        • Yeah, this is turning out to be another survey/questionnaire with choosing a topic then a sub topic, nothing really appropriate.

        • @endotherm:

I chose Subscription i think. Would'nt really matter as they would now be 'ozbargained' and everyone will know about it

        • I chose: Report. In 10 minutes they added $5 USD into my paypal as a "correction", and notified me of this.

  • Wonder if they gonna honour every single claim. As this requires just an easy phone call or email, no doubt broden shall reclaim the kingdom again

  • +12

    Hi guys.

Just called PayPal on 02 8223 9500 option 1 (to look up account), last 4 digits of credit card (for verification), then option 2. Went straight through to an operator in Arizona.

As soon as I mentioned the $5 survey, she knew what I was on about. She said emails were meant to go out, but due to a system glitch, people weren't receiving them, and they've received heaps of complaints. Anyway, she kindly offered to immediately credit my account with $5. Took all of 2 minutes from start of call, to credit in account.

Others have reported receiving USD $5 (AUD $5.38), but I'm not going to get precious over $0.38.

Seems a quick call or email will get you the credit. Good luck.

    • +1

That's pretty good if the account is being credited, as this was only supposed to be a coupon code to use! Wonder if there's somehow still an expiry date to use it?

      • Hi snoop.

I asked her that very question re expiry, and she just said use it whenever you like. Screenshot suggests no expiry either. Just a pity we (may) need to call or email, but still kudos to PayPal for coming good on the $5

    • Thanks TA. calling them worked to get the $5 AUD Credit. I was told straight away on the phone that it is a targeted offer. They said they will honor it for me as a once off. So it might be a hit or a miss when you call.

  • +5

I think they realized that alot more people did this survey than first thought and deliberately didn't send out emails

  • Got it, just submitted an email and 10 mins later $$.
so can this be used on ebay at all?

    • Can be used anywhere in which PayPal is accepted, so yes.

    • Hi cdaddy. Quick question, did you get credited $5.00, or $5.38?

      • $5:38

        • +2

Well done! I only scored AUD $5.00 :(

        • +1

@tightarse: When i emailed them, i specifically said "$5 USD" so not sure if thats what did it

        • @cdaddy:
Must have. I should have stated USD as well. Can't win them all :)

    • +1

The credit is for $5 USD.
So I had to do a conversion from USD into AUD in my PayPal account before I could use it on ebay, as the ebay store I was buying from took AUD.

  • +16

"I am pleased to inform you that I have already credited USD $5.00 to your PayPal account." Sent them an email under Sending/Receiving Money > Coupon/Redemption Code. Cheers.

    • Thanks porleng. I've edited the post and linked to your comment so others are aware.

    • Thanks, worked for me.

      Response was within minutes.

    • Thanks, took a few seconds to write on the phone and $5USD credited minutes later.

    • +2

This didn't work for me. This is the response I got from Paypal:

      Dear [First Name] [Last Name],

      Thank you for contacting PayPal.

We appreciate your effort in participating to this marketing campaign: USD$5 Promotion Survey.

Our Marketing team has confirmed that this promotion is only offered to PayPal accounts in Central America as such, we are unable to issue a credit to your PayPal account.

      We apologize for the confusion.

      Thank you for choosing PayPal.

      Sincerely,
      Renato
      PayPal

      Bummer :(

  • Got my $5.38 AUD in 10 mins after sending an email as porleng suggested above…

  • +2

looks like the dollar dropped. I just got credit for $5.30. Thanks porleng for telling us which option to use.

    • +1

The dollar dropping should have favoured you. Refer kcy's comment below ($5.57)

  • When I emailed them, they said that the survey was not legitimate and they would escalate the issue for their own investigation. Figure that!!

Seeing so many OzBargainers managed to get credit for it, I decided to ring them and after 10 mins on the phone, they give me a credit. I don't know why, but I was credited $5.57 (probably exchange rate).

So good luck guys! Keep trying!

  • +1

I can't remember what topic option I chose now, but it literally took half a dozen emails to and fro to convince them of the survey, they seemed to have no idea. They thought I was talking about the CELEBRATE15 ebay code at one point. I obviously got the wrong department, but eventually $5.38 came through. Not sure it was worth all the grief for just $5… Yes it was.

    • +26

Tip: Login to your Paypal first.
Go to Contact and Choose Email Us.

