10% off Store Wide at David Jones, Myer, JB Hi-Fi, City Beach +More Via 10% off Gift Cards @ Big W

2100

By taking advantage of the Big W Family and Friends 10% off storewide deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/146066) this weekend, you can effectively get 10% off storewide at a number of other stores by buying the desired store's gift card at Big W.

Step 1: Head to your local Big W this weekend with a printout of the flyer from the Big W 10% off deal.

Step 2: Go to the Gift Cards section (near Confectionery usually) and choose a gift card for the store you want 10% off at. These include:

  • Event Cinemas
  • Hoyts
  • Myer
  • David Jones
  • Jay Jays
  • Sportsgirl
  • Just Jeans
  • Smiggle
  • City Beach
  • Rebel Sport
  • Dymocks
  • BCF
  • Country Road
  • JB Hi-Fi
  • Kathmandu
  • Supercheap Auto
  • Dusk
  • The Iconic
  • AMF Bowling

and probably some others depending on what gift cards your local Big W has available.

Step 3: Purchase the gift card at the front registers for 10% off its price (e.g. a $100 Myer gift card will cost you $90).

Step 4: Redeem the gift card at the selected store. You'll have 12 months to redeem it.

EXCLUSIONS: 10% offer at Big W is not valid for any Woolworths Limited gift cards or WISH gift cards. All other gift cards are not excluded as far as I'm aware. Remember there's a $50 minimum spend at Big W to receive the 10% off offer.

    • Most of the gift cards have pre-valued amounts on them. With JB, I believe they offer gift cards with face values of $50 and $100. So have fun waiting for 20 gift cards to activate :p

  • If I buy some OMO annd hair crlers will I get 10 % off

  • I know the following additional gift cards are available at Woolworths stores, so I don't see why they wouldn't be at Big W as well:

Red Balloon, EB Games, Xbox Live, Microsoft Money, PSN Money, Nintendo eShop Credit.

Edit: iTunes, pre-paid Mastercard, pre-paid phone credit (and I suppose SIM cards)

That's all I can think of, off the top of my head at the moment. Will add more if I can remember them.

  • EXCLUSIONS: 10% offer at Big W is not valid for any Woolworths Limited gift cards or WISH gift cards.

That's a shame. I would have purchased a Woolies gift card, then used that gift card to buy more gift cards, repeated and gotten 10% free credit every time.

I guess they thought of it first.

    • We have been discussing that above. We can possibly get Westfield cards instead. Only thing is that there may be an issue purchasing gift cards with other gift cards.

      • +1

Can you use the self service registers to buy the gift cards or do you have to go to a "real" person

        • +1

Real person. If you try self service you will get the "wait for assistance"

      • Why would that be an issue?

  • +1

Westfield gift cards have a $5.95 fee on top of their face value, e.g. a $100 Westfield card is actually $105.95.

10% off $105.95 is $95.355 so still a small saving but not much.

    • Not worth it for compounding, but I want to buy something from Target. Is this still the only way?

Is there a maximum value you can put on a Westfield card, or can you put any amount of credit you want?

  • Does anyone know if they have Good Guys gift cards? need to buy a dishwasher might be worthwhile getting gift cards to use :)

    • +1

Lol, I'm in the same situation, dishwasher died last weekend, looking for a new one!

      • Same ! Either Harvey Norman or Good Guys.

        • i went good guys cuz they had a Bosch built in (version i need) for $598 (not the good version of Bosch obviously) but at least it's Bosch … thought well another 10% off would be good!

is it me or does it get way more painful to do dishes manually after you've had a dishwasher! and not to mention the not so happy wife!

        • I checked QV store where I am working at, they have neither

    • +1

Unfortunately, no brick&mortar store sells TGG gift cards anymore (other than TGG itself).

      • damn it.. thanks for the reply! champ!

  • If the item price at one of these stores is $560 then how much in $ do I need to buy gift cards for? Is it $504? ? I can't work it out.

    • +1

$560 worth of gift cards then you just pay $504 for it when checking out.

      • Thanks so presumably it is $550 as in multiple of $100 or $50 . thanks!! +1

    • Yes, it's just 10 % off.

  • -3

Can anyone confirm that there is a working recursive compounding gift card buying scheme? Send me a PM if you like.

  • can anyone confirm that I will receive EDR points on the purchase of gift cards?

    • Pretty sure you do. Got points for Myer gift cards from last time round.

