Can you cancel right away and you still get the two months?

    • +3

No, it's per month, so if you cancel you get 1-month at $2.

    • Why not use for two months and cancel right before the third month.. get some use out of it.

      • +1

Scared of forgetting to cancel. Though if I make a calendar event that should remind me.

        • +3

          Ofc, put something in calendar

          • @G-rig: Android can now schedule alarms for a date. Alarms are great for this, not as easy to fob off as a calendar notification.

            • @danntor: Whatever works

            • @danntor:

Android can now schedule alarms for a date.

Wait, what? Android's native (?) calendar app couldn't do it until now?

I'm not an Android person, so I'm curious. In Apple ecosystem you can't share calendar events, for one, which would be as silly.

    Hayu: $1.99/Month

    About $2 too expensive.

    • +6

Clearly a few 'real housewives' fans not happy about that joke ;)

    • Agreed. They should be paying us to watch Hayu

      • +2

Hayu is great for watching true crime so I don’t make the same mistakes the serial killers did….

        • Didn’t realise that kind of content was on there. I thought it was all Carcrashian style reality

        • You'll make new ones and be featured in a later season.

  • +7

There's about 2 months worth of good content on Paramount+

I got a cheap yearly sub about 6 months ago and all I use it for now is the new season of Ink Masters.

    • +2

Agreed, it's really not worth it. Cancelled after 1.5 months.

Netflix and Binge remain my staple. Disney and Prime get turned on and off depending on what's on.

    • +9

I got on that apple price error last year, apart from one quick browse on first day, used it precisely zero times.

  • I am assuming that you need to keep prime membership also valid for the two months when you're getting it for 2$

    • Subscription inside subscription…. What are they leading us to?

      • Yeah the native app probably better and higher quality streams.

  • got it last time, can still get the promo again?

    • +1

      Darn! My BritBox 2-month trial @ $2 ends on 6/12. Otherwise, I would renew @ $2/month.

    • I just had a look through these, signed up for Paramount, MGM looked interesting for a couple of bucks a month but then everything says leaving MGM on 30 NOV so not sure what is going on there.

      • didn't amazon buy the mgm library hence the bond collection?

        • No idea, it wouldn't surprise me though. Maybe everything is moving to Prime Video.

  • +20

Prime Video has improved so much lately. So many things I want to watch on there now. Its almost replaced Netflix for me. Thats a major difference from last year.

    • +10

Tbh it has always been a strong offering. Especially when it's a bonus if you (like me) were already using Amazon.

I am actually surprised with Stan these days - I feel they have an underrated catalogue. Netflix comes in 3rd for me.

      • Apple? I mean i got 2 shows and a movie out today on apple

        • +3

I got 6 months of apple for free, had a look through the catalogue once and never bothered ;s nothing looks too great

          • +1

@lulzenberg: Oh wow. Ok well ive seen like 10 good shows this year on apple. Even two great movies in best beer run & ray and raymond
U interested in comedy, action, drama?

            • @Wawasjohn: yeah, comedy and action probably more so than drama - if you've got any recommendations

              • +2

@lulzenberg: Well best beer run is great for both of those.
Ted lasso probably the best comedy on there but i also enjoyed shrink next door with will ferrell and paul rudd.
For action i really enjoyed See.

Mosquito coast is great drama/suspense too.

                • @Wawasjohn: Cheers! I did give See a go but got bored 5 or so episodes in, at least I think I did hah. I should probably give it a longer run.

                  • +1

@lulzenberg: Yeah s1 is rough in places. Focus too much on the evil queen. S2 and s3 set a better balance for sure. Faster pace and such. S2 finale was unlucky not to win technical achievement award for its action set pieces.

About ep5 to ep6 was when it did drag. But that is about when it picks up again

          • @lulzenberg: I got one year free for an Apple iPhone 12 pro max, but hardly ever used it, except to browse.
Have heard that it does have some good exclusives.
Have a 3 month free with iPhone 13, so will activate it closer to Christmas.

