$575 net profit for the ANZ Black Rewards
$350 net profit for the ANZ Platinum Rewards (this card)

    • +1

Dumb question, but what do you mean?

Where is the cost and profit coming from???

      • +17

        cost = fees
profit = (estimated $ value of rewards points) minus fees

        • +2

          Thanks for info!

      • -2

        I second this…

        Cost: 375
Vouchers: 800. (As advertised on card website)
        Net: 425

        Have i missed something?

        • You get a $150 rebate

          • +1

@Drakesy: Not sure why you got a down vote, you're correct. Thanks mate, i missed that

    • -2

Black has a much higher minimum credit limit ($15K from memory) and would be impossible to get for a lot of churners on mid to lower incomes.

      • +8

I know plenty of people approved for the black card on 70k income!

        • +1

I got denied and I earn nearly twice as much

          • @crackman: Did you have other credit limit and debt (what was net income like?)?

            • +5

@KaitoKid1412: not sure about @crackman, but likewise make about double that income and that have reasonable debts. ANZ consistently refuses my CC applications (applied 3 times over 18months) whilst I've churned with about 3 other providers and haven't had any issues (all whilst having a HL with ANZ). My last attempt, applied in my name for a Black and was refuted, then applied for the lower Platinum for mum & dad (about a third of my loan size, also with ANZ, and combined income about 20% more than me) and was still rejected.

Either ANZ's procedures are trash, or they have a target range of customers that they want to provide credit (i.e. not super low earner, as not responsible lending, but not customers who have very strong repayment histories, thus no/little $$$ for them)

              • +2

@JDMcarfan: what are you putting for expenses?

but not customers who have very strong repayment histories, thus no/little $$$ for them

                this is not true.

              • @JDMcarfan: This is pretty much on the nose with my experience. HL with them, rejected twice over the period a year, yet have successfully churned other banks.

They also seem to be the strictest when assessing your documents.

              • @JDMcarfan: Thanks for the reply. ANZ has been okay for me, they just needed to clarify a few things when after I submitted but that was pretty painless. I only tried platinum rather than black, as I didn't want to risk rejection without knowing an approximate minimum income required.

Amex is the one where I've tried twice and got rejected both times, I churn maybe around 3 or 4 cards a year, for a few years. not that excessive I think. I actually want an amex as a long term card though

              • +1

@JDMcarfan: I will say this, I think many of the credit assessors at ANZ are poorly trained. I own a business, own my house outright and have an investment unit with a very manageable mortgage and excellent rent. I also have an excellent credit score. When I applied for a $2K increase on my $6K credit limit, sent them all relevant docs, they kept calling me for clarification until I just gave up. My accountant told me they could not understand the difference between financial statements prepared for accounting purposes and that prepared for Taxation purposes.

          • +6

@crackman: Their applications team are a bunch of clowns.

          • -2

@crackman: U earn 130k and are on OzBargain at 4pm WTF
what do you do for a living?

            • +4

@Johnrap: Lots of people on the top bracket and can ve here at 4pm tbh.

    • +1

thats the profit if you go for the worst value redemption which is gift cards

best value is converting to frequent flyer points and buying premium cabin reward seats

      • So which is better if converting to velocity points?

        • +1

Conversation rates are the same, they are all ANZ rewards points

Not to be mistaken with amex style which has different points types with different conversation rates for different cards

    • Thanks. Applied for the Black Rewards card and was approved. Card arrived today.

Damn, I just signed up about a month ago to a variation of this deal which was something along thee lines of $300 cashback for $1200 spend in first 60 days. Same card I’m pretty sure. I wonder if I can sign up to the ANZ rewards black card as well or if I don’t qualify since I signed up to the platinum.

    • +2

The ANZ Platinum and ANZ Platinum Rewards are two different schemes (different cards), you can take out both.

      • there are essentially three different types of ANZ credit card which are all independant when it comes to promotions

frequent flyer / rewards / regular platinum

  • Is it difficult to get approval for this card? For example, getting approved for an Amex Charge Card was very straightforward—they didn't require any pay slips and I was approved instantly. However, when I applied for a promotional card from NAB, I was declined. I'm hesitant to keep applying and risk further rejections, as this could negatively impact my credit score due to the number of inquiries on my credit file.

    • +2

In my experience NAB/Citibank are the worst. Straight up reject me.
Westpac, BOM, ANZ, AMEX never had an issue with.

      • +5

In my experience NAB was almost as easy as AMEX.
ANZ was the worst I've had.

        • +5

Be prepared for rejection from Amex if you’re churner.

