I think it is a good price for this kit. Local stores selling for around $59. The design might not suit everyone, but I reckon it is unique and looks cool. I have it in my backlog and bought it at $58 last year.

Edit: The price has dropped to $40.67

  • Out of curiosity how much do these go for in Japan like RG kits?

    • Quick Google, the RRP when it was released is 3,240 yen

      • Yeah its not bad only $10 or so above RRP

      • thanks buddy, not too bad then. I'm going to Japan at the end of the year and I was wondering if ishud wait and buy there and mail back. I have only just got into Gunpla

        • You'll be paying more to do that. You will most likely have to buy this from a secondhand or reseller store as it won't be at regular retail stores, as well as postage on top.

The problem with “waiting” depends on the popularity of the model. Some kits, especially the MG releases, are done in a large, but still limited, number produced. And they go back in the vault like a Disney film until they decide to produce it again. They don’t just keep pumping them out.

HG and some RG kits are cheaper and less rare, so they may be around and easy to find. If you’re not picky, totally go see what Japan has to offer. I got lucky and got a couple MG kits I wanted for under 5000 yen each. If you want a specific kit, best to snatch it up if it’s a good price.

Tokyo will be the worst for finding models from the main retailers at RRP. If you’re traveling around, you’ll likely have better luck in other cities.

Another option is Amazon. I found Amazon in japan had a good selection of kits that no major retailers had in stock in several different parts of Tokyo, and at RRP. Just had them delivered to the hotel.

And you want to bring these back in your luggage. Sending parcels internationally from any country is incredibly expensive.

          • @OhThatsATree:

Just had them delivered to the hotel.

Do you just put your name and address of hotel at checkout and let the reception know about a parcel that might be coming in your name? And do they just hold it for you and you collect at the reception? Cheers

            • @ven041: Yes, it's common to ship luggages/parcels between hotels, but email the hotel as headup

            • @ven041: If you're ordering before you arrive, you'll definitely want to give the hotel staff a heads up by emailing them. I'd suggest not doing so super in advance, a day or two at the max. More than that would be a bit rude as space will be limited for them to hold it.

If you're ordering it to arrive during your stay, no advance notice is really necessary. It's pretty common practice to have parcels arrive for hotel guests. The hotel will likely even have special notes they slip under your door to notify you that there's a package waiting at reception.

You just need to address the package to yourself, including room number, name of the hotel and address for the hotel.

For purchasing abroad, highly suggest an ING account. No fees for the account, no currency conversion fees, market rate.

          • @OhThatsATree: Thats great thanks for the info guys all very helpful. I think ill be packing light and coming back with a full suitcase of kits then :)

    • You can't get this guy at rrp anymore. Book off and other surugaya have it for ~¥8000 when I checked last week.

  • +1

$45 is pretty good price. I definitely paid more with shipping off HLJ.

Just a warning that it's a bit unstable though. Partly because the design of the suit itself but also partly RG being RG. Still really fun to build though.

  • Which Gundam series is this from? Anime or manga?

  • According to this wiki, it is from the manga Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray R.

  • I read the title as "Ashtray" and I was like they still make those?