Very happy with Netflix and Amazon Prime (for my wife primarily). Have let Optus Sports expire, and have a shared membership for Kayo.
No UEFA Champions league though, so may look at Stan.
Hardly get time to watch though, as extremely busy at work. Sigh…

      • +2

Stan increased their prices, its now $21 :(.

        • +2

Which is a no from me. Amazon and apple much better value

    • What are your recommendations?
I had Paramount+ briefly and watched Dexter New Blood, which I liked.
On standard Prime I liked The Expanse, Battlestar Galactica Bosch and Undone.
Netflix seems to have a larger range of Asian content which my wife loves.

      • +2

i don't think ill re up on par+ nothing has 5.1 audio or at least i cant figure out how to get it working on shield or apple tv 4k, watch any of these shows on amazon, upload, the terminal list, reacher, jack ryan, outer range, reginald the vampire, hana, the boys, so much good stuff on there

        • I was told Par doesnt have 5.1, in this day and age thats shocking.

          • @lonewolf: it was in their faq about 5.1 but i think its only for america, the rest of only have 2 ears to listen to it i suppose, i wouldn't be surprised if it was only 720p aswell

      • I watched Dexter and Halo. Cancelled after as no more content for my liking.

      • +1

The whole range of 007 is now on Prime. That in itself is massive. Then there's Lord of the Rings series. The Office, 2 and a half men, Reacher and The Peripheral. They've also got a couple of very recent Liam Neeson movies. Last year there was barely anything that I wanted to watch off Prime so this is a massive step up for Amazon.

I do agree regarding the Asian content on Netflix. All of Us Are Dead, Squid Game and Rise of Phoenixes were seriously great.

    • +4

but their search option is still bad

    • Prime also has a decent VR app on the Quest if you want to watch on the big screen.

    • Hardly any 4k and Atmos content.

      • While apple is all in atmos

        • Hard to believe everything is (Atmos sound), but sounds good. Not in the apple ecosystem myself but apparently not too many shows off interest. Still good to have a variety of streamers

          • @G-rig: Everything in the last few years that ive watched has been in atmos on apple. So the shows always sound a million bucks. The sound track in acapulco is always kicking.

I cant recommend apple plus enough. Ive seen more shows on that lately then amazon and Netflix combined.

            • @Wawasjohn: That's good to know mate.
So you can use it without an apple device? Would look at the free trial if can load the app on Google tv, pretty sure you can.

It's one area prime falls down, not that high quality as it's more of a bonus that comes with prime (shipping) membership, or at least that's how I treat it.

              • @G-rig: Yeah. I got my google tv set up to it. I think some of the pilots of some shows are watchable without a subscription too.
Yeah amazons value is the free delivery and sales. Some of its shows are high quality tho. In lord of the rings, expanse, reacher etc. but they do have a lot of b grade movies. Hallmark rejects lol

            • +1

@Wawasjohn: Theres atmos containers and then Atmos codecs / Atmos sound (thats how people generally view it these days). Atmos container can be digital sound inserted into the container (dolby digital 5.1 or whatever) and not what people used to think Atmos was (7.1.2 etc etc) So just because Apple uses Atmos containers, it doesnt mean its all actual Atmos sound if you know what i mean. But yes apple generally has good HDR and Sound, shame they dont have much content and out of the content they have , alot of their shows have got extreme woke stuff being thrown in.

              • @lonewolf: Of ocurse if u want to be nerdy about it. Either way apple is doing a better job at it then everyone else. As they should be with the money they can throw at things.
Most people dont have a full atmos set up anyway. We just have a lg soundbar. Sounds pretty good.

They got plenty of content, quality content. I was watching echo this morning. Looks interesting so far. Mosquito coast s2 has been decent. Watched spirted last week its a great xmas movie. See had 3 amazing seasons. Acuplco is a riot. And thats just last few mths.
And yes a lot of it can be woke but what isnt these days. Atleast its shows arent too graphic.

