  • Cheap, no HDMI port?

    • no hdmi

      whack in a vga

is this the cheapest i3 in the country?

    • +1

no, although unless you want to pass through audio DVI should work fine

      Specs from site:

      Integrated Graphics Processor
      Multi-VGA output support : DVI/RGB ports
      - Supports DVI with max. resolution 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz
      - Supports RGB with max. resolution 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz

  • Got one last year from Cnet about $365 delivered, but 8G RAM + 1TB Hard Drive. Should had bought 2 back then…

That i3 was not this i3…

      • True, but probably last year his i3 performs similar ( back then ), to this i3 now. Unless that was already an older gen CPU last year, and this one is a major jump up. In all fairness, this one is a 4th gen with HD4400 graphics. With computer tech, your always chasing your tail though. Just need to get the best value tech when you need/want it.

      • You are right, didn't notice that.

I bought the i3-4130 and this one is i3-4150

Did a comparision on this website

And actually not much difference on paper!

Going by the OP's MSY prices if you assemble it yourself it's cheaper to just buy the parts but either way this is a pretty crappy PC, with a bit more could buy a decent laptop

You could answer that YES & NO. Before you rate the PC as pretty crappy, have checked the score of this 4th Gen i3 ? It scores a very respectable PassMark ( great CPU measuring tool ) score of 5062 http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i3-4150+%… Don't be fooled by the marketing, and think that most groups of Celeron/pentium/i3/i5.i7 etc are of similar performance. The low voltage and mobile chips are a lot slower than their cousins, the desktop high voltage CPU's. Also has decent HD 4400 onboard graphics with better performance than a low voltage mobile CPU with HD 4400.

Although this desktop computer is entry level ports wise ( lack of HDMI ), for people with a still good but older monitor or using an adaptor this is not an issue. It will display at 1080P x 1200. The performance of this machine is a lot more powerfull than laptops even double the price. For someone who has a good monitor, has operating system and is happy using a static computer on a desk, this kind of PC offers good bang for your buck, and a bit more flexible/upgradable to boot. You could even enjoy learning a bit too. Don't get me wrong, I love laptops, have too many myself and use them daily. Although there is a crossover, generally desktops and laptops are two differently used computers.

      pretty crappy PC

I game on my HTPC with an i3 2100 (admittedly with a HD7870) and it's great. Add in a semi decent video card and this could be a great little LAN box or even just a HTPC with something like a 6450 in it.

    • Yep, crappy pc for a crappy price. Sounds fitting.

  • I'm tempted to go for this as I have an old Dell GX620 that's over 10 years old. I only really use it to transfer things to and from the ipad and phones. Every now and then I do some basic photo editing.
Would this be a great improvement and last me another 10 years or so?
I would also like to start compiling some family home videos which the old Dell is very sluggish at anything video based.
