2394 sold. Crazy. Imagine when it actually gets some games next year.

    • 2415 sold now, hope DSE have enough or negative feedback will be ready for them.

      • +2

2,430 sold . the counter is going off!! :) I'm the OP and i dont think i'm going to buy one… i would never use it apart from watching the odd 3D bluray every few months, Spend all my time playing Supreme commander 2

        • +1

I saw some buying 3-5 of them. I bought one after loooooooong thinking about it :P

        • WHOA. There's still people who play that awesome game? I've been waiting for Total Annihilation to go on sale before getting my strategy fix.

  • Tempting to buy an extra controller and charging station, but that's an extra $95.
People were saying the charging station is just for neat looking and save electricity (stop charging when full).
Anyone has suggestion whether to get them?

    • +3

looks neat and saves electricity, you answered your own question I think.

  • +1

    GOT IT!

    • +2

I think you were buyer number 2,456 lol

  • After checking the deal, eBay shows that "156 people bought this in the last hour"…

Not quite sure on the likelihood of any stock left. And I only bought a Wii-U not long ago :/

    • I have to agree, I doubt everyone will get one, at least not soon.

    • Next year probably… this is a special price involving a deal between ebay and dicksmith. This is the best price of the year for a brand new ps4 aus stock.

  • -1

maybe 350 although that is cost

  • Can I play 3d blu rays yet on this … Or US DVDs and Blu rays?

    • No 3d and only pal DVDs/blurays ( however some blu ray depending on the movie company are region free). edit: just found out it can play 3d disc with a new update ! :x

      • +1

3D with latest update patch .. Xbox one does 3D bluray too

    • +2

YES!!! .. 3D Bluray support came in with the last update!

  • which tv do you guys think?

I want one i can hook upto my PLEX/HP microserver and be able to hook up to US netflix (using a vpn/proxy)
i think 50" is a sweet spot when it comes to tv sizes
is 3D really important and nice to have? just incase 3d movies / games come out in the future to future proof??

  • Are Dick Smith going for a sales record award from Sony or something? They must have the highest numbers this season just from the two sales alone

    • +1

i agree!! :) Sony are going to be very happy with these sales numbers ,, more consoles = more games = more money for Sony… i guess they need it too as all their other tech divisions are not doing very well.

  • +13

    I regret getting my PS4 for $500 :-(

    • official price in US was $399, how did you end up paying that much?

      • RRP in Aus is $548…

  • Nice price!! Thanks!

  • +1

These will be flogging ebay very soon…

  • Just under 1400 of them sold now, still ticking along at a couple a minute on average.

The rush has slowed obviously but that's still impressive.

The XBOne titanfall pack sold out at 133 units, many of which were sold before today.

    • +1

1400 is the "second counter" .. the first counter reset after 3000 purchases , a few of us were keeping track of it earlier on today

  • Wow, so many of these sold. I jumped in as soon as the floodgates opened just before 10 and snagged one before it had even reach 100 sold since before the sale started. Will be very annoyed if my order is delayed in favour of these other orders….

  • +1

Dammit, was all set to get an Xbox One - but this price for a PS4. I don't know what to do! HELP!

    • +1

      Flip a coin :)

I own Xbone and PS4. I don't care which console I play as long as I enjoy the game.

  • What's another good reason to buy the PS4? I have an xbox one collecting dust since release- just buy it??

  • +2

it'll just gather dust. gonna pass

    • +6

      Cool.

      • +5

        Story.

        • +5

          Bro.

          Sweet combo :D

I never get tired of seeing the OzBargain community band together!

  • +8

i said i wasnt going ot buy it…. bought it

  • not really related to the topic, but any ideas about this HP Envy 23" all-in-one touch screen computer? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261510882531

    • +5

      Dear god no!

Low power, dual core CPU, miserable old 5400rpm HDD, puny graphics, and difficult or impossible to upgrade many components.

      Absolute ripoff imo.

