  • Seems they are throwing in a new battery as well. Why does this look like a really good deal? What am I missing?

It's a Toshiba refurb. Having worked at Toshiba refurbing notebooks it's hit and miss

Seems OK, it says onboard RAM so you may be stuck with 8GB

You savages bought them all while I was reading a review. Turns out I should have bought the bloody thing.

No pen, deal breaker for me

  • Computer newbmie here sorry.

I bought one of these off FB marketplace a while ago. Windows was already set up but didnt have a password set up. Now its not allowing me to log in (asking for password or USB key which neither I have). Whats my options? I just cant get into Windows to initiate the clean reinstall. Happy to wipe clean if needed, just want it working again.

    Cheers all.

    • Wipe clean and start again

    • If the disk (HDD/SSD) is not encrypted and it's a local account you can bypass the password by using a Win 10 boot USB drive and renaming/replacing the accessibility tool (utilman.exe) with the cmd.exe

      Good luck ;-)

Thank you, that did the trick! In process of moving my photos and then doing a fresh reinstall.

Definitely should not use any computer that's already setup, could be absolutely anything on there. Key logger, sketchy certificates.
      Definitely wipe and reinstall Windows.

      • Windoze behaves similarly to malware to begin with….

  • I purchase this from the last deal : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/833181
I highly recommend it. It's been working very well without any issues. Battery is holding up very well, but I haven't measured how long it lasts.
    Absolute bargain at this price.

  • Why are all secondhand 8th Gen Intels around $300 to $400… and anything 9th Gen up shoot up to double the price, but then stays within $100 or so of each generation?

Did something happen between 8th and 9th Gen to be so significant?

    • +1

8th gens have truly hit the corporate dump, i.e schools, businesses and governments getting rid of them in droves, while higher up gens are still slowly being phased out, supply and demand mostly.

technically 8th and 9th gens are quite similar, its not until you get to 10th gen and after that Intel gets the tock

      • Okay. That makes sense. I'm using a second hand ThinkPad. 8th gen. 8GB or RAM sucks though. But it's enough for basic things.

8 9 10 are using the same internal gpu, very sad intel

there area couple more in stock as of 7/5/24

    • thanks grabbed one

  • So I got the LAST one and it's delivered today.

The left hinge of the laptop is like a treasure trove of mystery brown goo— Took forever to scrub some of it off, and now I'm questioning life choices. It remains unclear what the substance is and whether it poses any safety risks Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4
The battery is so worn out, it can only hold a charge up to 68% of its original capacity. Pic 5 (I'm not too sure about this, what do you guys think?)
