    • Nope. That's the E-M10. This is the E-M1

    • You can tell the difference just by looking at the picture

If anyone's looking at the PRO lens it's actually cheaper to buy the body and lens separately ($1769, compared to $1790 kit.)

  • Wow, that is cheap. I don't really need this camera, I didn't even like the E-M5 that much… but I'm tempted!

    • Why didn't you like the E-M5?

Depending on what you didn't like, you might not like the E-M1, as they are very similar cameras.

  • Thanks for this, I was pretty much going to buy one at the previous price, but at $869 after cashback, it's a no brainer :)

Great price, great camera, great selection of lenses available. I would recommend this over any DSLR on the market <$2k

  • That is a seriously decent price. Anyone want to buy a used EM5 :P?

  • Looking at buying Sony a6000, or EM5. Is the M1 worth it for a beginner? It's only ~$200 more expensive than the one's I've listed.

    • You need to consider which system you want to invest into and for what reason - as you are likely going to get a number of very different opinions from users.

I would probably pick the EM1 over all the options you have listed, but then I haven't been actively keeping up to date. Though in reality I'm on the A7 bandwagon and wouldn't be moving back to APS-C or M43.

      • I'm also on the A7 bandwagon and wish i'd waited a little bit.

Still no decent mid-market lenses available, not really much in the 3rd party space either. All the glass is very expensive, although apparently very good. I'm just not up for the prices. Only option is to buy the APS-C lenses (pointless as i've purchased the full frame) or use the adapter.

    • No comment vs A6000 (as then many factors then come into play) - but I'd say it is worth it vs the EM5 for the viewfinder alone and ergonomics (for my hands) alone. If you're using the eye-level EVF - it is so much nicer than the one in the EM5.

  • Purchased. I own the EM5 and a crapload of lenses. This was a no-brainer at the price!!!!!

  • This is body only. No Lens.

  • Can any owners of this (or any other 4/3 cameras) suggest a good quality zoom lens for this camera for an African holiday?

    • Sure. I am a long-time Oly user and you can't beat the 50-200 digital zuiko lens. Incredible! Will set you back $1200+ but after using it for 4+ years I would have paid double and still considered it great value.

  • Is it better than the Sony mirrorless camera series Cameras: older NEX6/NEX7 or new alpha 6000?

    • Lens selection at least is much better.

      • Hmm. But sensor size is smaller.

        • Yes its a bit smaller but Lenses are a lot better. I would say MFT performs just as well as most APS-C cameras including crop frame DSLRs except for focus tracking.

Pair this camera with a Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4 and you will have a camera that is able to perform just as well as any APS-C sensor camera, incredible in low light give the OMD's legendary in body stabilization.

          Zuiko 12mm f2
          PL 25mm f1.4
          Zuiko 45mm f1.8
          Zuiko 75mm f1.8

Makes for an amazing set of fast and incredibly sharp prime lenses even wide open. The last one, the 75mm is claimed to be one of the sharpest lenses for any system.

        • I have had both NEX and Panasonic GH1,GH2,G6. The nex is now gone because it's low light video performance did not match the m43 chip. Much more noise from the Sony chip. Whilst the chip size is important, the way the signal is processed is also important to the result.

    • Would say its up to preference. I had a NEX6 and sold it after I played around with the OMD-EM5. The OMD was alot speedier and intuitive for me. Also, like Jakentta said, lens selection is much much better.

  • already have an ep-5
not sure whether to "upgrade" or not
though I do have the vf viewfinder

lenses are interchangeable between both I take it ?

    • I wouldn't bother, pretty much the same sensor and same viewfinder, just in a different package. Lenses are fully compatible, both are Micro Four Thirds cameras. But if you do buy this one, I'll be happy to take that E-P5 off you! Cheaply, of course.

    • If you have four-thirds lenses (quite hard to find), then the E-M1 does focus faster as it is both phase-detect (the same system that most SLR cameras use) and contrast-detect autofocus capable.

The various four-thirds lenses that were ever made are shown here…
      http://www.four-thirds.org/en/fourthirds/lens_chart.html

Four-thirds is essentially a 'dead' format, no new four-thirds lenses are expected.
It is also quite difficult to buy a four-thirds lenses new, which is a shame,
since there is some very good four-thirds glass out there. Last time I looked,
DigiDirect Melbourne did have a Leica four-thirds lens, but at a hopelessly expensive price.

Very occasionally it is possible to pick up a bargain second-hand four-thirds lens.

