  • not recomended, seriously noisy. i bought one but have to thorough away

    • opss… as I wrote, I bought it.. but can cancel the order.. can you recommend anything around this price please ?

      • Noise is pretty subjective. Here's an actual recording of Braun vs Panasonic vs Philips (in that order):

        http://wikisend.com/download/504896/braun-panasonic-philips.…

I find the Philips noise the least unpleasant in actual use, its shape is the nicest to hold and the rotary cutter doesn't transfer vibration to the hand unlike the oscillating Braun/Panasonic. But the latter can give a closer shave on various areas of my face. I usually reach for the Philips as it's the most pleasant to use, but if I need a particularly close shave, I'll use two or three different shavers (a Philips grooming kit with the mini-foil attachment is often part of the mix).

  • As far as I've been able to suss out, many users of this model (Panasonic ES-LA63) speak of the LCD failing after a certain amount of months.

Seems like a design weakness since there are heaps of people that mention this. Check some of the lower-star reviews on Amazon. This is a far better price than we get here though, of course. If I were inclined to go a Panasonic, I'd probably choose one of their others.

  • what does the display tell you?

    • +1

      The LCD display?

It shows how much charge you have left. After you finish shaving and turn the unit off, it briefly tells you how long you have used the device too (in minutes and seconds). When charging it shows how much charge you have put into the battery. Those are the main functions. Unit can function after LCD failure, apparently. It's just less nice.

Panasonic design their shavers to be used with the internal battery only, too. If you connect the AC adaptor to the device, you cannot shave with it just using the mains. Battery has to have some charge.

If the battery has gone tits-up at some point and refuses to hold much charge (as they all do after they age), you need to get at the internal battery and have it replaced if you want to continue shaving. Most users will probably say "stuff that".

This is typical of so many manufacturers these days, not just Panasonic. More e-waste waiting for your local tip.