  • +2

Picked up one today, I had $150 in JB HiFi Vouchers I received from cokerewards.com.au that I was planning to put towards a console but now I can use towards games or an extra controller

  • I just picked up a PS4, just wondering how long it will take to deliver! Got my qantas points with it! Score!

    • It was during checkout that I remembered the Qantas Mall eBay deal. I tried to go back but decided it was all too hard, still I got Qantas points on my credit card anyway

^ this could be the reason for the sale. Clearing out stock for the 1tb PS4 coming this Spring

    • They've done this sale so many times already that it's just a coincidence.

      • How often do they have this sale? I might get one next time pending ppl's experiences of this sale. Will be interesting to see how many people will be put on backorder. 1715 sold in the last 24hrs, I wonder if they actually have that many in stock

        • +1

It's happened at least 3-4 times in the last couple months.

  • How are eBay able to make this offer? What are they getting out of it?

    • +2

      Sales

      • Dick Smith sells a PS4 for $500, getting $400 from the customer and $100 from eBay. Is this correct? If so, how are eBay making any money on each PS4 sale?

        • Correct. In this case, eBay don't need to turn a profit. This is advertising 2.0, where everyone's a winner!
          See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loss_leader

        • @muncan:
I understand that they get good advertising from this but still… seems like rather costly advertising if this is indeed there aim.

        • It's also advertising PayPal. I'm sure they've had a lot of new members join since they started running these campaigns which are only valid if you pay via PayPal.

        • +1

@Oatmeal: LOL 2~3 Million $ in Advertising spends over couple of months for ebay is pocket change. They make that much money in couple of weeks by all the commission.

Samsung spent like over 5M $ in Australia alone for a single phone S5 Marketing costs

And ya if Ebay teams up with DSE and sends Sony a cheque of couple of Million $ advance payment for 5000 PS4 @ 400$ each I am sure Sony will say welcome. Thats a lot of revenue for a week's sale for even Sony's PS Department. :P

        • @Oatmeal: I suspect that eBay in the long run wants to become a kind of default 'shopfront' for the big retailers, so they will probably lose money in the short term in the hope of gaining far more back in the long run through commissions.

  • +5

There's going to be a lot of disappointing customers. No way DSE have that many ps4 in stock.

    • I ordered one and will be awaiting the 'out of stock' e-mail sometime tomorrow. Worth a shot :)

    • :) haha lets hope they order more stock!

    • you are the boss of dick smith?

      • -3

No, I am not. I doubt they have nearly 2000 ps4 to send to everyone. Goodluck though as I got one from the first ebay sale

        • I'm fairly confident Dick Smith would have an agreement in place with Sony, securing the required amount of units. After all, getting the console into customer homes is the hard part. Once it's in, Sony can sell the software pretty easily. Win win for both companies (and eBay and PayPal).

        • Why not? On launch they were able to get themselves an extra 300 consoles to sell on the day to those that didn't preorder. And now here we are in a time where PS4's are more freely available.

  • +1

I stuck to my saving mode for the first sale, but the temptation was too much second time around!

Although, I just realised the system accepted my PO Box address but the info page says they don't delivery to PO Boxes. This will be interesting trying to deal with them to change it…

  • I bought one and a couple of cheap Vita games too. Transaction appears in my PayPal account as saying paid etc, but money hasn't come out of my bank account - is this usual for these DSE/eBay sales? Do they charge on delivery?

  • If you count the previous sales counter before they reset it

The total number of consoles dick smith has sold today is 4816 PS4's As of writing this at 8:10pm
At $100 off the standard price of $499 thats a saving of $481.600 dollars that stayed in all our pockets LOL Well done to everyone who purchased one. ozbargain'ers came out in force for todays sale!

  • +1

Cheap TLOU, brand new and sealed.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181497968479?ssPageName=STRK:MEWN…

    Accepted an offer of $43.80.