                • @Wawasjohn: They are 2 Totally different things. One is just a container that can have anything packaged into it (doesnt mean quality is any better or worse than 5.1 sound from any other streaming site as it depends what was in the container and we have no way of telling. The other is a form of surround sound indicating usually several channels as well as height channels etc. Saying that, I believe the bitrate used does seem better than some of the other streaming sites as the video and audio definitely does seem better.

Echo definitely looks interesting, it seems to have only come up recently. See is decent, Mosquito Coast is also good. I also enjoyed Tehran, Black Bird, Slow horses (think thats what its called) was decent. Suspicion started off interesting but got a bit silly. Ted Lasso and Mythic Quest started off great but a hell of a lot of Woke stuff in there that kept getting in the way and turned me off it.

Trying was a good show and then a really insulting comment made by the wife about "toxic Masculinity" and not wanting to have a boy because of it..I couldnt believe that comment. Having close friends and families who have struggled with getting pregnant or having kids / adoption etc, Who would be happy with any child boy or girl, I cant believe that show had a comment like that. I never watched a single minute after that comment.

For All Mankind, good interesting concepts and plot lines but so much Woke stuff that gets shoved in your face to the point where i sometimes stop for months and have to come back to it. Some good movies on there too, Greyhound, Cha Cha real smooth.

But overall, not enough content to last full time subscription. Probably just a couple of months per year will be enough.

Disney also has good HDR and Audio as well as Imax Enhanced for systems that support it. I think both Disney and Apple try to push forward AV quality as a differing item from other older streaming sites. Perhaps aiming at a specific market.

                  • +1

@lonewolf: Woah mate lot of text. Lol. Might need to add me on discord or something so we can talk more. Ill try to do a quick response here tho.

Yeah but like i said if u want to get super nerdy about the atmos. But for me it sounds great
Yeah i got those 3 on my list to watch
I love ted lasso, i dont remember it being that woke. Like some jokes maybe but its anti woke with a lot of its jokes. Like cobra kai.

I gave up with trying after the first ep but thats whacked.
For all mankind does frustrate me. Its awesome one second then super soapy woke nonsense the next. S3 seemed to have slightly a better balance.

Oh for sure no streaming service is needed all year round. Ive just found a lot more to watch lately on apple. Im actually yet to pay for apple tv. From my ipad, ps5 and foxtel purchase giving me access until next year sometime.
Its more then half the price of Netflix anyway.
Id recommended checking out shrink next door and five days at memorial.

Yeah disney imax enhance is awesome. But atmos is lacking in a lot. But good to see them pushing forward in that

                    • @Wawasjohn: Yeah i just started watching 5 days, Already into ep 4, its good, I actually didnt realise it was this bad when it was on the news. Like I remember the News talking about it alot, but when you watch the show you sort of understand how big a disaster it was in the US especially because i guess it happened in a location with a lot of poverty as well. Shrink next door is on my list too.

Yeah I havent paid for Apple TV+ either, I actually would contemplate it if it wasnt for all the Woke stuff, I find % wise they seemed to have a lot more of it considering how manyshows they have and also alot of it is extreme shoving down the throat .

For All Mankind, if it wasnt for the woke stuff, I think i would have loved it, it has a lot of good interesting aspects to it but sadly i struggle with it at times, I havent watched s3 yet so i will give it another try.

                  • @lonewolf: Yes that's what I was saying. It would be true Atmos (ie 9.4.1 or whatever) just bundled up in a container so they all appear to be. Was hard to believe every show would be atmos as it simply isn't, especially older/normal shows (and it hasn't been around that long).

Just means you don't know that is and what isn't if it displays everything as atmos, but hopefully the display/light etc would dictate when the true codec is in use.

Apple seems like good quality overall. Just like Disney and Netflix. I feel the same way about the content on Apple. 3 month free trial would be enough kind of thing (That's if you can even watch on non Apple devices as I don't have any or an account). The whole point was that Amazon prime should put a lot more effort into 4K and atmos content, a lot of it is pretty lousy.

