TomTom Go Live 820 cracked screen

I have had a tomtom go live 820 for about a month, and in the process of simply turning it on this morning have managed to crack the screen - no undue force whatsoever, but I don't think much of our chances of getting it replaced under warranty. The machine is not working, in that it is largely unresponsive, and on the odd occasion that it does allow you to make a selection, it brings up the item below that that you have selected.

Can someone tell me what our options are please?

  • Cracked screen means no chance of getting it repaired under warranty.

    • An out of warranty repair will cost 90 AUD as an assessment fee. This charge only covers assessment, freight out and GST. Different models might carry different charges depending on the parts needed to be replaced.

  • Yeah. I read that but thought that should cover some repairs as well. Plus what does out of warranty mean? Lapsed or not covered. Seems like they price everything to be thrown away at Tom Tom. Most maps are $90 and a new device can come in at $20 or so more. Not much use getting a third party repair as it sounds like more than just the screen is gone. Looks like it needs to go in the bin.

  • If it broke under normal usage, take it back, it should be covered under warranty.
If they're smart they'll fix it for you, they make more off map upgrades and traffic subscription.
If they refuse take the matter to your state consumer protection dept.