          • @nightelves: Churner here, no issues with amex. The experience will vary.

            • +1

@Heybargain: You’re one of the luck ones. Look through the past Amex post and you’ll see all the rejection myself included.

              • +1

@nightelves: Agree I got rejected for the first time by Amex recently

      • +1

        I think it just depends.

I've never had issues with NAB/Citi

StGeorge has always been a drawn out process from me, asking for proof of every little detail.

Going through it right now in fact - applied for StG one day, NAB the next day; I already have the NAB card, but StG is still asking for letters and statements.

        • -1

I've applied for close to 30 cards in the past 4 years, got rejected for the first time by St George early this week. Pretty sure my income is high enough to afford having another card with a $6k limit but they rejected me on the basis that I wouldn't have enough surplus to afford this card. Called them and changed a few things, even asked if it would make a difference if I were to cancel another credit card with $6k limit too, to which they said no. Still pretty down given it was my first rejection.

            • @MrThing: Thank you for sharing, I don't deal with rejections very well.

          • +1

            @firestint: 30 cards in 4 years???

            Whoa

            • @andresampras: I got six cards approved, and one rejection from amex, in the last two months.
I need to spend a lot on furniture so as soon as my home loan was settled, I started applying for new cards.
I finished the minimum spend on the sixth card and currently I plan to wait a bit before applying for the next one, haha.

          • @firestint: Same with me.

StG is the only one rejected me while had no problem with other "difficult" banks like ANZ or Citibank.

      • +1

Been accepted by several card providers except AMEX. Have to wonder what the various criteria are

        • Because you’re a churner.

          • @nightelves: i'm a churner, no issues with AMEX to date

            • @andresampras: Do you let them choose your credit limit by any chance?

              • @KaitoKid1412: Yes I do. I figure that gives me a higher chance of being approved than manually choosing the minimum.

And with regular churning, it's only a temporary credit limit - however high it is

      • eugh citibank are absolutely puss to deal with

  • +1

    What's 100,000 points actually "worth"?

    • +5

If you click the link, they've included some options under the section 'What could 100,000 ANZ Reward Points get you?'.

    • +1

      posted above

    • Velocity points 2:1
      SIA Krisflyer 3:1
      Cathay Asia Miles 3:1

      $440 in gift cards
      $400 in cash back

    • +2

      I usually transfer to Velocity

      100,000 ANZ = 50,000 Velocity
      1 Velocity = $0.013

      -> 100,000 ANZ =~$650

      -$95 FEE

      Total Profit: $555.00

If there is 15%-20% bonus from Velocity. Extra another 15-20% on top.

      • +1
        • 100,000 ANZ =~$650

It's actually only $445 in cashback, not sure where you're getting the valuation from.

        • +2

They’re evaluating the points based on Velocity being sold for 1.3c/pt in Ozbargain classified. Hence the $650.

  • +4

Add eligibility for bonus points please:
"Ensure if applying for an offer, you don’t currently hold and haven’t opened or closed an ANZ Rewards Black, ANZ Rewards Platinum, ANZ Rewards Travel Adventure or an ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 12 months and meet all other offer eligibility criteria."

    • Hold a non reward platinum tried call anz for change to the reward but rejected .

      • +1

Just take out the other card, they're independent schemes.

  • +1

Is it worth closing other CC before applying?

    • +1

Usually helps yes, but depends on how much your combined credit limits, incomes and expenses are. Hard to provide a blanket yes/no.

  • +1

When does this offer end? Have to balance it with the Velocity Flyer that ends on May 15th

    • If offer from ANZ, nobody knows. They never specify the end date.

  • Just started a new job, need to wait 3 months to start the churn lifestyle again :)

  • Pretty sure this is the case, but confirming that ANZ Frequent Flyer cards are not included in the 12 month waiting period clause to receive bonus sign up points, right?

  • Is there a time frame to apply for this?

    • ASAP

  • Would a recent ANZ Frequent Flyer Black exclude you from this offer? Its not a 'Rewards' card.

    • +2

The ANZ Qantas FF cards and Rewards cards have separate exclusions so you can apply for this with no issue. I have gone through around 3 of each Qantas FF and Rewards in the past 3-4 years and have never had an issue getting the bonus points.

  • Westpac version (90k points) is free for previous card holders (> 12months ago), and savings account holders..and those who know how to tweak the URL to include the current customer promo code.

In summary, these cards should be free (will be if we don't bite on dud deals).
    .

    • what is this tweaking of URL you speak of? mind DMing?