    • Not worth it, UK version vs Aus version. Aussie always worth more 2nd hand.

      • Seller told me that it was the local Australian version.

  • +2

At this time, 8.20pm 1,835 PS4's have been sold since 10am, equating at RRP ($550) that $1,009,250 dollars worth of PS4's have been sold. Minus the $50 discount DSE applied before the 20% discount came out, $917,000 worth of PS4's at Dick Smith price before the ebay code. 20% of $917,000 is $183,000 worth of ebay rebates to Dick Smith which is a hella costly promotion just for PS4s not including the TV's, Headphones, Smartphones, games and accessories that are also being sold. My guess is at the end of the promotion on Thursday ebay will spending $300,000 plus or more on this promotion.

    • Don't forget the eBay counter reset at 3,000

      • I took the number from the sold in the last 24 hours counter, not the sold since listing started counter which was at around 1400 before this sale began. If sold in the last counter also resets, feel free to correct me.

        • I'd like to know this too, either way it's an impressive number of PS4's

  • I wonder if anyone found this PS4 on eBay and paid the full $499 not realising there was a promotion? as it's not advertised on the page

    • -1

Probably!!! :) Happens all the time.. Some people out there even pay full drive away prices for cars and feel happy when they get a free set of $80 mats!! FREE lol .. i walk into a dealer and get $6000 off the drive away price FREE mats, tinting, it all comes down to the person.. if you dont know you could of saved something you will never care.

      • I will pay you 50 bucks for every 1000 bucks you help me to save on my next car purchase~;) No kidding btw…I know it's possible, but I just don't have the skill.

        • use a company like carbroker.com.au
to get you the best price on the car model you want..

No obligation free prices they get a commision of around $250-600 if you buy the car at the price they supplied you.. THEY do get close to rock bottom so its not a bad idea at all… another tip is look on carsales.com.au for the cheapest pricing for the model car you want and ask whatever dealer you go to to price match and toss in extra's like tint, mats, ext.

Have your mobile phone with you with the link of the price on carsales to prove it.. if they dont want to know about it then call the number on the ADD and go buy it from "THAT" dealer!

      • Yeh same here I got ~10k off my Mercedes AMG E class and loads of extra goodies :).

  • +4

I already bought one in the last sale… yet strangely I feel like I'm missing out by not buying something :S

    • -2

Tomtom Go 500 .. $160.. 20% off cheapest price ever!

I'm not buying anything lol and i posted the deal haha I am very tempted though… will be collecting dust if i do buy it.

      • I can only see the Go 600 on the ebay store… ?

        • probably sold out

    • I tried a PS4 last weekend at a friends place, played Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs and Infamous Second Son. Not really interested as all the multi-platform titles I can get for cheaper on PC (Except Ubi titles, don't like their PC versions). I am more interested in an Xbox One for Halo MCC & Forza Horizon 2, but am not knowing whether to bite the bullet and buy one or both next time a good promotion comes up closer to Xmas with more games available such as The Crew and AC:Unity which I will only play on console. Will definitely get a PS4 when Uncharted 4 launches though.

      • during xmes prices will probably be not so good! as people are buying them regardless of sales

  • What if I want to add a warranty to the PS4?

  • Why dicksmith dont have wii u. =( Already have ps4 and dont think xbox one exclusive games are very interesting.

    • They cleared out the Wii U consoles last September. The basic console was ~$177.

  • Is it possible to pay with a credit card, without going through Paypal? My Paypal account was created in another country, so the code won't work, and it's not letting me choose a different payment method. :(

    • pay pal usually lets you pay as a guest, in which case you use a credit card and don't credit an account.

  • -6

ps 4 lifecycle will be shorter, won't be surprised to see ps 5 preview by 2016

    • +1

Source? Or you have a crystal ball?

      • he must have a crystal ball… but it's cracked…. from when it landed on his head. readings can therefore be off by a considerable margin.

    • +4

That is dumbest thing I have heard today, congratulations.
