  • Not the same, but nearly half price

    • Yeah was planning on a full NAS with new red drives but after seeing the 14TB ones today, pulled the trigger on those instead. I know down the track when it crashes and I lose 14TB I'll wish I got the NAS with RAID 5, but hey, live in the moment :-)

  • +1

The 6TB WD Reds use SMR. Not a fan, rather shuck a WD Elements 10/12/14TB drive or go WD Red Plus or Red Pro.

  • had to search SMR but interesting. So the Pro's don't use this?

  • Which would be recommended as a reliable, quiet, NAS drive? I currently have a 6TB Red (from the comments here, I'm assuming it's SMR, which doesn't sound ideal), but it has a fairly audible hum, and a noisy spin down - my original 4TB was whisper quiet.

Had similar with a shucked 10TB White drive that was generally noisy.
