Restaurant Eating Challenges where you Don't Pay if you Finish. Any in Sydney?

We've all seen these challenges on TV or on the web. A restaurant (usually in the USA) will serve you a ridiculously oversized meal and if you can finish it (sometimes within a time limit) you don't have to pay for it. Some will even pay you a cash prize!

But do we have any of these in Sydney or even Australia? I'm envious of this American deal.

  • Here's the first one I've found:

Komachi Japanese Restaurant challenges you to eat an enormous bowl full of Ramen. If you finish the bowl full of Ramen and soup by yourself within a 60 minute time limit, you will receive a $100 meal voucher – and the soup & ramen you complete will be free! You must finish both the ramen and the soup. Note: if you are not successful you will have to pay $100.

    • WOAH check out the 23rd winner…That almost seems impossible!

    • yeah thats a crazy one, that bowl has like 6 bowls of ramen in it and you have to finish all the soup

    • They used to allow people to go to the toilet during the 60 minutes and it wasn't $100 if you failed either.

    Menya Godzilla Challenge

My mate had his picture on the wall, before they removed all of them.

    • This sounds like better value than Komachi.

  • Essen - Jurassic Pork

The challenge will run over the next few months and is sure to test even the most daring eaters: it’s a 1.6kg loaf of bread, overflowing with juicy marinated slow-cooked pork, coleslaw and our home-made BBQ sauce, finished off with a side of chips.

Contestants must finish the entire plate within 40 minutes, without leaving the table, to successfully complete the challenge. Winners will not only receive a commemorative Jurassic Pork T-shirt, but will also have the entry price of $49.50 fully refunded and have their photo placed on the Essen Wall of Fame.

  • This one isn't free if you finish, but Ribs & Rumps do give you a 10% discount on all future dinings as well as a steak knife (for some reason).

Full rack of ribs, 1kg rump steak + chips:

Pyrmont Bridge Hotel - Thursday - $20 1kg steak, chips, salad

No time limit, no sharing. Must be eaten where they can see you without too much effort.

But even if you do share between 2 people and intentionally forfeit, $10 per person is still great value.
Heck, even if you don't share and don't eat everything, $20 is good value.

    • this is the best. i might try it oneday

    • If you click WHAT'S ON THIS WEEK > THURSDAY, it says "1 hour time limit".

Have you been there? Do they not enforce the time limit?

Sorry Scrooge, I have been there but about 6 months ago. I should have read the fine print.
Certainly there was no time limit back then, though I'm not surprised they have since introduced it. Went with a group of 8 or so and 6 of us smashed it. The quickest was about 50 minutes and the slowest was around 1hr45.

The other 2… we don't speak to any more ;)

        • Fair enough. It does seem quite easy.

I saw an ad the other day on a bus shelter about the Hofbrauhaus in Melbourne - if you finish their 1.5kg Schnitzel and a litre of beer in 45 minutes it is free. Couldn't find it on their website but here is a thread on whirlpool about it

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2084062

Makes me sick just thinking about it

    • That's my thread :)

  • The Austrian Schnitzelhaus (NSW - Erina, Gladesville, Neutral Bay) has a 1kg schnitzel & 1litre beer challenge which is free if you beat the record time. Otherwise you just get a tshirt and a free dessert.

      Free dessert? ><

      • Cause clearly you will still be hungry

    • The chicken is so thick, normally snitzel is equal parts crumb to chicken. Not this one, more like chicken steak.

  • Any in Melbourne :) ?

My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why I got out of bed at all.

    • Captain America restaurant in Ferntree gully has a thing, where if you finish off a 1kg hamburger and 600g side of chips faster than the record, its free. Record is 6 min for men.

      • Damn, that's insane. I'd love to watch someone complete something like that in 6 minutes lol. How the hell do they do it?!

  • Saw this one before

The quality is bad! you get your name on board but still pay if you finish.

Seriously this is the worst challenge out of all of them!

      • Yeah I've heard from friend who have eaten there that the giant burgers are mostly bun.

  • Bump anyone found some new/more eating challenges?

  • Doesn't mc donalds have this kind of thing to in America?

    • Bound to get fubar'ed at Pho Bar with that challenge.

    • Gosh for $10 sounds like torture.
Hope you guys wear gloves or wash your wands with oil/dishsoap/alcohol before you piss or your mouth won't be the only thing that's burning.

      • +1

I completed it last year and I felt faint for days.

        • Did it burn as much as it when it left your body compared to when it entered it? πŸ˜‚

  • Just go here and look up Sydney. Or any place in Australia…
