Bang for buck computer monitor?

Hey guys, in need of an extra monitor for my laptop. I'm not too familiar with these things; anyone know where I should be looking, and what brands/models is best for money? I'll be using it for some games like dota, and watching movies. nothing extreme.

cheers

  • Pretty hard to go wrong these days. Get anything 1920x1080 that you like the look of. If you want a better looking image consider IPS or higher resolution.

Note that for higher resolutions you will need better GPU performance to drive it and it will do nothing for video (everything is still 1080 at most). It also costs a lot.

    • Which places usually sell em cheapest?

  • budget name brand 27 inches at places like MSY are 260-280

    • And 21.5" starts at $129. A lot more monitor for your money, particularly as they are the same resolution.

      • Viewsonic 27" VA2703-LED 3.4ms 1920x1080 DVI D-Sub LED Backlight LCD Monitor

        How is that for $209?

Sorry guys, I really don't know anything about these things.

That monitor wouldn't require a strong cpu to run, right?

        • The only thing that matters in terms if processing power is the resolution, and all monitors at this price point are the same (1920x1080). Also the GPU is what matters, not the CPU.

The price and product you gave is good, but for $159 MSY will sell you 21.5" 5ms IPS LG 22EA53V-P. It is smaller but has the same number of pixels (squares) so it has the same level of detail (just like placing the 27" further away. The IPS screen will also look a lot better.

In the end this is a personal preference. Maybe go to a computer shop and have a look at the different sizes and screen types and see what you like.

  • if you have a hdmi TV plug it into it I have a 48 in TV (sonic) as my computer monitor works well and great for gaming
