Aussie Broadband - Issues with Speed

Hey everyone, been a long serving ABB customer and it’s been great.

Today however I’ve noticed issues. Web browser is slow or some pages don’t load on both iPhone and desktop, tried to log on my PS5 to play some Fortnite and it won’t load, same with Xbox shop loading really slow. This is both Wi-Fi for iPhone and the rest is Ethernet.

I do a speed test and it’s normal good speeds. I’ve reset router / modem etc but still the same. I’m on 100/20 plan

Anyone know what’s going on? I’m located on the Gold Coast 4221

  • I’ve been with Aussie since 2017 with no issues until the last couple of months. Been very slow and drops out few times a week. I’m thinking of switching now

ABB Customer Support is available 8am - midnight (AEDT) every day. You can raise a ticket via MyAussie, email, live chat or call. If you feel it's urgent then call, otherwise they'll reach out to assist you.

    • Just spoke to a tech on live chat who wasn’t very helpful. Said there is nothing wrong with my connection and to put a point on my modem and reset it

  • Try a different wifi router…

Try changing your DNS settings to Google or Cloudflare and see if there's a difference.

Also what router are you using? I had to use Google's DNS when using a Telstra Modem but switched to a Nighthawk and pages loaded instantly with the ISP's DNS.

    • A Telstra modem with ABB

      • Change DNS settings on your desktop and see if there's a difference - if so then change them on the router.

Yer I have no idea what I’m doing sorry

          • @Twisty: New forum post? - How do I change DNS settings?

Otherwise, you could just Google it. It’s a fairly simple process.

I’ve done this once before when my ISP had DNS server issues.

              @ihfree: Change it to 8.8.8.8

              I’m using a Telstra Technicolor TG799vac

@Twisty: SnowDragon's link literally has step by step instructions…

  • Defiantly try a different DNS and go from here.

  • My suggestion would be, given you aren't sure how to change the DNS, and I don't mean that in a nasty way, plenty of people don't (or don't want to), is to get a router directly supplied from Aussie Broadband, that way they can fully support you.
It's highly likely to be the router or DNS & or other configurations in your Telstra-supplied router.

  • Definitely sounds like a DNS issue or some other restrictions set up on your router. Did you factory reset it before getting AussieBB

Just changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and it seems touch wood all working again

Thanks everyone that took their time out to help me

    Appreciate it

  • Tried this here and it didn't help. Seems that local sites (Australia) are slow but international ones are OK. Weird, anyway I only posted to share this link which I am playing with ATM. Looks like a useful tool.

    • What router are you using?

      • Asus RT-AC68U

I mainly noticed the speed watching youtubes on the Nvidia Shield so I dropped the ST app setting to 2K (instead of 4K) and that stopped the buffering issues.

Currently getting 31/4 but it drops down bad on the weekends.

        • FTTN? HFC?

          • @Bato: FW

@EightImmortals: That is the nature of fixed wireless, unfortunately. What colour is the signal light on your NTD?

Call ABB and ask if they can see any signal/tower issues on the NBN portal.
