Amazon title appears to be incorrect.

Based on reviews, it's the watch in the product image (Casio A158WA-1DF)

    • -4

Which sells for $17.99 on ebay

      • +7

        Fake ones on eBay, yes.

    • Thanks Richard, updated post title to reflect correct product name.

      • Updated to remove 'Black Resin Band'.

  • how come this has the same prod number?
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/312507266114?

  • Looks like product name is wrong on the Amazon product page. They have some incorrect details such as band colour etc - but confirmed to be the Casio A158WA-1DF as identified by RichardL (according to comments & reviews on the product page). I've ordered one myself.

    • I would rather the 168 with the better backlight hey

      • Yeah that's a good choice - I think it's on sale on Amazon but not sure how cheap it is compared to previous sale.

I just wanted a simple one to wear on a daily basis.

        • Yea they are the ones I wear at night/sleep as they are so comfortable. Hence the backlight ;-) Picked it up a few months back from amazon for $32. Currently $61 on Amazon which is not great at all.

        • +1

These are never $109. It's misleading to mention that in the title.

Camel shows the avarage is $48.68 via Amazon.

  • probably yes the cheapest right now but not too far from others i just looked on ebay there are few at between 45-50
    i will hold

  • +3

Note - This has a resin case & lens. As do most Casio watches around this price.

    The Skmei 1123 is US$5.86 + GST. I prefer the Skmei 1628 US$8.16 + GST.

    • How do you get it to be $5.86?

      • Oh my mistake I wasn't logged in, it's US$8.68 + GST. Wow that's more than the dual time 1628!!!

    • How does the Skmei 1123 compare in quality to OPs watch?

        • +1

Based on that review I'd go with the Casio, personally. It isn't like the Casio is expensive to begin with

          • +2

@beltdrive: Exactly, there is no reason to buy a copy of a cheap watch unless you are extremely stingey.

      • The nightlight is way better. The A158WA-1DF uses one of those cheap sidelights that looks terrible. I refuse to use those.

    • Now I have BF2042 and a watch, thanks.

  • +5

It should be around that price anyway.

    • +1

Yep it wasn't that long ago these were posted closer to $25.00 + del.

      • +1

Calling someone out for posting BS RRP on here is a can of worm you don't want to open.

I've given up on it and you should to.. you'll just be wasting your time.

        • I did it more for the members that aren't aware because that's just a crazy stupid RRP for a basic quartz plastic watch.

          • +1

@WatchNerd: Totally appreciated it as i do the same but the arguments back and forth…fml.

Your name carries more weight than mine thought so hopefully these newbies will listen to you. 😀

… you still made me poor btw. 😢

            • +2

@PuppieWayne: Ha sorry about that, but to be fair I would argue most of my watch posts you could get your money back by selling if they are still like new.

  • +1

I have one of these from an ebay seller back in Nov 2014 and it's still running on the original battery, probs my favourite looking vintage/retro digital watch

    Edit:
Checked my ebay purchase email and it was $20.36 delivered, lets chalk it up to inflation. Also it was listed as model A158WA-1D, not sure what the diff might be if any

  • +5

The best thing about these is you can put a computer in them :) https://www.sensorwatch.net/

Note that it won't work for the A168… or fake watches, of which ebay has a few.

    I prefer the A164 over the A158 myself: https://www.amazon.co.jp/Casio-Collection-Standard-Digital-N…

(if you want to buy a few watches, it's cheaper buying them from Japan, but the postage will get you on a single one)

    • Wow, never knew about these, what a great idea.

  • if this was 1984 I would have got this.

  • +1

that discounted price is its normal price now, its never sold that at $100

  • +2

Good grief - is this what these watches actually cost nowadays? I've been buying them for years (they're great) and $20-30 has been the normal price online for ages. Last time I was in Japan (2018) you could buy them for 1010 yen ($11 AUD).

They're a great watch, but I'm not sure they're good value at $39. Who in their right mind would ever pay $109 for one of these?

  • Mine arrived today - it's silver (as pictured)

    • Update: It seems the backlight isn't working so great so will sort out a return/replacement

      • Some models are better and improved as well, not sure if that's normal but I'd watch a few YouTube vids. Some aren't great (but could be faulty if you think so).

        • when I press the button only the left side of the display lights up. I reckon it's faulty as I can't see anything in the dark like this. I'm getting a replacement sent out so hopefully it's better

          • @dubfonik: Cool hopefully the replacement fixes the problem but the light is apparently 'pathetic' on this model

Review here I found, retro classic.
A$25 6y ago, but what hasn't gone up.
            https://youtu.be/KDClyKpz6M4

          • @dubfonik: This is typical. It won't get better. You can mod it: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1448973768/backlight-spreade…

            (haven't tried)

But if you don't have a particular liking for this watch, best to just search for one with an "electroluminescent" backlight.

            • +1

@wryun: Like I said. A quick search confirms the light is rubbish. Just spend slightly more and don't buy such cheap crap. People just hype up stuff but pays to do your research.

              • +2

@G-rig: Hence why I linked the Skmei 1628 above. If you're going to go cheap at least don't get ripped off.

It has a better backlight as well.

                • +1

@WatchNerd: yes seems like a better buy for cheap.
no point paying $40 for an 80s watch that wasn't even that great but i can understand the nostalgia.
