They were giving these away for free at my local Woolworths on Wednesday…. Well at least I think they were, we asked the girl whats the deal with the soccer balls and she said we could take one.

    • -3

there are some nice girls (uni students) working at Woolworths. LOL

  • is this a new flavour drink?

  • Plus just for the title.

  • Awesome, thanks OP. Just picked up two.

    • Decent Quality?

      • No, but ok for $2.

  • Thanks, picked up two as well.

Ticket price was $5 but scans at $2

Our woolies has the normal deal that was 6 pack of coke and ball $10. Now today it is $5 or the ball by itself $2.
    It was never worth $10.

Bargain. Went to my local new store (Seaford Meadows) … On the box was a sign $5 each but they scanned at $10. Asked the checkout chick who checked with someone else and was told "only $2 if u buy coke". Wasn't happy so she got the manager who put it though no problems! More farting around than I'd have liked but they'll make great dog toys :)

    • +4

If it scanned higher than the price displayed you should've received it for free under the scanning policy.

      • Aparantly that's not true. I had shit scanned wrong at wollies. They just changed the price for me. No freebie. I even asked the manager and made an issue out of it.

        • +3

It is true, and administered under the Scanning Code of Practice.

Although some stores, such as Woolworths Eastwood try and be dodgy and claim that it can only be given away for free after purchase, which by the way is not true in case anyone is wondering.

It is not necessary for the customer to have paid for the item or to have left the store to be entitled to receive the item free of charge.

Source: worked at Woolworths Eastwood a few years ago as a weekend supervisor and was told to be dodgy by the store manager.

        • It did occur to me I might be able to score a freebie, but when I scanned it on the self-serve to check the price before purchasing, the item description was "Coca-cola 10PK plus ball" or something similar - it mentioned the cans, so I'm sure they could argue I wasn't purchasing the "full product" (wasn't in the mood for the additional farting around just to save $2).

After work, I thought I'd try another store - similar story, A4 sign on the box "FIFA balls $5". Scanned at self-serve, and it came up as something like "Coca-cola FIFA ball" - $2 (no mention of the cans in the description). I find it interesting though that the same item at two different stores scans up differently … I thought they were all linked, unless they manage these one-off items themselves?!

Interestingly there was a story on The Checkout about the Scanning Code of Practice a few nights ago - where they highlighted exactly as ur2dads said above.

          @mrdevil:

Hi Mr. Devil, couldn't help but see that I'm not the only Ozbargainer in the Seaford Meadows Area. If we ever cross paths it is going to be a mighty battle! :D

        • @ur2dads:

In saying that, this isn't a standard line and is it the discretion of the supervisor and/or manager to honour it.

  • Do they have any soccer balls for sale?

    • +1

      Huh?

      • -3

        Sage understood me… see below

Stopped by at Woolworths Double Bay before heading home. Went to get two footballs, and at the checkout the lady told us that you could only get them if you bought some Coke. Showed her the deal on the Facebook page and she said just take 'em for free. Score!

    • That's goal! (or goalllllllllllllllllllllll if you're south American).

Also, I've yet to see a coke ad this world cup. Last time it was Wavin` Flag.

      • +2

        Actually, it's 'goooooollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.'

good value, just pumped it up, going for a kick with the kids

  • +2

picked up 2, one for the car and another for home :D
also found a totem tennis in mint cond on the way back home (council pick up in my area)
    activities galore at my place!

  • Australia Fair just put out a box (on request)- they are scanning up $2 despite staff suggestion that they aren't.

  • I hate woolies however this was a too good a deal..

So I went in and asked if they had any. First I was sent to isle 7 where they have some rubber balls, I then went back to the information counter this time I was told they had some for $2 each but they are near the deli counter.
Found them near the deli counter and grabbed 3 balls then told by a different person that they only come with the 6 pack of cans.

Bought 3 x 6 pack on cans @ $5 each. and left my balls in the trolley as I was told they are a bonus and went through self service..

Happy with the deal but the customer service is pathetic!!

    • That bites! I guess each Safeway (Woolworths) is different. I managed to find two that someone had put back in one of the aisles. I went through the self service but couldn't find a barcode. I was then given them at $2 each. Didn't have to buy any coke ;)

      • +1

When I said I left the balls in my trolley, I meant I didn't scan them but I took them home.

I am happy paying $5 with the coke. Thats 50c a can (6x 50c + $2 ball) which is the cheapest I seen in the last 5 years.

  • Picked up 2 today. There were none left, or so I thought. Disappointed, I continued to walk up and down the aisles thinking what might of been. Then I spotted two where the 1.25l Pepsi Max bottles were. Just sitting on the shelf. I picked up just one and then thought…..nope! I grabbed both! $4 well spent!

  • Still plenty in wenti w/w NSW

  • Looks like new stock was put out this week/weekend, when I went to a Woolworths yesterday, they had about 20-25 in the Clearance aisle. Today went back for some eggs & thought oh well, should probably grab one more and there were still 5 more left.
