Been waiting for a 64GB DDR4 kit to be decently below 200AUD, to upgrade an older rig. This seems good enough and has a welcome minimalist look.

Black Friday soon so maybe better deals then, maybe not.

Given it's Amazon Germany via Amazon AU the delivery will be slow. Shipping looks to be free with or without prime.

Crucial Pro 64GB

  • DDR4
  • 3200MT/s (XMP 2.0)
  • UDIMM
  • CL 22 (22-22-22)
  • Doesn't fart rainbows

Inb4 HODL comments but RAM prices rlly haven't fallen much in recent months so imo likely bottomed out. Plus we been waiting for long enough.

  • I have crucial ballistix 2x32gb 3200 cl16 that farts rainbows. If I added this, would I see any issues? I'm currently hitting the limit of 64gb with normal development workloads (multiple emulators/containers/etc…), so looking to upgrade.

Best to stick to the same kit to avoid issues

If you are not planning to overvolt and up your RAM timings etc., there will be no negative impact. I think it is bananas to believe that two kits won't work together just fine. You won't notice any meaningful downturn in performance that isn't overwhelmingly covered by the additional 64gb.

      • It is possible to run into issues. Motherboards should default to the lowest compatible speeds which could be as low as 2133Mhz so you'd need to manually set the settings which could be a lot of trial and error. Certain setups can also be finnicky when it comes to using 4 sticks of dual rank memory.

    • shouldnt be a problem but have a look to see if your motherboad/cpu supports 128gb at speeds you are looking to run

  • Looking for some 64gb 3600 rgb, hopefully something good this week.

Crucial Pro = Micron OEM DIMM's wrapped with a heatsink

At 3200Mhz, CL18 is already slow and CL22 is diabolical

If your mobo can run 4x DIMM's, 2x sets of these for $170 pickup are a much better choice

Also, these 3 expired deals from April/May are still available and all sub $200:

    • Wait a few days for BF

    • I'm no expert, outside of gaming/fps does cl impact many productivity tasks? The extent of my gaming is Chromes Dino jump, so was happy to sacrifice a few fps to be able to keep another 100 hundred chrome tabs and a few more pdf books open.

…outside of gaming/fps does cl impact many productivity tasks?

For DDR4, you will be impacted more if you run an AMD CPU that is non-X3D, use memory intensive productivity programs (scientific, simulation, calc) or use the integrated GPU within the CPU

If you are upgrading just to park programs so that the swapfile is not hammered, CL22 is fine

        • Thank you for the advice - very reassuring. My PC is quite old now but built it with the hope of getting back into gaming/software dev/AI but never had the time (Intel i7-9700k (OC @4.9Ghz), RTX 2080, Z390 mobo), current RAM is 16GB 3200 cl16, but this often bottlenecks due to chrome tabs/open programs (I am one of those terrible people who only restarts my PC once every 3-4months when windows update stops letting me delay the updates).

Any advice you could offer regarding whether or not I should undo the OC on the CPU? Would it extend the life much, or doesn't really matter since I rarely push it hard?

Any advice you could offer regarding whether or not I should undo the OC on the CPU?

Assuming you have had the CPU since launch (~5 years) and have had no stability issues, leave as is

    • At 3200 cl22, it means the ram doesn’t have xmp profile, it’s running at jedec profile.

    • Could you repeat in english? 😂

      • It means that the out of the box settings are conservative (comparatively slow). This brand (Crucial) has a reptation for overclocking so can probably run faster if setting higher speed profiles manually in the motherboard menu.

  • CL22 is pretty slow?
    How much are the CL15/CL16?

  • The rams are so cheap! I have been considering upgrading to the new rysen platform (ddr5) but now also have the impulse to increase the ram of my current ddr4 itx build from 32gb to this 64gb…

  • I mistakenly bought ddr5 for my pc which is ddr4, i assume there is no way fir it work other than upgrade change the motherboard?

    • Correct. Try to refund and purchase DDR4 would be my bet; then do your research next time before buying something you don't understand.

    • Compatibility would need to be with motherboard + CPU
I'd check what the return/exchange options are as that may be the easiest fix.
From memory its intel 12th Gen onwards and Ryzen 7000series onwards that support DDR5

  • Been monitoring these for about a month now as I need dimms for a 128gb micro build. The beauty of these is their height compared to non heat sink versions. These will fit, but better spec ones won't fit because they're too tall in my case.

A few weeks back UK had them for ~$178 with 12% off if you got two.

Being so close to BF I might just risk it. Considering my 2 x 2TB Seagate SSDs which only just shipped from UK. That was another deal here on OzB :-)

  • these good for gaming?