    • I have seen evidence that if you buy non WW cards at Woolworths, QFF points are paid on the transaction. I don't know if it will work at Big W but the pattern seems to indicate that it would work.

  • +2

Was thinking of buying $300 worth of Westfield cards at Bankstown BigW then go to Burwood Target and purchase their Wii U bundle but that time and effort seems cumbersome for $20.

    • +11

      Effort? Cumbersome? To save $20?

      THIS. IS. OZBARGAIN!!

      • +4

haha I changed my mind after I read your comment but realised there is a $6 fee with the giftcards, not $3. Effectively making it a $10 saving. Petrol would cost more than that so I'll pass

  • Can I use any of these cards at Harvey Norman ? Cheers !

    • You could, but why would you want to?

  • No Dick Smith giftcards in the mix?

    • +1

I believe they still fall under the "wish gift" card scope. But it's possible that some Big W's stock Dick Smith only cards.

    • It is in mt gravatt qld

  • Thanx op :-)

  • Going to finally use my 1c Myer Scoopons and stack it with this.

    $90.02 for
    2 * $10 Scoopons & 1 * $100 Myer Card=
    $120 buying power

    25% Off.
    I love OzB.

  • Would Big W Price Match Targets Wii U package?

    • +1

you will have to ask the 16 year old working behind the counter at Big W ..hehehehe but the below might help .. :)

      Australia's lowest prices everyday.
At BIG W our commitment is to offer you “Australia’s Lowest Prices Everyday”. If by chance you should find an identical item currently advertised at a lower price by another store, we guarantee to match the price on the spot. Just present the competitors current advertisement or ask an associate to verify the price. BIG W will price match any product that is identical to the same brand; the same model number or style; the same weight. Excludes clearance or wholesale items; online sales; soiled and damaged stock, liquidation sale offers; member or club prices; second hand, floor stock, end of line, ex demo or similar; and a price printed in error.

  • Staff dont have the meet the $50 threshold cheerin

  • This is a good deal but I thought I would share my bad experience with prepaid visa from Just4gift. The card was not even opened when I took it to the shop last week but the balance was only $5 remaining (meant to be $100). Had to ring the helpline which cost $1.50 to check transaction history. Sent an email, rang different number, found out it was used by someone else in Feb(not sure how they know the card number and CVV), so I had to lodge dispute form and wait. Not worth the effort! Stick to the store cards, Guys!!

  • +1

awaiting tomorrow mornings flood of either success or failure stories ;)

  • Anyone know if I buy these on a Gem Visa card if I'd get 6 months interest free as well?

  • +2

Well just came out of big w tea tree plaza, said all gifts cards are not included !

  • Didn't work for me. :(

  • Works for jbhifi cards. Bought $550 worth and paid $495. Brilliant. Did not work for the mastecard loads.

  • Maybe it depends on the store. The manager where I was just flat refused to process the transaction on Myer gift cards.

    • Point them to the flyer. Myer not excluded.

      • Yeah, I tried to argue. Gave up after a while. The manager was trying to convince me that 'woolworths gift cards' meant all gift cards.

        • Just an update, good news after spewing the words "accc" manager reluctantly give an ok, and it works, what load of crap. Fine print didn't mentioned "myer" at all. Apparently their interpretation of "wish gifts cards" related to all. Dodgy.

Just confirmed working at Waverley Gardens, Vic

She suggested it was excluded so I insisted to read the wording that it only excludes Woolworths Limited gift cards. She read it word for word and reluctantly agreed to try it. She was all smiles when the discount came off when voucher was scanned.

She wouldn't let me keep the printed voucher though so clearly she's never heard of OzBargain.

I used it for Rebel and Country Road

    • Yup took my print outs but who cares, I got another print out but doesn't matter anyway since I got them.

    • Just download another coupon, or make multiple copies https://www.bigw.com.au/offer/FamilyAndFriends

Did any one see any Coles Myer cards?

      • +2

        You think WW sell them?

  • Worked with myer and iTunes cards at big w Liverpool AT Self checkout. Scan cards but cover bar codes. Scan barcode on voucher. Discount comes up after you click pay now on screen

    • Don't gift cards need to be activated first?

      • +1

It's automatically activated when u pay for it I can see on the screen it's contacting server and getting activated and spits out an activated receipt

        • So do you scan the barcode on the actual gift card or the barcode of the cardboard that the gift card is attached to?

