Balance transfer when closing a credit card

Currently I have several credit cards, and considering to close my HSBC credit card, which I don't use anymore (no annual fee, no rewards, insurances, etc). If I call them and ask for a 0% balance transfer whilst threatening them with closing the card, would they be likely to do it? This card normally comes with a 6 month 0% balance transfer offer for new applications, but I've had it for 2 years. Thanks.

  • Close it an open a new one… But if you wanted a balance transfer card, check about, some may be 15 months at < 2%, others 12 months at 0%, various annual fees, etc. Do the sums and find out what is best.

Just bear in mind that frequently opening and closing credit accounts may look suss on your credit report.

    • Thanks. I wasn't really looking to close and reopen it, as I don't use this card anymore. I'm only asking for the balance transfer to earn myself a little interest, since the card will be closed soon anyway. Has anybody else has asked for balance transfer deals like this before and had any successes? Would HSBC need to do another credit check for BT, might get rejected due to applying for the citibank offer just this week?
