Just wondering if people are getting charged 3% in fees when using american express at the good guys when using their $50 off purchases over $250?
Is that unusual?

My local good guys says the whole pay cash and we will slash the prices thing applies to any payment except amex. So if you have negotiated a "cash" price perhaps the amex fee is reasonable, if your paying the ticket price there shouldn't be a fee.
I think the good guys are all franchises so it could vary store to store.
My mother got $3 off in the end, lol, then went to check out and they first were not going to accept it at all then did for 3%. It was a tv price was $334 got it for $331. Mum asked what the lowest price he could go and that is what he said.
We bought a dishwasher at Good Guys Artarmon NSW Home Quarter, ticketed price was $698 but a week ago was selling special at $598. We asked for best price he said $640. Paid split payment with 2 amex no surcharge. So I think in your scenrio it maybe best cash price and varied from store to store, better check in advance.
Is it just in that $50 scenario or always. I know that Amex always charges the vendor a higher % rate than Visa/MC.
Years ago when I owned my own business, Visa/MC cost was ~ 0.9%, whilst Amex was asking 4%+. That was the reason why most small businesses refused to accept them.
No idea what the charges are now though.