        • +2

Cover bar code on cardboard so the barcode on the card scans this also so it gets activated
Basically if you scan as normal it gets error as it's detecting two bar codes
I just took the cards off the cardboard and scan the cards because they were annoyingly covering part of the card barcode. I bought 2 myer card and 1 iTunes card in separate transactions as I have a me bank 5% cash back card

I then went to myer and used the two myer cards right away to buy a $178 electric brush I wanted. Absolute bargain.

        • +1

Why didn't you get your itunes card from Myer too? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/146291

        • I tried that with jb hifi cards, didn't allow me to process it through

  • Were selling at Southland….. Now manager stopped it on all cards….. ACCC anyone?

    • If they don't want to sell gift cards they should just remove them all from display. Their fault for stuffing up their T&Cs in the first place.

  • +3

It's working for those who are near Top Ryde. They also have a laminated copy of the barcode if you forget to print one just ask them about it. Manager on duty confirmed gift cards are included.

    Plenty of all cards.

Have checked one of my Myers cards, it looks activated according to Myers website.

Off to Myers to buy suits for wedding… 30% off suits too at the moment. Bargain wedding win!

  • It activates cards right away. I bought myer cards from big w in Liverpool westfield then walked into myer and bought Phillips sonicare electric toothbrush for $178 within 5 minutes

  • Didn't work on self checkout for jb hifi cards but went through the register and after a couple minutes of arguments got through with 300 worth of cards. Heaps of Myer ones a few jb ones and others at fountain gate

  • Can someone who got the Myer cards with this deal scan/post their receipt.. Might give another shot with the manager refusing to honor the discount on Myer cards..

  • Just tried to purchase a myer $100 gift card. Store would not honour the 10%. They said that in the fine print "esssential" gift cards means "all other gift cards". Has anyone managed to purchase any with 10% off???

    • Essentials gift cards are a Woolworths card

      show them this link
      https://everydaygiftcards.com.au/CardsCatalogue?cardCategory…

    • Rubbish. This is an essentials gift card http://giftcards.net.au/essentials-gift-card/. Go back and show them this.

    • Be adamant about the 10% off, like my story above, tell them you will lodge ACCC complain if they do not offer you since it is misleading or false advertisement.

    • -1

I just came back from Big W Tea Tree Plaza and the cashier gave me the same spill. I love OzBargain and all but I'm not one to argue over $5 for a $50 voucher. Epic fail. And I couldnt bare the embarassment if I tried it at the self checkout and it didn't work.

      Essentials my behind!

    • I bought like 3000 jb gc
Theyactually handed out the voucher for me when I came
;) and went to JB for a nikkor lens
      Happy

    • Big w tea tree plaza eventually decided to honour the 10% off.

  • +1

As I was counting out $1000 of DJ cards a nice young man hovering around stand bowled up and said "sorry discount does not apply"
Politely pointed out the exclusions to him and asked him to confirm with his manager that he/she was happy
to be contacted by ACCC on Monday as it was a clear violation of advertised conditions.
    Caved in immediately.
Manager confirmed they had a directive from head office not to allow the cards.
Anyone getting refusuls just stand up to them

  • Bought $200 worth of JB Hifi and $200 of Myer at the self-checkout in Gungahlin no issues

  • Hey guys, I managed to get a large number of Myer $50 gift cards for $45 at my local big w (they had about 60 Myer gift cards in stock).

I grabbed them from near the lollies section, and then paid for them at the Electronics counter where iPad's and stuff are kept (usually at the back of the store).

Great find Op, now to wait for Myer to have a sale on macbook's lol! (10% APPLE sale at Myer, 10% friends Myer staff discount, 10% discount from gift cards Potentially)!

    Good luck everyone!

    • Which Big W?

      • Calamvale, Upper Mt Gravatt (Garden City) in Brisbane, Queensland.

Had to purchase them at 2 different stores as one of the stores only had a few Myer gift cards in stock!

  • +2

At Doncaster Westfield Big W. They have removed all the DJ, Myer, JB etc gift cards and the flyer they are giving out at the front has the word Wish in the exclusions crossed out in pen. I guess you have to find a small Big W with less sneaky staff to buy one.

Edit: what about walking in with 10 inactivated cards from another store and paying for them at Big W self checkout?

    • We nearly went to Doncaster but I suspected we might have trouble so ended up going to Epping. Had no problems. Lady at checkout asked about cards and she was told it was Ok for everything except wish cards. Purchased 2 jb cards.