      • Basically the sign up URL for non members is different than the members. But the only difference was the promo letters on the end.
Someone here signed in, retrieved and posted the members link. So all you needed to do was click the non members link, then change the end part to match.
I was never a member, but got the card for free.

  • +1

I have set a reminder to close my ANZ rewards black soon. Too expensive…
This is a good deal, but seems like I am not eligible.

  • does online charges (like paying bill, purchasing online stuff from amazon etc) consider spend? or does spend only limited to physical payment at a store/shop?

sorry i hardly apply any Credit Card so might be a dumb question.

    • Yep paying bills and normal online transactions count ( usually not paying ATO Bills )

    • bpay is usually not counted

      • It was with NAB up until a month or so ago but I think if you have the option to pay your bill via paypal it still counts. I think paying direct with CC would count but you'd have a surcharge?

        edit

I'm thinking about rewards points, but the same should apply. I've always met my spend limit paying for bills

    • Not govy spends, they don't count.
      Ie. Council rates, rego, ATO.

You need to buy prepaid gift cards, then use them to pay such spends.

      • Has this changed? Last time I had one with ANZ and Westpac (several years ago now) I was successful in meeting the spend criteria on car registration

  • Masters please advise - I am to apply for home loan in next month, is it sensible to go for this deal?

    • +3

lol no. Save yourself the headache.

    • +1

Having more credit cards (or even applying for more credit cards) can impact your credit rating. Which in extreme cases may impact which lenders will talk to you.

More directly, a bank will take credit card limits into account when they calculate how much you can borrow. It doesn't matter if you owe $0 on the credit card, they will calculate 'how much would it cost the borrower per month IF they maxed out all their credit cards'.

Borrowing capacity will depend on your circumstances, lender, mortgage broker etc, but VERY GENERAL FIGURES:

      Bank will

      1) Assume that you COULD max out your credit card, even if you don't
      2) Assume minimum repayment would be ~2.5% per month (of your limit)
      3) Reduce what they lend you based on what your max credit card repayment would be
      3a) $10K limit would be $250/month repayment = $3,000 a year.
3b) It's not dollar for dollar, there is a multiplier. For every extra dollar your repayments would be, that might reduce your borrowing capacity by about 10-15x that number

Bottom line: For every dollar you have of credit card limit, I would assume ABOUT $4 of reduced loan size.

Notes: these are very general figures and will depend heavily on your personal circumstances. If you don't need to borrow anywhere near your 'max', an extra credit might not make any difference.

    • No. I just went through with a home loan and all lenders asked if I have a credit card.

    • Apply for cc after your home loan. Having a cc reduces your borrowing capacity more than the credit limit I believe

  • ANZ always rejects me :(

  • Got rejected for Black in October because of wrong input about my expenses. Applied again and got the card finally in May. Will churn when I get the points 😁

Which bank is the next target 🤭

    • Did you apply instantly after reject? or wait?

      • October to May is about 6 months time

  • "Ensure if applying for an offer, you don’t currently hold and haven’t opened or closed an ANZ Rewards Black…etc"

hmmm… stick the new on the wife's name and then cancel the existing in my name?

  • +1

Is anyone able to advise how long the review process usually takes after applying? I don't get paid into an ANZ account so had to provide PAYG statements.

    • For me it was 3 days n approved in 9 for a Rewards platinum after being rejected for Black and after clarifying some paperwork. For me, ANZ was good and responsive. Even though i didnt get the card i applied for they were able to grant me another one without having to reapply. Westpac told me i had to reapply for a lower credit limit online after being rejected for 1 applied. Geeze…

  • Has anyone used ANZ Reward points for Cathay Pacific and then Qatar?

I have bunch of points from last ANZ Black Rewards deal but not sure if I should cash out for gift cards or get points.

I'm trying to figure out the best card to use for Qatar/Ethiad for Europe flights if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks

@Nkl Velocity points can be booked for both Etihad and Qatar.

  • can these be converted to qantas points?

  • Can someone confirm is rego payments count towards spend?

    • Most likely not.

Most every day purchases are eligible purchases. Certain transactions and other items are not eligible to earn ANZ Rewards Points. Examples of transactions and other items which will not earn ANZ Reward Points are interest charges, fees, cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers, Government Charges (includes but is not limited to payments for goods, services, charges and/or levies made to a local, state or federal government or statutory authorities or related agencies), transactions for gambling or gaming purposes and reversed or refunded transactions will not count towards your qualifying eligible purchases.

‘Government Charge(s)’ includes, but is not limited to, payment for goods, services, charges and/or levies made to a local, state, or federal government or statutory authorities or related agencies (and includes Australian and overseas governments).