I like my four-thirds versions of Olympus 9-18, 14-54 II and 70-300 (a tweaked Sigma),
especially the latter two. They are all heavier than the microfourthirds equivalents.

  • plus going o/s in a couple of weeks so TRS refund on $1169 then get cashback later.
I think this is going to be a winner…..

I'll be very upset if you lot buy all these before I get some money tomorrow :-) fantastic price and a nice upgrade to the E-M5 I bought 3 weeks ago!!

    • haha - I got the Myer deal as well but this is seriously tempting!

  • +1

ChickenTalon you get a + from me just for your avatar :) Awesome deal though.

  • +1

Sony's new keenly priced A7 is making cameras from other manufacturers that are in the same price backet look expensive in comparison. Olympus are accutely aware of that, hence the big cashback on offer. Expect to see similar moves from other brands soon.

  • Wasn't even on my radar, and now I'm thinking I'm going to trade up my em5 for this!

  • I played around with it in the Myer Centre, it felt nice in my hands with just the right amount of heft.

Damn just got it from DigiDirect but seems to be cheaper here.

    • nvm..Mobile site doesn't state that it includes the cashback but the original site does.

    • Yep. A few retailers sneaky like this. Claiming they've dropped the price and just given you the cash back inclusive price.

  • Plus 1 for the thread but I just bought the Panasonic gh4 which leaves them all in the dust. Em1 is very good also though.

    • The GH4 is $1708. That's double the cost of the EM1!

      • +1

The GH4 is no doubt a much better camera for video… but for still photos, I suspect the EM-1 will still be the better camera. Mainly due to ergonomics (a personal thing) and the image stabilisation. Obviously, depends on your needs, both are extremely capable cameras.

I ordered a tamron lens (24-70) for $889! but they quoted me up to 6 weeks to fulfill.
does that have something to do with financial year? I'm not knowledgeable on taxes, all I'm afraid of is that they are taking orders knowing this - which means it might ACTUALLY take a whole 6 weeks before I can have the lens?
    really hope not :(

Great camera. Great reviews. Would get this if I didnt already invest so much into Fuji

  • +1

By the way, if anybody wants the Pro kit with the 12-40mm f/2.8, Gerry Gibbs Camera House in Perth are doing it for $1999. Yes, that's BEFORE cashback, making Pro Kit $1699. Just bought one myself. :-)

    • They have a flat rate shipping of $17.95. Great.

  • +1

Just got one from Camera House shop, mentioned the digiDirect deal and paid $1180 before cash back. No need to wait for online order. Happy! Thanks OP!

    • +1

The Camera House I called said they definitely could NOT match DigiDirect's prices. I would rather have done the same as you.

      • +1

If you're in Sydney, try the camera house shop at Top Ryde shopping centre. I called today for a price match they said the best they can do is $1199. I conter-offered $1180. Deal!

        • no comment didnt realize deal is over

        • +1

Deal is still on. Today is the final day of the sale.

        • The deal is certainly still on. I just bought another lens 5 minutes ago. I'm not sure why it's listed as expired.

        • Price is now $999 not $869. Still an ok price

  • Now it is gone back up to 1299.
Good! because I was just about to buy it…

  • Has anyone had theirs delivered or even shipped yet? I ordered mine on Sunday afternoon and haven't heard anything from them after the order confirmation email. A bit annoying, even suspicious.

    • Mine was ready Fri afternoon. Picked it up Fri night. Lovin' it!
I bought a lens at the same time but that was only ready today.
However I also ordered a lens Sunday & haven't received anything apart from the confirmation. It's not suspicious. They're very busy I'm sure!
And the staff instore have been very friendly & helpful! I have been very impressed with them.

    • I also ordered on Sunday. I've rang them a few times and they said they had huge demand and are awaiting shipment from the manufacturer. They quoted 10-15 business days, although he seemed to think it should be quicker than that.

I'm overseas in 2 weeks, so they've said they'll refund me if it doesn't come prior to that time. Little bit annoyed, as before I purchased the guy told me that stock would simply need to be brought in from Sydney which would take 2-3 days.

      • Pretty similar situation here, I'm heading overseas on the 28th, so getting a bit nervous as to whether I'll actually get the camera or not. Would love to, as it is a great deal, but as long as I'll get my money back, I can settle for that too.

        • +1

Just got an email saying that it's ready to pick up after 4pm today.

  • +1

Mine just arrived. Very happy. Great price and good service from DigiDirect.
