its just not the same unless its the copy from 1998 recorded from FTA TV on VHS and the ending has been taped over with Ghostbusters II

@jv: This isn't a DVD, thus your comment is not relevant.

                • @jv: You still haven't explained how that's relevant to this deal, which is not a DVD?

  • +1

Recently I saw VHS of Titanic for 50 cents, didn't buy though

    • If you didn't buy, what did your $0.50 get you? Genuinely interested as it would be great to know if VHS rental services still exist.

      • +1

It was at Salvos and I bought some other VHS, like old Discovery documentaries which are hard to find. Got some Reader's Digest docos which are still sealed.
I have a VCR which I got for $5 from Vinnies.

      • +6

what did your $0.50 get you?

        "Thats 50 cents man!"

"50 cent alot of money! You save 50 cent here then maybe you go somewhere else and you save another 50 cents. Then you have one dollar! Then you take your dollar and go to the dollar store and buy something else!!"

    • +1

Least the quality and the price matched the film itself

  • +2

35 for this? People have lots of disposable income nowadays.

    • How much are you spending on streaming?

      • Very less. One service at a time, and does not matter. I am watching new stuff all the time.

    • +1

Yeah it's for hobbyists, but still comparable to an entry level nice meal at a resturant, which would be over before you finished watching this the first time, let alone the special features that are included.

That said, if you ever have the chance you should check it out. The remastering on this disc is amazing.

      • Ya probably right. Hobbiyst and better quality. But 35 for such an old movie! I already think twice spending 40+ on a game that has much more playablility and entertainment value.

        • +3

Yeah I getcha. One of the more interesting things about 4ks is that the older movies, the ones that weren't filmed digitally, can often have better detail than newer movies due to use of film (eg. a lot of the Marvel stuff was filmed digitally in 2k, while film can go up to 6k equivalent).

They also remaster the soundtrack on a lot of the releases, so even though it was made 20 years ago, it can look and sound like it was made yesterday. Some of the transfers are ridiculously good, you kinda have to experience it to believe it.

          • @AlanHB: Film can even go past 16K depending on the grain level of the negative. Possibly 32K.

            • +1

@Water Bearer: Interesting - I thought it was generally limited by the film stock rather than grain structure with 70mm IMAX representing the top.

        • what kind of game?

    • You haven't been to a cinema lately, have you?

      • I did, because my friend acted in it. But otherwise you are right. I have a projector system at home and watch at home. Dont find cinemas interesting as TV series on many platforms are already cinema quality and there will be many episodes. Once in a while for very good movies like Avatar I do.

        • Wait so you have a projector, and likely have surround sound, but you're not into 4k discs? You're missing out dude!

          • @AlanHB: Just not interested in watching the same stuff again and again and its only 1080 epson home cinema.

            • @John Doh: Fair enough - yeah you wouldn't take full advantage of 4ks if that's the case.

              • @AlanHB: TBH, most of my TV viewing happens on my desktop using C2 42" as a monitor at 75cms as the main TV is always occupied. Still not bad and 1080P at that distance aint that good to watch.

        • $35 may seem expensive for a movie you may not like, especially because a few years ago you could probably get Titanic as part of a "3 for $20" sale of the equivalent highest quality technology of the time, Bluray, and because most people would consider a streaming service a much better deal.

However, more and more people are realising that streaming services are becoming more expensive, laden with ads and actually have a poorer selection of movies. What's worse is that at the drop of a hat (or at the expiration of licencing contracts) the movie you want to watch can disappear from that service, or be replaced with an alternative version.

Physical 4K DVDs at this price are not necessarily a bad deal - UHD is great quality that won't be superseded any time soon, and owning a physical copy means you won't get caught up in any of the streaming service shenanigans.

    • -1

People really want to appreciate THAT Kate Winslet's scene in 4K.

  • +2

Does anyone wonder if it would have been a different outcome for Jack had he gone for a more matured woman (over 26)?

    • Whats your angle?

      • One possibility: Would have been more considerate and make room for him on the raft
Second possibility: Jack would have pushed her off to save himself for a younger girlfriend LOL

        • -1

Jack would have pushed her off to save himself

          He's still alive today…

He was rescued by a Russian sub.

        • I like the second possibility. The first one probably wouldnt have happen if the raft was too small.

guy: HARAMBE LOOK OUT THE FOR THE BULLET dives in front of bullet

        • RIP Caesar

  • I've a full 16:9 version of this somewhere, I think ripped from TV. It looks good, but not official.