Then use the following top and sub topic:

      Topic: 'Sending/Receiving Money'
      Sub Topic: 'Coupon/Redemption Code'

For your description say something along the lines of:
Hi, 1 week ago there was a USD$5 Promotion Survey which said USD$5 will be sent to me 1 week from completion of the survey. I haven't received the USD$5 for this promotion survey, can you please check?

Then send it, and wait around 10 min for a reply, bam free money. Shouldn't be harder than that.

      • Followed your steps and bam free money indeed. Too bad I did this after I bought everything I had intended to on ebay…

        • Haha, just withdraw the money to your bank account and then spend it elsewhere.

      • Thanks, just bought my Graphics Card for AU$389 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/161383) and was expecting to see the USD$5 and there was nothing. I had to go through with the payment anyway due to the midnight deadline but it would have been good to have credited in the account beforehand.

      • +1

Cheers Iplau , received my $5usd after following your lead.

I copied/pasted your message, couldn't be stuffed composing my own.

  • Confirmed. Just got my USD5 (AUD5.38 converted using PayPal's convertor) 10 mins after sending an email as porleng suggested above…

  • $5.38 for me too

    jipped by 19c!! D:

  • +2

Thanks for the update just emailed them and within five minutes they credited me $5us ($5.38au)

Didn't call as I'm sitting on a beach in Lombok

  • +2

    Here's the response I received:
We have received reports about customers who are supposed to get USD $5.00 upon completing a survey form on the website, www.paypal-activate.com.
This has been forwarded to our Marketing Team to check why the credit has not been posted yet on the customer's PayPal account. We're yet to receive a feedback from them regarding this matter.
As a workaround, I requested to credit your PayPal account for USD $5.00 which you can use for your next payment/transaction. You may login to your PayPal account to see this credit.

  • Got free money after emailing them. Thanks

  • +1

Brilliant. Just want to confirm that emailing them worked. Processing took less than 5 minutes for me. Cheers!

  • This plus the targeted free $10 = Sweet

  • I e-mailed 2 hours ago.

    Auto response then zippo.

    • How long did it take?

      • I mean zippo, nowt, nada.
Still nothing, not even a reply.

  • -3

anyone got it yet? would come in handy today…

Edit: i read the above steps and fired 6 emails off plus asking for the cthanks…let's see what happens.

    • My credit came about 20 minutes after firing off the email to them.

      • Sent an email still nothing after like an hour and a half.

        • May be easier to call. It'll be sorted in 2 minutes.

    • Mine was sorted 3 minutes after I sent an email.

Ended up with $5.41! Not sure if the AUD went down in the last few hours :P

    • It has been fluctuating alot lately.

  • Just got my money after sending the email last night. Thnx for the tip

    • Same here for both mine and my wife's account ($5.39). Thanks guys,

    • Got email from them today 11.45am AEST that they would credit me the US$5.

    • Same for me also. Appreciate the advice and instructions given here.

I filled out your stupid survey now its your turn…..

    • Did you use Contact Us or Email Us. The people that used Email Us had the credit within 10mins (myself included) and it looks like that's what PayPal are getting you to do.

      • -2

Yes I did, I just got this response.

        Thank you for contacting PayPal.

We appreciate the time you have spent answering the survey however we are unable to credit the account with $5.00 USD or issue any voucher for the same amount as the promotion is only for PayPal Central America members.

We appreciate your understanding on this matter and we will surely inform our marketing team with your interest in participating for promotional campaign.

        Thank you for choosing PayPal.

The promotion is not open to Australians and thus gets a neg from me because its on ozbargain

        • +2

what a shitty response, they are a huge company and rake in huge profits im sure it wouldn't hurt them to honor this and maintain good customer relations, especially since they have done for some users here!

        • Got exactly the same response.

        • I got the same email as well. Pretty disappointing really, especially since there was nothing on the website that I could tell to suggest that it was only open to certain account holders. Pretty poor form to be honest.

        • Same here. Lame.

  • e-mail sent this morning and only got auto-acknowledgement. Nothing else!

