    crypto is a scam.

    • +7

A lot of coins and tokens are scams masquerading as tech, so you so need to be careful and treat it as a hobby/collecting rather than a tangible investment like real estate etc.

      • +4

The problem is a lot of people are treating crypto as an investment.

        Buy
        HODL
        Buy Lambo

Real life doesn't work that way for 99%+ of investors, but everyone thinks they'll be the 1%.

Geez I'm sick of the ABC having all those sob stories about how people have lost their life savings/first home deposit/retirement to crypto. Fool.amd their money.

The grift that keeps on grifting.

Hopefully Musk lost a few billion, but no doubt he bailed early and made some coin.

      • Ahaha. Thanks for that. Only thing is this is pretty large-scale swindling!

Crypto itself is not a scam, some cryptos are though. It's a high risk investment regardless of scam or not though. Don't buy without looking into it.

    • +2

No it is a scam. It creates nothing, it's got no backing except religious fervor.

Oh wait it has help wreck the environment, provide method for scammers/racketeers/those trading illicit material a method to easily trade.

At least precious metals have a finite source (on earth) and actually have a physical use.

      Blockchain OTOH is different.

      • +1

Have you ever thought about the fact that money is also a scam that came about the exact same way? The only difference is the people and materials being used to back it.

You clearly need to understand the origins of money ;)

Some crypto btw is backed by real world objects just like money is required to be.

VISA consumes more energy to complete a transaction than bitcoin lightning network… and this is excluding all the layer 2 eth transactions out there.

US dollars have backing? US dollars are FIAT money, no backing

They are meant to be a currency, but when was the last time you bought anything real with it?

    • Ha - appreciate the honesty, which is sadly lacking in Cryptoland.

  • +13

It is NOT an investment. Similar to a Pyramid Scheme. The first ones in may make money, but the last ones out certainly won't.
If gambling deals are banned on OzB., then so should these.

    • Sounds like youre talking about the sharemarket bro

  • The ShopBack app says it’s for existing customers too but the code doesn’t seem to work. Anyone else find the same?

  • Sheesh… People offer free money and "it's a scam". At worst, you could make a few hundred doing these referrals.

  • You can also get $40 if you refer a friend on luno
