Cheapest flights - Melbourne to London (return)

Hi - Looking for the cheapest return flights Melbourne to London, departing mid-July 2015 and returning mid to late August 2015? Any advice? I'm happy to pay up to 9 months in advance in order to secure "early bird " fares…………………

Flight MH370 or MH17 - which is cheaper?

Most airlines won't have these flights up yet.

In general it takes till 9 months out for them all to be available. Price then varies with deals, demand etc. You don't tend to get the best deals by booking at the earliest possible date, rather the price usual starts high, dips down, varies with sales vs time to go (eg if they aren't selling the price can drop), then rises again as you get close to the date.

Suggest www.kayak.com who have price charts (top left) that can give you a clue as to how prices are changing.

PS cheapest can mean going via china, changing planes a lot, and with questionable in flight service. Its not always best.

Any suggestions other than Malaysian Airlines? If bad luck comes in threes, I'd rather not be there for the 3rd event!

  • The cheapest is with airlines like Air Asia or China Southern/Eastern etc.. although Royal Brunei also has good deals. Like the person above has said, it's too far out. Keep an eye on skyscanner.com and search 'whole months' for both ways.

I also found it can be cheaper with a stopover in Thailand/Malaysia or similar or at the least the same price but you get the bonus of splitting up the trip and seeing an extra country on the way over.

    • Thanks for info

  • After some research I've discovered that the cheapest fare is with Air Mauritius, currently at a smidgeon under $1400 return
