Nice deal but id rather get the proper keyboard case so it folds nicely.

    • The picture shows the proper keyboard for this Acer tablet. As it is only 8" it has been designed to clip into the back of the keyboard and comes with a folding grey fabric slip cover that has a couple of velcro tabs to hold it closed. It actually isn't too bad really and the keyboard compliments the unit well. I wouldn't pay the $70 extra but picked one up in the DSE 40% off accessories sale for about $42). At the local DSE at Warringah Mall today they had the keyboard marked at 30% off or about $49. Comments on the unit itself - the processor is fine for basic stuff and I wanted a tab with proper (not RT) Windows and Office in the package is a nice bonus. I easily get a day on battery even with WiFi on most of the time, but the screen really isn't great (so check one out if you are thinking about it) but good enough for me for occasional use as I don't use it every day.

but no free keyboard but Microsoft Office Home & Student included

if you buy it today with the code 'browsemore' for $268 but it doesn't come with the keyboard.

Current DSE online 10% off Tablets better deal with W8-810 $219 after cashback (without keyboard).

    • are you sure the current one for $219 after cashback has not keyboard?

it is pictured with it, as is acer's website?

      • Found this from a previous page. Seems like the keyboard is shown on the catalogue but not actually included.

        • I would be aggrieved if it was pictured and did not come with it.

Which would lead me to think that others would be too, so why haven't they removed the image with keyboard I wonder?

        • +1

According to latest DSE newsletter, keyboard is included.

        • Well, the keyboard is not included when checkout using your newsletter's link. Anyone have the keyboard included in the bundle when checkout ?

        • good pickup mate.
i have purchased.. will let everyone know!

$219 for an obsolute, poor screened, slow tablet running an unpopular os.. great deal.

        • WNK you are right.
I just got an e-mail from DickSmith confirmed my order is come with keyboard.

  • Personally i'd hate to run a full OS on something so small but if this is your baileywick then it's a good deal.

negatives: it's an Acer, 8" low res screen, Atom processor, poor battery life
    positives: windows 8, price

    • +2

New Atoms are actually pretty good for anything other than resource intensive stuff. However, this isn't a newer Atom.

    • negatives: you haven't actually used one and are pulling comments out of your a35hole

I have repaired so many Acer's that I know when to look towards other brands.

not about pricing comparison, however FYI only of the best tablet in my opinion, asus Vivo tab 8" from kogan $399, and Dell Venue Pro for $399, and MS surface pro 1 on sale now for $429- $539 and Lenovo thinkpad 8 for $549 are better investments

  • +2

Don't forget this is previous gen atom dual core (clover trail) versus the newer bay trail quad cores found in the venue 8 pro, lenovo miix 2, toshiba encore and asus vivo tab 8. These new atoms are far superior.

  • For the basic tablet user this chip should be fine as it's only about 30% to 35% less power than the newer quad core bay trail Z3740, but due to the resolution of 1280x800 on this 8" tab, the performance loss will be further reduced. Battery stamina should be not far behind say an Asus T100, with the Acer's quoted 9 hrs. against 11 hrs for the T100. This Acer today especially with the 10% off ( and if you do the cash-back ) is far cheaper than any other W8 tab going, so a performance drop is still acceptable for the basic user wanting a portable, compact, lightish W8 tab on a budget. Keep in mind that you will get the keyboard included for an extra $80 ( valued @ $ 69.98 ) starting I think on Thursday the 13th as shown in picture of new brochure ( no 10% off, today only ). Go get it

  • Good price ($219), but I just don't think I could live with the screen…its been reviewed as being pretty terrible…prob ok for basic use though…

    • Sure you aren't looking at reviews for the W800? I think they improved the screen for this model

I think it's alriiiight value, just not sold on low power Win tablets over Android etc.

      • I read a few reviews, but just looking now, found the Engadget one:

"Even for a budget tablet, the W3's 8.1-inch, 1,280 x 800 screen feels like a letdown. Head-on, at least, colors are balanced and the pixel density is pleasing, but once you adjust the screen angle at all, whether it be horizontally or vertically, the panel quickly becomes washed out. Pick a really off-kilter angle and the screen takes on a sickly yellow overcast, especially in areas that are supposed to be white."

The W4 (new version of this) is supposed to be much better though…

    • I bought one and returned it. That screen is literally the worst. It is like there is a matte panel under the shiny cover glass, so not only does it look grainy but the colours shift from one side to the other it is that bad of a tn panel.

Please don't buy it. You won't like it.
Its also really big, heavy and gets really hot under light use.
And the wifi reception is crap compared to literally anything else.

So please don't do it to yourself.
      Please don't buy it.

  • Have one of these and its brilliant

    • Seem Centrecom's deal does not include the MS Office 2013 Home and Student.

  • Does it also has the traditional windows desktop mode?

    • +1

Yes - I have one of these units and have updated it to Windows 8.1 and run a number of older applications in Desktop mode. This is full Windows not RT so you can load your own stuff.
