Buying little things/accessories like pedals, guitar tuners, capos, etc. from these guys is OK. Never buy any actual musical instrument from them though. They just don't seem to understand the numerous nuances involved in that side of things.

    • It's cheap Chinese crap

  • Love my bass guitar.

  • Go Johny go

Quite a lot of reviews & demos on YouTube. I'm not sure you can find better value than a $120 brand new guitar with HSS + coil split, gig bag & strap included, etc. Probably good enough for someone to get started or do mod with.

  • Guitar is a tough instrument to learn, with a very very high drop-out rate. According to Fender 90% of new guitarists give up within 12 months.

For 90% of people, this guitar would be a good first option. For the 10% that aren't quitters, it's a little more "buy once cry once". I still have the first decent guitar I ever bought, more than 20 years ago, and it would have been an easier instrument to learn on than the junk I started with.

    • It's cheaper than having piano, clarinet or flute as first musical instrument. Cheaper and more available lessons as well. I knew because my kids happen to play piano, clarinet and flute :(

My first electric was from 1993, a US-made Peavy which costed me ~$400 back then and I still own. I bought a new Chinese guitar 2 month ago for ~$450 and the quality is far far superior than the 30yo Peavy. Guitar is just something cheap and easy to get started with these days.

    • If you or your kid is going to try and learn guitar, the absolute worst thing you could do would be to 'start' with a cheap piece of crap. That is an almost certain way to ensure that you will get discouraged, and give up. You just can not make a s#it guitar sound good, and they go out of tune all the time. Why would anyone persist if even when they are doing everything right the whole thing is an exercise in frustration an 'making bad noise'?

The best 'first instrument' for any kid to start on, particularly if they are starting young, is piano; at least for a year or two. It's easy to 'press a key', and it gives the kid a great 'mental map' of how all the notes and chords relate to each other, which they can then extrapolate to any other instrument they decide to pick up later.

    • My first is the epiphone les paul jr that came with rocksmith for $108-9 bucks in around 2014…. Better than the guitar hero crapthey were peddling not long before……

  • I have the DST 152 and it's not bad. Dude that set it up for me couldn't believe what I paid for it. Good quality for the price.
