  • Price match at Jb and take out their replacement warranty. Trust the process, it becomes an investment rather than an expense

    • Explain how…

The warranty at this price point is a full replacement. After 2-3 years a rechargeable battery deteriorates. You can claim warranty on battery life. PCall them up and they will give you a reference number & you advise your closest store. You go in, they will test and give you a gift card for the original purchase (minus ~$35 for the warranty). there is no expectation for you to get the same model meaning you don’t have to spend the full amount. Because JB GCs have no expiry, you keep the balance (if any) for any future purchase.

@OZBMate8911: Facts. It’s the long game. Making your money go further so you can afford a (now) $2 potato cake the next time you visit the lunch shop

You reckon JB not ought to know of such loophole (and positively saying - consumer abuse of such) to the detriment of their business?

          • @YoursTruly: Staff know and are open about the warranty situation. It’s also a much easier system than to deal with manufacturers under their own warranty. I assume selling warranties count toward staff targets.

            • @ExtraSalt: Thanks for the response

Do you reckon this warranty method you describe can also apply to iPhone, Apple Watches, controllers batteries that get degraded in 2-3 years as well?

Under their FAQ - Seems warranty can only be purchase in-store as well….

              • @YoursTruly: I think there’s a value (~$1000) before a service under warranty is the cheaper option for them.though they will tell you at time of purchase if it’s a replacement or repair under warranty. An iPhone would probably fall under repair. Previously they gave me a booklet but they gave me a digital file when I changed from my Jabra Elite 85t to the AirPods Pro 2.

        • 5D chess. Thanks!

    • I dont think JB Hi-Fi price match Costco. Let us know if you manage to get that done. :)

      • Got the verbal confirmation over the phone, going in the store tomorrow, have been asked to bring my costco membership card (I do have membership with Costco)
Will let you know how it goes.

        • Technically you can get into Costco with a gift card so use that as a fall-back which also cancels out the membership cost factor

          • @ExtraSalt: They haven't matched Costco for me in the past, but that was via the online chat.

You may get lucky in the store but it's at the salespersons discretion I think

I saw this and I went to The Good Guys. They price matched Costco. They just checked the website and wanted to see my membership card as proof. I also had a $30 voucher through SMS (which was targeted). All up it was $299.99.
I could have gone further and used my rewards program for an extra 5% but didn't plan ahead and my little guy was super restless so I thought i'd already got a price I was willing to pay. :)

    • hi! I tried today, but the extended guarantee is lik 75$
      Any suggestions?

      • thats a weird number…we need a JB rep to comment on this. the Extended Warranty should be 15% off the total value unless they have changed it. I've got a record of it somewhere let me check and get back to you.

EDIT: 15% confirmed. Just ask them whats changed. Say previously a friend purchased for 15% of value.
29/12/22 i price matched to MWave for $359, Replacement care was $53.85

        • I called and they said 15% only for items over 1k.
          Anything under 1k is 20% unfortunately :(

          • @nomekop: hmm interesting. I guess they worked out the flaw. tbh i'd probably get it again with my next purchase. $54 over 3-4 years isn't too bad.

    • what a warped understanding of the word investment

  • I purchased them yesterday from jb as I got refound for the previous one. They offered me warranty for $75 I regret so they sold it to me for $29

Also I got 2 options when I got reply from jb's warranty. Coupon worth oryginal price which was $399 or replacement. I preferred coupon so I got my airpods, warranty and I still had couple $$'s on the coupon so I purchased jlab go airpop earbuds which are great replacement for only $40 if somebody is working as a trade.

    • Can you please explain more in detail how did you reduce the warranty from 75 to 29?

  • +2

AirPods 2nd gen are also reduced to $154.99 at Costco

  • Tried to get a price beat today at Officeworks and they flatly refused, stating that they don’t match Costco because it’s a membership and all the other stores are doing the wrong thing.

    • Try 1300OFFICE instead, they can be more reasonable on occasion and you don't have to waste a trip to another store.

    • thats not true at all. I just price-matched Costco last week for my partners mothers phone. Your local store manager is just on one. I think i have price-matched Costco 3-4 times over the past few years at 3 different stores with no issue.