  • +1

I'm surprised it's taking so long for them to ascertain whether Australian customers are entitled or not. If not just delaying tactics due to some T&C stuff up, I'm even more surprised they would pay us out in advance. It takes at least some effort (~1 minute?) to have someone read an e-mail, reply and credit an account so I suppose few of us made the effort to complain. Perhaps this is a social experiment :) OzBargainers never forget…

I though I read somewhere you had to spend $6 in a single transaction but this turned out even better. We received $5 USD in free cash after all this. Wait until the AUD crashes even further before converting to make 5 cents more :)

    • +1

$10.78 AUD lol i have two paypal accounts

  • +1

man.. they literally took my interview over phone before giving me USD5!!! I sent an email yesterday..no response..then just 30min ago called them and they took my interview and they pretended they knew nothing about such promo. asking me when did i do, what were the questions, how did i know the promo..bla bla bla…OMG!

Thank god i took several screen shots during the survey and explain those things then they get convinced and gave me USD5. Holly Coooow!!!

So guys call them NOW regardless of e-mail if you wanna use it with 15% ebay discounts which ends tonight. Hurry.

  • sent an email, wonder how long it will take for response..

  • Thanks ! I got my money :)

Just a quick question. Can the $5.39 be used anytime or is there a deadline ?

    • seems no deadline as its a credit in the a/c. But 30th September would have been the deadline according to T&C if it was a coupon. We were supposed to receive the coupon by e-mails but probably something wrong happened with their system and now they are giving USD5 upon requests either by email or phones. phone works as the quickest.

  • -1

Haven't received the credit yet, anyone else received it

    • +3

Are you too stupid to not read the pages of posts above yours, or are you just trolling?

      • -2

Yup my mistake i did not come down to the last page to read up the comments. Will be more careful next time, but i am sure it wouldnt help for you to be more courteous in future. People do make mistakes you dont have to be rude about it!

        • +3

It's just that there are lots of people asking the same dumb question, without bothering to read at least one or two posts above theirs which answers the question.

        • +1

          @joshmachine:

Or just read the main post itself. It's been updated with simple instructions.

  • +10

Sent them an email last night, and received the $5 this morning. Deposited the $5 into Sportsbet, and turned it into $50. Bought The Last of Us Remastered for $44.20 (PS4) on Ebay after the 15% discount.

    • +7

Skould have kept on going with the re-investments. "…and after purchasing a small Pacific Island for my dog I decided to become majority owner of PayPal after checking back on OzBargain for memories' sake".

  • Just call them.

If you call them now, they will say the offer was meant to be targeted but they will honor it for now. $5 AUD was just put into my paypal account.

  • +3

    Just got this from PayPal,

    Thank you for contacting PayPal.

We appreciate your effort in participating to this marketing campaign: USD$5 Promotion Survey.

Our Marketing team has confirmed that this promotion is only offered to PayPal accounts in Central America as such, we are unable to issue a credit to your PayPal account.

    We apologize for the confusion.

    Thank you for choosing PayPal.

    • Got the same BS response in my email just now too.

  • +3

Hey guys I'll just post my experience here in case anybody is in a similar situation as mine.

My Paypal account was registered in Malaysia (I assumed most people here are registered in AU) and I did send an email to them using "email us" in the log in page. It took more than 1 day for them to reply in my case (email receive <1 hour ago), and I also got my USD 5, so I guess this offer should be a global one.

Some commented that they received a reply that this is a regional promotion, I guess this ultimately depends on the operator who processed your request?

  • Just got -ve response from Paypal US as well.

  • So no surprise…. as i didn't received a response to my email, I followed it up with a call. I Received a line of BS that this promo didn't exist blah blah. They wouldn't budge.

Couldnt stand listening to a dishonest operator with a long drawn out drawl, so I gave up.

  • I assume those that cashed in early like myself (that aren't Central American) don't need to pay it back? If so, me gusta! If not, ayayay me no gusta.

    • Yeah, I'm waiting for that email to come one day!

  • -2

Weird, does anyone know how PayPal balance works when making a purchase? Just made one but it didn't take from the accounts funds first when considering the cost? Or does anyone know if there are fees involved with withdrawal from PayPal to Bank? Looking up stuff online wasn't too clear, thanks!

EDIT: oooh, I think it's because I didn't change the currency beforehand doh! Use the currency converter to do that (where you see your balance)

    • +1

^ Obviously didn't do the tutorial properly otherwise you would've known :P

  • +1

Damn, those who emailed/called early and got their $5 are lucky! So jelly :(

  • oh no, looks like its too late to get it?
    darn iit

    • -1

did survey for nothing, can this be fraud?

      • +1

Technically it could be fraud for those of us that have claimed it!
But it would cost them more than $5 each to chase it up!

  • +2

I read through the T&C's and there was no mention of this being for American paypal users only.
