Been after a printer for home to replace an aging brother laser. Seems like a decent deal

Has issues getting it to connect to Wi-Fi and it's only black. Wife wants to print on photo paper too
Colour printing? Even colour laser printers do terrible colour for pictures compared to inkjets. I've owned both at the same time, and ended up getting rid of the duplex laser.
The main downsides of the inkjets are slower speed, and the ink runs if the paper gets wet.
Quality is usually much higher. And with an ecotank you can have years of printing without replacing cartridges.
Laser quality is higher for text. Inkjets + normal paper always results in a bit of ink bleed at the edges of text, laser way is sharper. But both are fine for daily use… would try to print CVs on laser though.
Quality of inkjet + photo paper is much shaper at edges and better for colour, but that paper costs a lot and the paper has a totally different look and feel to normal paper. You wouldn't print documents onto it.
Laser quality is by definition not higher for text because laser resolutions are lower than inkjet. Pico technology has come to a point where bleed is minimal these days - I don't see any bleed and I have this exact same printer. The ink is not only cheap - but gives more pages per fill (years of use) and print speed is now faster on inkjets than on laser when comparing similar price brackets.
Quality of laser colour is substantially lower than inkjet - I printed photos on regular paper and glossy and in both cases laser looked terrible.
Categories where inkjet beats laser:
- Consumables pricing
- Page count per consumable
- Print speed
- Print resolution
- Multiple colour cartrige options (in between colours such as magenta / cyan) to give better colour accuracy
- Price of printer
- Printer features (scan copy adf paper casettes touch screen lcds) included within price bracket
- Ink technology is cheaper to make
- Lots of ecotank printers advertise 2 years worth of printing included on the retail box itself (full set of ink bottles included) and some give another whole set for free
This is why more inkjet printers are on display in shops - laser has had plenty of time to be more common and it simply cannot compete.

Then you need to 1) look closer at the paper and 2) do a side by side comparison with laser. Have you done a comparison?
"Pico" doesn't stop bleed. It just means the droplets are smaller for higher claimed res. Bleed is controlled by a surface treatment to the paper, which normal office paper doesn't have. You need photo quality paper to reduce bleed. Anyone who thinks that edge sharpness with inkjet with plain paper is superior needs their eyes checked- the difference is extremely visible up close and next to laser output.
For black and white printing, nothing beats laser for cost per page, speed, and edge sharpness. Laser also has downsides.
I don't know why you're so desperate to think that you have the 'best' option available, they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Highly recommend this line of printer.
Mine (ET-2750) is an absolute unicorn:
- Prints/scans without issue over wi-fi (from PCs and mobile devices!)
- Ink consumption is impressively low
- Ink costs are very cheap (considering the volume you get with each bottle as opposed to buying a cartridge)
- Firmware updates are smooth (if opaque) and don't lock you out of your own hardware ($#@! you, HP)
The first printer I've ever owned that I haven't wanted to trebuchet into the next postcode.
What about the ET-2850?
Any suggestion for a decent ecotank that has auto duplex printing?
I just got an ET-3800. Prints double sided, networks well, wireless and ethernet. It's great.

What's the quality of photo print quality like? frameable?
If you use photo paper, kind of. If you use plain paper, not a chance.
The 4 colour printers are a bit rough compared to the 6 colour ones. If you are doing a side by side comparison, or if you are used to photography, you'll notice that some of the shades are off (e.g. green foliage).

I've had this printer for 2 years….no problems ever and it cops a beating from the entire family with printing & scanning.
So cheap to re-fill the tanks making it very cost effective & efficient printer to own.

Have a higher end ecotank and have done photo prints, the ink has lasted a long time, with the refills making it very affordable.
Plus the convenience of being able to print there and then.
Anyone recommends a reliable multifunction colour EcoTank printer (Epson or not), I want double side printing, scan, and copy, AirPrint a must. My current aging laser printer is great but it is 13 years old, and does not support AirPrint = Kids unfriendly. This beast is too bulky…
ET-3800 was mentioned earlier in the thread. I've had no issues with mine. It is pretty small. For double sided I find 100gsm paper is needed. I haven't used AirPrint but the specs say it supports it.
However unless you find a deal on it, it is about the same price as this deal. Uses different ink bottles than this one, seem to be a bit cheaper on the 3800.
