Damn thats a good price. Already have enough Ubiquiti stuff in the house. Paid $250 about 6 months ago.

Hold on to your pennies… (if you can).
their wifi 6 gear will be out next year reportedly

    • Hope so! The speed improvement adds up to an extra 100mbig on a modern iPhone.

The U6-LR-US is already available for preorder in the US for mid Jan shipment.

      https://store.ui.com/collections/unifi-network-access-points…

Decent chance we’ll be able to get units Q1 next year. The US pricing is the same as the current Nano model, so that’s probably a decent ballpark as to what you’ll pay for this model when we do get it (about $289 retail, before any sales). There’s also the cheaper Lite available.

Right now the U6-LR looks like the replacement for the NanoHD/Pro, although the naming conventions a bit confusing. The specs are particularly close to the Nano in regards to the MIMO support.

If you can I’d wait. It’s not just the speed that’s an improvement, but range and wall penetration should be better over the Pro based on what I’ve read so far.

One loss in the new model is there isn’t a secondary Ethernet port on the AP.

      • While the new WiFi 6 APs seem better performing than AC APs but given the cost difference (especially when you factor in additional cost of POE injector), I think UAP-AC-Pro has plenty horsepower for many people if not most.

        • I have a Pro and it’s a good unit. That said, the price I listed is pre-sales price for the NanoHD. Not too hard to get another 10-15% off those so the price saving probably won’t be too massive. Wireless1 and others will have them as part of store wide sales every few months, with a NanoHD currently listed there at $241. Not including the PoE injector will be a pain for those that need it.

I’d also think the Lite might be an alternative for the price conscious…and there’s the 6 Lite coming which will probably be the same price as this unit, it not cheaper.

It’s a good unit, I just think right now the timing isn’t great and it’s stuck between a few other units price wise in a relatively tight $100 range. If you do need it today then it’ll definitely do the job.

          • @Smigit: I’ve got the NanoHD… so only one ethernet port right now.
I power both of them off the POE switch so I guess for me I can just drop it in… excited to use it for the Quest 2 with virtual desktop.

Thanks for all the news everyone.

Gonna jump on this. Was initially eyeing either the UDM or UAP-NanoHD.
But decided to stay with my Mikrotik router and increase the existing UAPs to blanket the house.

Was thinking/holding out for WiFi 6, but only 1 device in my house has WiFi 6.
My internet line is only 250Mbps (HFC, unlikely to be able to go beyond that for the forseeable future) and my home internal wired LAN is only Gigabit.
The new WiFi6 Ubiquiti/Unifi devices would definitely be more expensive in the beginning, and Ubiquiti needs to get its act together in terms of software/bugs.

  • I've got one, but for some reason the only Encryption types that show up in the UniFi Network App are "Open" and "WPA2 Only" which my iPhone says is weak security. It works just fine, but how the hell do I get it to give me the option of WPA2 (AES) or WPA3? It's only giving me WPA/WPA2 (TKIP).

    • Which version of Unifi controller are you running?

      • I’m not running a controller. Just did the setup with the app.

The other method seemed a lot more complicated but I’m guessing that’s why my security options are limited.

  • I was looking at getting 3 of these to install as part of a house extension. Any suggestion what router or controller to get? Will be around 5 wired devices (TVs and the like) and 3 access points to connect to hfc nbn.

    Thanks

    • Edgerouter X or USG should do the job ( i prefer edgerouter X) for routing and you can run the controller on a spare computer thats always on or get a raspberry pi.

      • USG would need a seperate switch as it has only 1 port out. That said, if you’re getting 3x APs maybe consider an 8 port POE switch to avoid needing 3x injectors.

        • It comes with POE injectors but if anyone wanna keep it neat then make sure you get it 802.11 af POE gigabit switch. USG is just a router so definitely need a switch with or without POE.

          • @OldSchoolHarry: Also the house has to be really biiiig to require three of these.

            • @OldSchoolHarry: Thanks everyone. In terms of number, the house has a master on top floor and rest of rooms on lower floor so was thinking one for top floor and 2 for downstairs but maybe it is overkill? It is not a massive house

              • @Lindsayr: You might be able to get away with just one. These have solid range. Just place it on upper floor somewhere central.

                • @OldSchoolHarry: Thanks, will have a think about it. Not sure I want to try and get away with 1 but maybe 2 would work ok. Ill check it out. Thanks

  • Is this need to plug to the RJ-45?
Which one I can add to existing network?
I already have Asus Router RT-AC68U.

    • +1

Yep you need to plug it in with an Ethernet cable

    • You can use your existing router. It comes with a little box (PoE injector) that you connect near the modem end that adds power to the Ethernet line which then powers the access point.

  • Hrmmm. Now deciding between UAP-AC-PRO or UAP-NanoHD. The NanoHD is down to $217.
Have heard that 2.4Ghz is not great and although the 5GHz is great, range is not fantastic (for the NanoHD).

  • I am seeing $258.12 with discount applied

    • Discount has expired probably?
