Be careful with Shopback for Dell. Screenshot the current offer from Shopback when you make the purchase and date the file. I've made 3 major Dell purchases (>$3k) and all 3 times the received Shopback amount was only 1-2% when it should've been 10-15%. Each time I had to contact Shopback support to get the right amount added to my account. It all worked out in the end but do be mindful and document the purchase. I think the issue is probably with Dell, rather than Shopback themselves.

I've also had to contact Shopback multiple times for their incorrect cashback amount and have had to prove that I wasn't getting the advertised cashback rate. One time I didn't have a proof so I had to let that one go. I am now sticking with Cashrewards only. It's not worth the troubles with Shopback.

    Any bargains?

  • Hmm the new XPS 15 is still showing as full price

    • +1

Gotta use the coupon FRENZY15 at checkout.

      • AH gotcha. That works.

    • Silly question, which is the 'new' one, all of the XPS 15 on the page?
Was thinking this may be alright for about 2k after 15% off and 11% cashback?
      https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/cty/pdp/spd/xps-15-7590-lapt…

      • I tried applying the FRENZY15 coupon and there was a slight increase in price to $2635.14. If the website prices already includes the 15% off coupon, then you won't be getting this unit for $2k after cashback.

        • Blast, just tried it too.
Looking at the original Dell page it seemed some had it applied and some didn't.
Oh well, maybe didn't need it :P

the new XPS have apple pricing

    • +1

I've always been a windows person but you can't argue with the quality. Apple stuff seems to hold it's value pretty well and last.
The XPS and X1 Carbon are getting there build wise, all pretty nice now. Depends what OS you prefer I suppose.
XPS 15 would be good for some light gaming but mostly general use and Cad etc. Or I could buy a mates well spec'd macbook pro 15 cheap.

    • +2

Yes, there is no way I would pay Apple price for a Dell. They have garbage quality control in my experience with 3 dell xps models.

Still apple is not perfect. I had a high end Macbook Pro 2018 which would randomly shut down straight out of the box. Similarly a new Ipad mini 4 had a LCD with terirble gamma calibration which was a very odd issues (was replaced in store though). This pales in comparison to Dell issues though (Multiple LCD panel failures, LCD panel white spots, jamming touchpads, peeling soft coating, cracked casing, motherboard died, random waking in bag, BSOD). Dell's were the most fault prone laptops I have ever owned

  • $3654.15 with the 15% discount for the i7, 16gb, touchscreen version.
    + 11% shopback.

    Worth it?

I do a little light gaming here and there.
Anyone know how the battery life on this is?

    • After those "discounts" brings it down to the same price as a similar spec'ed Macbook Pro 16' from an EDU store at Apple.

Judging from previous reviews on Youtube for the 2019 XPS 15 with 4K OLED, battery life will not be as great as the Macbook Pro 16.

Worth noting the battery size in the 2020 XPS 15 have shrunk from 97wh to ~86wh~ (from Dave Lee's Youtube video where he opens the XPS 15)

Amd 4000 mobile processors are the best bang for buck by a mile at the moment. Intel is basically more expensive, runs hotter and uses far more power.

    • +1

Keep in mind AMD processors means no support for Thunderbolt 3 ports

      • Thunderbolt is a pretty big deal in terms of laptops I reckon

  • The second the XPS range gets Ryzen I will snap buy one of these.

    • Might not happen. Intel and Dell have some dodgy history…

  • So the new XPS 15 16GB/1TB 4k model jumped from $4,599 yesterday to $4,699. Just awesome Dell.

  • Can you get cashback if you use a promocode?

    • +1

      dont think so

    • +1

No. From the rep on the cashback deal page:

Correct, the code won't stack. We've also been requested to drop Dell's cashback rate to 10%, which will go into effect from 3pm AEST as a heads up to everyone who might be buying soon.

      • Do you know if that applies to products that don't use the Frenzy code but has this applied? -> Dell.com Exclusive: Incl. 15% Off

  • Just be prepared to wait. I'm still waiting for my laptop to arrive from Dell that I ordered on April 4. I emailed them and they said I should "hopefully" have it by the end of May.

  • XPS 13 or HP Spectre x360?

The HP seems to have much lower price for similar specs.

    • +1

I got a spectre (i7, 16gb, 1tb, LTE) from the previous deal for $1800 and am in the process of returning it. Very good value but mine had coil whine and all models have poor build quality - wobbly buttons and just general feel. Absolutely tiny trackpad and 16:9 screen makes me almost claustrophobic while using it. I also had a lot of issues with connecting it to an external monitor which 3 softward hard reinstalls did not fix. The XPS totally blows the 360 out of the water in terms of the almost zero bezels as opposed to the fat chin of the 360, much much larger and better trackpad and 16:10 aspect ratio.

Also uni is at home for the rest of the year so I don't even need a laptop anymore. Putting the money into a desktop build and maybe look at laptops next year when new ones are out.

  • Does anybody know when the XPS 17 will pop up on their website? (if at all) I'd rather that than the 15.

    • I believe there are more than a few of us eagerly awaiting. I've read 'starting from AUD$3,399' for the 17, whereas the quoted XPS 15 price in the same article was AUD$3,699. Fingers crossed the $3,399 is for the RTX 2060 version of the XPS 17, otherwise I'm just going to go for the Surface Book 3 15.

      • I am going to assume you are joking. The $3.399 will be the lowest model. The RTX2060 version of the XPS 17 is going to be at minimum $6k. Absolute minimum.

  • +1

Look OK till you check out the difference with better spec models. Add 8Gb of RAM and pay $5-600, want a 500Gb SSD rather than 256Gb and pay $500 extra (before discount). Crazy prices for anything like a decent all round spec. I think Dell have been overcome with their own hype when the new Macbook Pro looks like better value.

  • No deals here, better off to wait for another one of their eBay 20%off.

  • +1

Does anyone know if the ebay Dell 20% off deals show the original price on the receipt or the -20% price.

  • Are Dell known for price jacking before a sale? I'm looking at the Inspiron 14 7490 but its starting price has gone up $200 from two months ago, when there was a previous deal posted on OzB.
