      ps 4 launched in nov 2013, by nov 2016, it would be 3 years out of possible 5, very likely rumors on 'next-gen' specs start to circulate.

      IMO, I am very certain the next platform will be x86 AMD again which means PS 4 library, will be fully compatible on the PS 5, which makes transitioning even easier than before. The launch price will remain the same again, and gamers will treat buying the new consoles like buying the next iPhone.

      2 I said 'I won't be surprised', I did not say that it WOULD HAPPEN, though why I hope these consoles get a faster refresh:

      the Jaguar 8 core and Radeon 7850 is subpar compared to how the PC platform is developing at a fast pace. Sure there is the low level API enjoyed by consoles, but DX 12 will close this gap once and for all.

      the market is pushing onto UHD at an incredible pace and AMD/Nvidia GPU's will have capable cards by 2015, while PS 4/Xbone GPU's will be struggling as they were meant for 720p - 1080p gaming.

      3 Stop being sour and enjoy your $399 consoles.

          No it's not. The really big games don't come out til late 2015. Why would Sony shoot themselves in the back? The most likely scenario would be a 1TB SKU by 2015-16.

          if they maintain backwards compatibility by sticking with AMD platform, Sony can still sell these games on the PS 5 as well. Sony pushing all these content into downloadable format will make the transitioning easier than ever.

          PC platform has been incredibly robust for Windows gamers for many generations, we could still play games from 1990 on a windows 8 machine.

          Android and IOS has no issues selling multitudes of their hardware and still maintain game/app compatibility.

          I am sure consoles will face no issue if they stick to the same infrastructure.

          You console lovers just hate evolving huh?

          why the f**k would they hint at a release of the PS5 only 3 years into it's lifecycle and when all the big games start coming out. i can see a slim ps4 in 2016 but no chance of anything detailing next ps.

          Markets have evolved. It is easier to sell a mid range machine en masse for $399 rather than the PS 3 which debuted at a whooping $999 to have that big of a life cycle.

          why the online platform is attractive to Sony -

          • cheaper for game devs which leads to more competitively priced games
          • Sony gets a cut from game sales
          • easier to control piracy
          • console gamers could download their library from anywhere in the world and not having to carry bags of blu ray discs.

          why does it matter if Sony announces PS 5 with 100% full backwards compatibility?

          Blizzard never stopped me from playing Warcraft 2 on my Intel i7 PC, so why are console gamers so stuck up on playing their AAA titles only on one model/generation of their console?

          Most of the comments in this article all have similar views, so why can't the haters here? T_T

    I got Xbox one at $459.16 with the code. (Already have ps4). But PayPal charged me full price of $583.95.
    Is this normal or is there a problem?
    eBay invoice shows up as $459.16 but why did I get charged full price?

      I have the paypal app, and when I paid with the discount I made sure it said $399.20 before I paid, then after payment the paypal app sent me a notification that I'd paid $499.00 to dicksmithonline, so I panicked a little ;) but then when I checked my bank the pending transaction was only for the $399.20. Happy days!

    anyone not received their order on the Eneloop Deal earlier this month?

    I sent two emails to DS online to inquire about it and;

    1st email received didn't answer my question, just said

    Hi XXXXX,

    I followed it up by sending another email to address the issued and that came back with;

    How pathetic are their online team? Can't they even read my email?? TWICE have they not address my issue!

    I haven't heard anything good about Dick's delivery through Star track. Has anyone had any weird issues with them? How long do they take to deliver after Shipping?
    I wouldn't be home and I am assuming they'd have a local depot in Sydney.
    Any info would help. Thanks guys.

      I bought something off Dick Smith a few weeks ago. Delivery was pretty quick, dispatched after 2 days and attempted delivery the next day. They sourced the stock from a store near me though so it will depend where it is being shipped from.

      Star Track don't do redeliveries as far as I'm aware so you will be stuck picking it up from wherever your closest depot is. Not sure about NSW but in QLD there was only one in Brisbane and one on the Gold Coast so good luck.

      I recently bought a dash camera from them on a Sunday night and received it on the Wednesday. It had been sent from a Canberra store and sent to my work at Nowra, so that I knew someone would be able to receive and sign for it.

    Ordered one yesterday at 10.01am and another this afternoon. An hour or so later got an email from Dick Smith saying my order had been 'picked' and would be sent today. Had an invoice attached but not correlation to the eBay transaction so assume it was for yesterday's order but can't be sure they are not processing LIFO.

