GL.INET from AliExpress - Is it safe?

Hi,

I can only imagine they are all from the same source etc or is it not trustworth to buy from aliexpress?

Better wait for promo and buy it from Amazon or local dealer.

Its $79.90 direct from GL.iNet. And you get the AU version.

But I'm not sure if that's AUD 79.90 or USD 79.90.

Whichever it is, that discount from AliExpress is wildly exaggerated. List price is $129. Whichever sort of $ that is.

      It's USD

My rule with aliexpress: it may all go to sh.t with this and if so don’t expect my money back. Am I happy potentially losing $x on this item?

Personally for the AUD$88 (that’s what it’s showing for me) I’d just spend more and buy it locally

AliExpress is a playground for the Chinese scammers.
If you are lucky you may get what you order, but if not you may as well write it off as AliExpress protects their sellers at the expense of buyers.
Been there done that (and lost)
Bought 15 items of different sizes from a seller. Only 10 items were ion the package delivered. Lodged a complaint but AliExpress said as the package was delivered claim was dismissed.
I lodged a protest and they wanted proof of the items that were not delivered - how do you photograph nothing??

    • Chargeback through PayPal then?

You must have bad luck. I have ordered a lot from aliexpress with 0 issues.

    • I've ordered hundreds of items from Aliexpress and never had any issue getting a full refund including shipping if the item was incorrect or didn't work.

Delivery does sometimes take a very long time though, I had some orders placed last year only show up late April… (after the dispute period had ended, so would be hard to get a refund if there was an issue with these ones)

  • Thanks all, dodged a bullet it seems. Will wait for amazon.

    Cheers!

I am fairly certain you can just reflash the firmware to ensure it is safe.

    https://dl.gl-inet.com/

Even if you purchase one off Amazon I would reflash it because of FBA even if it is sold and shipped by Amazon AU, it can still have malware on it because of co-mingling, at least I can confirm Amazon US has this issue.

Bad fake items I have received from Amazon US include fake seagate external drives, fake samsung evo 860 and more…

I believe Amazon AU uses the same co-mingling system which means you can still get fakes.

Sadly, not even sure if this is why Quilton is such bad quality these days. I suspect yes, but at the same time I'm not too sure.

    • Thanks for that! Hopefully there are no hardware based spying bugs.