    • The open matte is great. If it had the fidelity of this version it would be the best out there, but the 4K looks outstanding on an OLED.

      • +1

Before this version, the open matte version was the best way to watch, but this transfer is so bloody good that I can forgive the lack of a full frame. Legitimately a 10/10 4K disc in my opinion.

    • There was a full screen blu-ray release in the US.

  • +1

    Getting that sinking feeling..

  • I added some of the movie dialogue to my 1/350 kit build that triggers via an IR remote. Total crackup :D

    • How big is the model? I can’t be bothered googling the real ship etc.

    • So .. the cargo bay lights up and it says "draw me like one of your French girls"

      • How could I have forget that one. Will be adding it!!

  • Long back, I watched Titanic only for the scene where Jack drew Rose's portrait.

  • -1

Mythbusters have concluded that 2 person can fit in on a raft.

    • Maybe Jack decided if he tried to hop on too it would increase her odds of death, which were already pretty high.

  • Anyone know where i can sell blu-ray movies other than scum tree / ebay / FB market place?
got around 100 unopned sitting in boxes and even cash converters dont take them.

    • I wonder why. Random guy comes into store with a box of over 100 unused blurays and says he needs to sell them. So many questions.

      • work used to give them to staff every month.

        • +2

Asking for a friend. Of what genre were these blurays, and what industry is your uh.. work

  • It’s been 83 years…

    • +3

That joke was already done to death 27 years ago

  • +1

Just imagine how Titanic would be made today?

The chance it would involve just two white heterosexuals is zero.

    • +4

I imagine it would be quite difficult to identify the women.

    • -1

We just gotta stop paying for the rubbish they make now and it will come back around… I think we mostly aren't paying for their BS, pretty sure Disney has made a massive loss on like 8/10 of their last movies.

    • -3

Speaking of "just imagine", are you actually getting upset about the culture wars repressing you in your own imagination?

"Oh my God I imagined how woke and non white/hetero a new version of Titanic would be and I need to tell people how awful it is"?

      • +3

        Nice try gaslighting people.

        No one is imagining anything.

Snow white remake, Little mermaid remake just to name a couple of the latest.

If you think it's a great and wonderful thing to race swap existing characters, good for you, but don't pretend it isn't happening.

        • +1

          No one is imagining anything

The first sentence of the comment I was replying to was, literally, "Just imagine how Titanic would be made today".

Clumsy subliterate attempts to make it sounds like I'm championing race swapping

Cheers, stick to whatever you're good at (it's not this)

          • -5

@CrowReally: You lot are so predictable, it's literally the same argument every time.

            Before it happens it's like,

"tHiS iSnT HapPeNiNg, sToP iMaGiNiNg sHiT"

Then after it inevitably happens it like like,

"wHy Do YoU cArE, iTs JuSt a MoViE?!"

At least pick one argument and stay logically consistent.

I for one will be sticking to, not paying for any woke trash remake. Not against POC actors at all, but not interested in this tokenism and I think the market has shown Disney that, big time.

            • @Binchicken22:

Before it happens it's like, "tHiS iSnT HapPeNiNg, sToP iMaGiNiNg sHiT"

              I mean, yes?

              Inevitably

You do not have the ability to predict the future.

Based on your incorrect response to my original comment (duh no one said imagine) I'm not even sure you're able to predict the present or the past.

These are you problems, not society problems.

        • This is gonna blow your mind

Snow White and Little Mermaid are works of fiction, Titanic is based on a real event

          • -1

@beltdrive: Yeah and it's just disrespectful to POC actors and writers.

It's basically saying… "Yeah we think that nothing original you do will actually sell, so we'll shoe horn your character into the place of a white character that has been white for the past 70+ years."

            • @Binchicken22: Holy smokes, you're both actually getting upset about the woke casting of a movie that you are both imagining

              Great effort you two

Stay persecuted by your own free time and imagination

              • -2

@CrowReally: Whoa man, chill, what are you on about?

I couldn't care less other than the fact that I'd never pay to see them, it doesn't effect me in the slightest.

            • @Binchicken22: I’m not a fan of remakes and franchise content (so I don’t watch them), but I don’t really see a problem with there being more diversity

POC in the entertainment business don’t need you to be upset on their behalf.

The truth is that we are seeing more successful movies and shows from people of different backgrounds than ever before. Take a look at Oscars nominees over the last decade for example. There are far more POC and queer nominees than ever