    No tracking number either, so hopefully that comes later. Shipping is via StarTrack Air (Formerly AAE), which is good because if you aren't home, it get's carded and taken to your nearest Post Shop. For some reason, things that go via StarTrack Road go back to the depot. DSE seem to use both services.

    I'm having mine shipped to an AusPost parcel locker anyway, which means I will get it the same day it's delivered as I can collect after work.

    Does anyone know if Star Track will leave the PS4 at the Post Office? Or at the depot? I'm an hour away from Tullermarine in Vic.

    Also thinking about getting a TV too, what are the chances they leave it at my local PO given I'll be at work all week.

      Star Track always leave my dse purchases at the local post office. You have a certain amount of days to claim your items from the post office, it's usually over a week. Just check on the card when you receive it. Most post offices are open on Saturday and Sunday mornings too.

          They tend to ship the larger items to a major distribution centre if no one is available to collect. Had to travel an extra 20 mins to collect an imac recently in vic. It was an aust post outlet but a large business one in the south east burbs. Most smaller ones are at the local post office.

      Buying from DSE is a hit and miss. You get your items delivered then lucky you. If not it will be a nightmare to contact their 1300 customer services to either get your order delivered or get a refund. Today I just lodged a complaint with Consumer Protection because I called the DSE online support the guy on the phone said: "just lodge a complaint if you want to, your have your right to do so.". I said:" sure I will but before that I would like to complain about you can you please let me talk to your manager or supervisor?" The guy ported me to a voice message. LOL…

          I think their online centre is in Western Sydney, which is probably why it arrived so fast.

          Do you have an account on the Dick Smith website? I logged into mine and it's showing both my eBay orders but with a status of "Awaiting fulfilment", even though I got my invoice yesterday and the email said it would be shipped same day.

Other items I purchased ie controller and fifa14 haven't arrived yet, even though I received a confirmation email yesterday telling me they were picked and shipped…go figure.     I ordered within the first ~5mins of the sale.

    Just an update - I ordered my PS4 at 10.01am on Sunday morning and it just arrived at my work as well (North Sydney area). Didnt even get a notification that it was going to be delivered or the invoice emailed to my account.

    Looks like they might just be smashing out the orders as fast as possible to make sure they can fulfill them quickly.

    I ordered a PS4 at 10:24AM, I have not received any notification or invoice from Dick Smith apart from the payment confirmation from eBay/PayPal. By the looks of it, this might be a common occurrence.

    My housemate also ordered one at 10:25AM however with a different address (Work Address). No notification/invoice either.

    No sign of the PS4's as of yet (Which is fine since it's only been 2 Days). Thought this info might be worthwhile to people awaiting delivery near Brisbane CBD (Northern Suburbs). I'll provide an update if they happen to arrive at either address.

    I just received my PS4, I'm in Perth and it arrived by courier simply in it's PS4 Box…lucky I was home. I ordered mine on Sunday afternoon 5 hours into the sale, eBay still shows it as unsent so you can't rely on that

    I placed my order on Sunday 17/08/2014 at 10.14AM and it has just arrived and I live in Western Sydney. Postcode 2760 (Penrith Area)

    I originally purchased 2 items on the Saturday direct from their website (not Ebay) a Sony Soundbar and a $10 cheapo USB (I was being charged $10 shipping anyways so getting a USB at the same price which includes free shipping was a no brainer)

    The PS4 and USB arrived but not the soundbar yet.

    I am shocked that there was no packaging or plastic to safeguard the PS4. The courier was a nondescript white van (Contractor most likely)

    I just signed for it at 1PM this afternoon. Overall very happy with the prompt shipping considering the avalanche of orders.

    Also there was no email confirmation or tracking number, nothing to on Ebay to indicate it had been shipped. Figured they'd be inundated to actually update it.

    Got mine and game, no bubble wrap or anything around the PS4 like others have said, though the same thing happened with the original 3DS.
    Prior to receiving all I had was a tracking associated with the game I ordered.

    just had my PS4 Eye Camera delivered, still no notifcation of the second controller.

    I did note on the Startrack web site that the item was picked up from Narre Warren (so I'm guessing from the DSE store at Fountain Gate, then delivered to me.) So I'm guessing stores are clearing out stock as well.

    Just received my PS4 as well on the Central Coast, NSW after ordering at 10:02.

    Mine did arrive in a non-descript white plastic parcel bag, maybe I was lucky, or maybe because it's bucketing down here they had some sense? Either way happy gaming for this weekend!
