Power banks are one item I would definitely go mainstream brand with.
It is speculated that a lot of Chinese ones are made with used or seconds phone batteries. Not what you want from a device that can generate fire.
Better to get something from a company with a name to protect (Sony etc)
Do you really wanna plug $800 worth of iProduct into $7.80 worth of mystery-poo?

Do you really wanna plug $800 worth of iProduct into $5.70 worth of poo?

I wouldn't want to risk my $7.80 device by plugging any ipoo into it.

    • Thanks for the caveat. I will be sure to avoid any of these cheap powerbanks. I honestly had no idea they were that bad!

no way thats anything close to 5600mah. probably more like 500. also dangerous fire/explosion risk. id suggest keeping well clear.

    Capacity: About 5600mAh

lol thats probably the biggest give away of how bad it is. the battery inside either is or isnt 5600mah. theres no "about" about it

    • I thought that spec was a little bit vaguely worded :P

Methinks the only way they can make these so cheap is to take old 18650 lithium cells out of old laptop batteries and shove it into an enclosure. Or perhaps they may be using rejected or defective lithiums which may simply stop working at any time or become swollen / leak poisonous gas when they become overcharged.

The difference between a crappy lithium cell and a branded quality cell is night and day. Same thing with Eneloops — I know ozbargainers upvote like mad whenever a Eneloop goes on sale — because they're good quality and everyone knows it — but no one knows anything about 18650 cells.

A pair of branded (LG, Panasonic) 18650 cell with 3000mah capacity usually costs around $12 new, and you can also buy cheap enclosures from eBay to create your own power bank with legit capacities.

    • Is an "18650 cell" just a fancy name for a rechargeable AA battery?
If so, i could definitely go the approach of buying a cheap powerpack casing/housing and using my own batteries.

nah i used housing with 4 eneloop, the experience isnt so good, it charge yes but very short time

      • Is an "18650 cell" just a fancy name for a rechargeable AA battery?

that way of thinking is VERY VERY VERY dangerous… lips are pretty much literally a bomb waiting to go off if handled incorrectly to the point each battery needs its only little controller built into the battery but unfortunately not all (specially not the cheap ones) have built in protection even if they say they do…

from a quick skim read through, this is what can happen with a short circuit in a lipo

        • What can I say, I'm a dangerous man ;)
sounds like a recipe for home made terrorism.
I'll steer clear of blowing myself up. Thanks for saving my life :)

        • wow just rereading that… damn my typing bad… i hope it made enough sense anyway.

i purchased a similar one from buy in coins about a year and a half ago link below

i use it a lot as i am a heavy user i can get around 2 and a bit full charges for my Huawei Ascend P2 been very handy.
The only thing was the power cord that came with it was a bit dodgy but i started using a spare i had to fix that i probably use it 2 -3 times a week sometimes more.

Thanks, that one looks good. So you can vouch for the quality?
I guess it is a mixed bag with these types of products but ultimately it is a small purchase so you aren't risking big money if it ends up being a dud.

In those countries it could feed a family for a month!!!

Limefuel is one brand that you guys should take a look at….only thing is it cannot be shipped to Australia

    • I guess that spending a million dollars and flying it in on a jet is something we could look at…only thing is we can't afford it.

  • I bought a macbook pro charger from them about 2 months ago, still going strong, only thing I had to change the adapter to Australian apart from that works perfect. $28 versus Apple odd $100 http://www.buyincoins.com/item/2107.html