                    • +1

@G-rig: Sadly the display / light wont tell you, It will all be reported as Atmos as the container used is Atmos so we have no way of telling really which is a shame,

I am surprisd you find Prime doesnt have much 4k content, I find a lot of the prime made products are mainly 4k / HDR and Atmos. Expanse, Jack Reacher, Jack Ryan and the new movies. The older shows wont be .

Interestingly Netflix The Punisher was 4k HDR but when Disney took the rights back, on Disney its just HD. I dont get why.

                      • @lonewolf: Yeah amazon is fine with its 4k content just light on atmos.

  • Does this include the A-League?

    • It appears so, I assume it is only live though as I can't see any replays just place holders saying upcoming matches.

      • "mid-season break from 18 November 2022 to 8 December 2022 due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup"
(because of ALL the clubs that have been impacted by the WC…?)

  • +14

Getting tired of all these streaming services splitting off and extra charges. Making the pirate life look better.

    • Yeah someone needs to bundle all the crap up and have one or two subs Only. Still cheap via turkey etc, wouldn't waste my time hunting to download something plus all the banners and potential malware.

  • AMC+ had terrible video quality the last time I tried it, looked like a 720p image with really distracting aliasing.

Paramount has some pretty solid content and picture quality though, might be time for another trial.

  • Already have prime and watch some stuff mainly series, but most are waiting till feb next year for next series to air. Finding way too much Indian / Bollywood stuff and Asian junk that isn't well acted or subtitled, perhaps if they were all dubbed in English it may be bearable. Anyone name anything on MGM that may be ok?

  • +1

Sheeesh so am I unable to get the 2$ paramount price because I have a 9$ paramount subscription lasting untill Dec 13th :(

    • +1

I'm in the same boat due to using the 7 day trial yesterday 🥲

      • The deal runs until about 28 Nov, so you should be able to sign up again for the deal after your 7 day trial.

  • I had free prime on subhub which just expire few days ago and Optus will charge me for the next month.

I just unsubscribed from subhub. Any one know what will happen if I sign up for AMC+ offer now? Do I get another 30days free on prime?

  • Sportsline are offering first month for 49c (~AU$0.73) - They are probably still offering 6 months free when you try to cancel. So you can get 7 months for 73c. See previous deal for details. VPN required to watch. I still have 18 months deal ongoing for 79c.

Also some of the Paramount originals are available for free on TVNZ+ - VPN required to watch.

  • +7

after signing up and browsing the content, already feel like that was $1.99 not well spent.

  • Not bad just to be able to watch the Israeli show Line in the Sand on Paramount+.

Been out for quite awhile but not available for download from what I can see. Apart from a release with German audio.

  • I had a look at Great Courses a while ago. A lot of them are based on you having the guidebook and/or workbook for the particular course which you won't have.

  • Is this a one or the other type vibe or can we jump on multiple?

  • 👑Tulsa

  • Can any of them get English Premier League? Or is that still locked with Optus..

    • +1

      Optus only.

  • I’ve let my Paramount+ lapse after my $5.99 for 12 months deal ended. I really only use it for South Park and A-League so 2 months for $2 is a great bargain!

  • +1

    Excellent!
I subscribed to Paramount+ to watch the latest season of SEAL Team and to Britbox to watch the latest season of Line of Duty.

  • $2 for shudder is awesome. Time to binge all low grade horror movies :)

  • +3

I initially added Shudder and Paramount+ then decided to add AMC+ and got a nice email from amazon :)

"We've noticed that you have signed up to two channel subscriptions Shudder and AMC+. Both subscriptions provide the same benefits, so we have consolidated your payments by canceling Shudder channel with Prime Video Channels and are issuing a refund."

    • AMC+ is supposed to include both Shudder and Acorn, so I don't know why they are even available seperately.

      • Perhaps they are going to differ in prices once the specials is over.

  • Any good shows on Paramount+ that aren't on Netflix, prime, Stan, HBO or Disney?

    • Star Trek.
