Has anyone upgraded their old Optus ZTE tablet using a Mac?

This is driving me nuts.

I'm not even sure it can be done, but maybe someone here has found a way…

Love my old Optus ZTE tablet. Suits my needs great. There is ONE THING in my eyes that would make it Fantastic. I want to upgrade it from Android 2.1 to 2.2, so that I can transfer apps to the SD card.

However, I have a Mac, and this seems an impossible task and I'm going around in circles.

Has anyone here done this with a Mac?

I have absolutely NO ACCESS to a PC to do this. All my friends have Macs. Local library won't let you download things to do updates.

Help!!

  • Local library won't let you download things to do updates.

Download the files you need onto a USB stick from
    http://personal.optus.com.au/web/ocaportal.portal?_nfpb=true…

Take it to any PC and do the updates from there.

Other places where you can access a PC and be able to download:

TAFE or university library (will require a login)
Internet Cafe (you'll have to pay a small fee to use their computers though)

  • You have extremely weird friends.

First, ditch the ZTE v9 and get something newer - it's well past it's use by date and even the cheapo Coles/Kmart stuff is better.

You also ought to be able to run a PC emulator under the Mac to access PC stuff - I'm very surprised you've not needed to do so before now, mac stuff is strictly minority stuff.

    But really, ditch the v9.

  • Mine has been running cyanogenmod / Android 2.3 pretty much right after I bought it almost 3 years ago. I would do what @sane say — "ditch the v9". Many apps still need to be installed in the internal memory which is just not enough. Mine is now permanently connected to an old Logitech speaker running nothing but TuneIn Radio.

I appreciate your suggestions on upgrading the device, but I hardly use it as it is, and it suits my needs. I have no desire to spend money upgrading something I only really use as an ebook and a music player.

I'm a photographer, and all my friends/colleagues use Mac. All my friends are artists of some description. We will always be Mac natives. We consider YOU in PC town strange!!

  • Just had a friend texting me asking about upgrading his ZTE V9 to 4.4. I was like wtf that slow ARMv6 device running KitKat?

Apparently someone ported CM11 to our beloved Optus device (for those OzBargain old timers). Now here's a project for the weekend.
