windows.I guess the comparison would be to an Ultrabook in terms of portability, but being able to use it as a tablet is great on plans etc.
The issue is that people that claim to be 'PC builders' look at the raw specs and say, "I could get that for $XYZ cheaper"; however, you have to look at it as a complete package, which nothing else comes close.
Fair enough. I get the quality (albeit I think the keyboard isnt my thing). Just seems like a lot of other affordable options out there.
@scuderiarmani: Loads of 'affordable' options yes but sometimes that's not important. Surface Pros are bang-on perfect for professionals versus every other solution available. I know of some companies who've replaced offices full of PCs and Notebooks with Surface Pros and the staff are wrapped! Silly thing is that a Surface Pro and dock isn't much more outlay than a 'business grade' PC but the Employer gets far more out of the investment thanks to the extra flexibility & productivity etc. Also good for staff morale and for those companies who need to 'show off' a little bit because as wanky as that sounds it can make a difference.
I use a Surface Pro 3 daily for work and I would recommend it in mobile environment (lot's of meetings).
It's a pretty zippy machine and scales presentations really well.
The only downside is the bloody price, you are correct it is ridiculously overpriced but it's size, weight and functionality is great for the purpose I'm using it for.
Value isn't the word. You don't use value with iPhone's either?

Agreed. I've helped many workmates, friends and family members buy SP3s over the last couple of years and they couldn't be happier. There was an issue with the absolute top-end SP3 model overheating and BSOD'ing or shutting down unexpectedly but MS solved that with an update… probably just throttling the GPU down a bit.
The Surface Pro is THE mobile laptop/tablet to get these days.
Only if you ignore the price. And if money is no object, you have "people" to do it for you. And are on the wrong website.
Beware - the i7 isn't great. It has a hardware flaw where any type of activity will cause it to heat up and have its thermal throttling kick in.
I own this model, an update hasn't fixed this issue.

Too expensive for last generation model. Also i7 is kind of waste on 2 in 1. I5 is enough
I bought an i5 model from eBay US for under $1k used and it's great. I'd recommend doing that rather than the i7 as the price v performance just isn't there from the reviews/research I did
256gb with those 200gb micro sd and another micro usb stick you can just keep in it is plenty of storage
The Surface Pro is THE mobile laptop/tablet to get these days. Price will continue to go down I suppose, but this is still a little above my expectation for a 1.5 year old model. Still powerful though if you need it.