  • Thanks heaps op- now 2 grab an s5 for $765 :-)

  • I must hv been the 1st one in store , 1st the declined them as all gift cards and it won't go through. They showed me and it gone through! Then they had to confirm with manager and told it's fine to process them. But they had to do 3 cards at a time otherwise it'll crash their system. I've got 2 cards down and it's because they entered the card number inaccurately caused activation failed. They told me to get another card but then I found their mistake, showed it to them and managed to get that 2 cards too. On another register , a gentlemen is getting Westfield and myer cards, a cranky lady stopped him and came to my register and said these are all wish cards, and of course I argued they are not. And my register lady said but the system let the discounts through. They said this in front of me that they r waiting for phone call hopefully to stop this.

In a nutshell, I've got my discount. I'd expect some decent customer service after all the are making sales. But I felt I was the one working and being nice to them and they are the cranky ones.

I'm still happy with my discount!!!

    • To everyone who says it worked. Please tell us where it worked.

      • Mac arthur, Carindale qld
        Heaps fo Myer and DJ

  • Just tried BIG W, Hoppers Crossing, got denied by multiple people, they have been told by head office that everybody is trying this. It even says on their list of exclusions "wish" gift cards.

  • Winston Hill NSW
$600 myer card went thru the counter
    No issue.

  • bought 4 MYER $100 gift card and $100 JB HIFI gift card and paid them separately by ING at BOX HILL big w this morning at self checkout counter, so no question asked.

    • Nice! I'll check out Box Hill later.

    • -2

I think from now on you can not use your ING anymore, unless you call them up

      • Why?

      • Fancy that

    • None in boxhill … all gift cards removed except their own … and they said SOLD OUT when I asked about the missing gift cards !!!!

  • Didn't work at the Penrith big w.

    • refer to my post above saneo…
Get the manager out, take your flyer,be polite and just ask for his/her name for the ACCC to contact on Monday.
Also ask the nanager to stand in front of the Gift Card stand holding the flyer with his finger pointing at the exclusions for a photo for the ACCC.
They could save all this disaster in Public Relations by just removing all the cards till Monday or leave it alone and add 1c to petrol for day or so and look like heroes.

  • this is so frustrating! I was only after less than $200 (not $10000!!!) worth of gift cards and got in early at 9.30am at Doncaster Big W and the staff just sheepishly said they have been instructed not to sell the card with 10% discount. I tried the sell check out and it didn't scan through. I challenged the staff and said it's clearly written the Myer and David Jones card were not excluded. But they couldn't do anything about it. Didn't want to argue with them as my toddler was pulling at my pants and crying for attention but I am just angry when I see other big W honouring the offer! Does complaining to ACCC really help? This is unfair!

    • Yes it does ST.
Ring the WW complaints line first thing Monday and tell them the facts.
I would be most surprised if they did not offer you a woolies voucher in compensation.
      http://www.woolworths.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/website/woolwor…
If get nowhere ring the ACCC.
Preferably ring the manager of the store today and get it official from him/her.
Some time ago I had an issue with the QAN everyday card…got nowhere until I really threatened them..
result refund of $89.00 fee for this year, no fee for next year plus $100 credit to cc.

  • Didn't work at Melbourne QV store, they had signs at the gift card area saying they were excluded, I didn't see them until the lady pointed them out when I was trying to show her that it wasn't on the exclusion list at self checkout. Could have probably pulled the manager out since I refunded stuff from rebels to save a bit more but thought it really wasn't worth the fight to save $15 from $150. Still got 5% discount from INGcard plus another 5% from purchasing the item again (effectively 10% all together) since they usually don't reverse the 5% discount given to you when u refund a product. Still annoyed at the fact I wasted my Saturday morning to try save a tiny bit of cash and I ended up not saving much at all. Might consider complaining to ACCC just to let out my internal rage.

    Has anyone tried at Epping?

    • Interesting that they put up the sign saying they're all excluded when theterms and conditions/exclusions at the bottom of the voucher do not say they are subject to change

  • Got $200 of jb vouchers. $50 psn voucher and some movie vouchers. No issues at all at Big W Brookside, Qld.

  • +1

I first went to the service desk with the cards and voucher at big w Liverpool and asked if this discount would work. She scanned it and it worked then I did some more shopping and self checkout with the cards.

The lady was a bit pissed at the manager saying to him on the phone a lady showed up with a voucher and the staff was not made aware of it and she wanted a printed copy so she could read the terms etc. her last comment was 'great today is going to be a busy day'

    :)

  • +1

i tried the compounded Westfield .. unfortunately it takes 24hrs to activate… so only 4% + 5% ING
