Hi Rep, wasn't this posted for free earlier this month?

Appears to be normal price & just using Ozbargain for free advertising seeing it's getting posted so often.

    • +5

Yep. I know we're not meant to downvote for "not a deal" but…

Hi @WatchNerd, it looks like the deal posted earlier this month was for 1 week only and has now expired. One Big Switch is a consumer group-buying network operating in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the UK and Texas. Globally, One Big Switch has over 1.5 million members to date. The current offer we have available to our members is an Exclusive offer to get 50% off¹ your legally valid Will using the code OneBigSwitch50.

  • Queenslanders can already get a free will made with The Public Trustee.
Not sure about other states but worth looking into if you don't have a complex estate.

    • yeah but you need to see how much they will charge for executing the will.

      • They don't need to be the executor, they can be but there's no requirement for it.
My partner's father had one done with the public trustee this year with my partner as the executor and it's worked fine. No issues with probate or anything.

Rep you never responded to @jong's comment -

Their representative on here says that it'll be reviewed by a lawyer, but the page doesn't mention that bit (just that "their team" who aren't lawyers will look at it).

    Worse, it says:

©2022 Safe Will Pty Ltd, Level 7, 28 Foveaux Street, Surry Hills NSW 2010. Safewill is an online service providing streamlined forms and information. Safewill is not a law firm or a substitute for a lawyer’s advice about complex estate planning issues.

Plus, their About page(safewill.com) doesn't seem to mention any lawyers; all of which suggests that the rep advertising on here is lying about the product.

It's not made better when the instructions say "Lastly, print your Will off, sign it and store it in a safe place" - nothing about getting it witnessed so it'll hold up in court, or how to make copies without negating previous versions - you can't just sign a new copy.

Having just gone through the process of writing a will with actual lawyers the whole thing smells dodgy.

OP is never going to respond to comments. Their comment count since joining is 0

Wrong rep. This is the onebignotanozbargaindeal rep not the safewill rep who Jong asked the question of who is propertypig.

      • I'm sure the correct rep will see it eventually. Anyway I pasted it for the community to see as well.

    • +1

That sounds pretty dodgy to me

    • That's correct @MorriJ, I am representative of One Big Switch and not Safewill. One Big Switch uses the People Power of over a million members around the world to unlock special offers and discounts. Please refer to the offer page for FAQs or get in touch with Safewill via a live chat or give them a call during Business Hours, or otherwise leave them a message and Safewill will respond to you as soon as they are back online.

"One Big Switch earns a commission for each member that takes up the offer."

I wonder why op posted this.

    • likely OP is from OBS, not from the will provider

Update your Will whenever you want for free during the next 12 months, and then pay only $15 per year to make unlimited Will changes thereafter.

are you signing people up for reoccuring payments just for the "right" to make edits to their own will?

Every Will is reviewed by Safewill’s Sydney-based team of Will experts.

"Will experts" and Lawyers are 2 different things, i'm sure there's some overlap on the venn diagram but the language used in this offer doesn't really boost the confidence levels.

FYI if you're gonna go the DIY route (which is basically what this is - it's just someone double checking some fields to make sure you filled them out correctly) then there's dozens of other options around

    https://www.choice.com.au/money/financial-planning-and-inves…

otherwise if you actually have things you want to leave to other people once you pass on… go have a chat to your local lawyer about it. it's not really something you want to get wrong.

my wife does them for about $440 + GST if you want a ballpark figure of what a what an actual real lawyer does them for if it helps anyone comparing or getting quotes. (this is a per-person rate for a "regular" will - if you've got a wildly complicated life then these values typically change a little)
