    nice prices, got 2025 dates?

    • None that I can see atm unfortunately

      • Any tips on how to do a search for Sydney to Tokyo but stopping over in Hong Kong during the first leg?
I don't know how to search for the three dates to get the lowest fares
there is no way to look at individual date prices without redoing a full search
if I say flexible for dates it will choose a completely different month and not just a few days left and right

Can you tell me more about "wife variety"?

    • Where do I sign up!

Any deals for China Southern to Japan Sep-Oct @flightfinderau

  • Are there any chances of us seeing flight deals to Japan mid to late Jan? I know the chances are slim…

    • Exactly what Im hoping for too

  • recently flew on CP and rate them high. I will have to find a work around for their 11:30pm brisbane arrival time.

I would avoid Tokyo in July/Aug if you dont like hot and humid..

    • +2

can definitely vouch for that — I went for a month in august and it was horrendous, I fled to Hokkaido and it was the complete opposite! 25 degrees, not a cloud in the sky and no humidity, paradise.

  • Thanks for the post, great prices!

  • Awesome prices OP! Is there a reason these are all 2 weeks or less? Any chance of a 3 week return deal being the same price for Melb <> Tokyo in May?

    • The two weeks is just an example. Feel free to extend it to 3 weeks. You should get the same prices!

      • Awesome! Just noticed that Cathay infant ticket is around $500 compared to less than $100 with some other airlines. Any idea why?

        • that's standard 75% of full fare similar to qantas/singapore etc if your child is >2 as they will require a seat. 10% of fare is for no seat infant ticket and applies for <2yo on select airlines.

          • +1

@May4th: Thanks for the detailed info @Halc!

          • @May4th: China Southern coming back considerably cheaper for a family of four incl. an infant on lap. While maybe to as good an airline, can't really pass up on ~$1k in savings.

  • Why is this post tagged "Airfare, Japan Airlines" when the airline is Cathay Pacific? Rep, you don't need to tag the airline's name, we will add the airline to the Related Store. But you should tag the destination which is "Tokyo" for this deal. Also please use commas "," after the prices. Your title is difficult to read without commas.

    • Thanks for the tips. Will do next time!

Credit status and points earned to Oneworld Frequent Flyer (e.g. Qantas Frequent Flyer)

Just be aware that only certain fare classes are eligible.

My experience is that the majority of cheap Cathay flights do NOT earn status and/or points for the Qantas Frequent Flyer programme.

    • +1

I got the exact same experience when I took Cathay in January this year
no status points or frequent flyer points earned to Qantas

I contacted Cathay customer care and I was able to "re-credit" those status points and miles to my Asia Miles account

Please beware that the asia miles account has to be opened prior to the flight departure date
so strongly recommended to open one asia miles (for free) just in case no points have been credited to QFF

You have to know the Cathay Pacific fare class and check against https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/earn-points/airl…

Doesn't look promising, but that is unfortunately the case for most Qantas partners. They're not wanting to reward you for flying other airlines.

      • The problem is that in many cases it is not easy to find the booking class and/or people may not know to look for it.
I had a similar issue with a Qantas fare I booked where it now says it is not eligible to upgrade from economy to business class due to fare class - nothing during booking indicated that would be the case.

The problem is that in many cases it is not easy to find the booking class and/or people may not know to look for it.

It is intrinsic misconduct and I cannot fathom how it is permitted. The product/service and associated "bundle of rights" are tied to a characteristic that they obfuscate or conceal from the customer. That would be a massively fineable offence if it were up to me.

I had a similar issue with a Qantas fare I booked where it now says it is not eligible to upgrade from economy to business class due to fare class - nothing during booking indicated that would be the case.

What was the fare type (and fare class if known)? International Economy Sale fares cannot be upgraded internationally, but other fare types should be eligible.

Yep, I did some checks last time a Cathay deal was posted and the Venn diagram between fares eligible for Qantas points and fares cheap enough to be concerned a deal is not overlapping. The fare codes for points earning flights start at over $1400 return.

The fares in this deal book into fare code Q which barely any partners give you credit for.

Doesn't mean you shouldn't take the deal, it's a good fare! Just don't expect the perks.

For those have AMEX, remember to combine with AmEx Statement Credit: Spend $1500 at Cathay Pacific, Get $200 Back @ American Express
This gives another $200 off on 2 return tickets (~$1600)

Any chance to extend the staying time in HK like couple more days?

    • +2

      I think OP has mention:

      • Stopovers available in Hong Kong (use the multi-city option)
    • +1

Yes, I stayed hk for a month, a week in japan, then 2 weeks in hk again before I returned Syd.

      • Did you get an extra charge? I'm looking at flightfinderau vs book.cathaypacific.com where I can put the multi city and it's $200 more

  • Does anyone know does Cathay Pacific require passport numbers to book? I'm planning a family trip to Japan later in the year and my sister is still waiting for two children's passports…

    • I just booked from CX 2 days ago
No, it doesn’t require passport number, just full name and DOB

Passport number does required for online check in though

  • Anyone successfully booked? Planning to go to Japan end of 2024, looks like a good deal.
