Hi OzBargainers,

I'm a young business owner from Brisbane launching my new business concept early 2015. Running a promotion to help gain reputation, build the Facebook page up. The Protein Club is a subscription service for health supplements. I have spent several months working on it, and I believe its time to offer consumers some Whey WPC Protein Samples.

The Protein Club only works with Australian Manufacturers and Brands. I appreciate any feedback on the concept, ideas and suggestions. The samples will be shipped after New Year. One sample = one serve.

      When we launch, the monthly pricing will be available on our website! We don't operate like a traditional retail/online supplement store. We're a Protein Subscription Service.

      "Protein Club" conjures up images of sweaty, oily men relaxing in their club house after pumping iron. Swapping stories about slaying dragons, massaging each other's aching muscles and sharing their protein. No damsels allowed.

    Keep it simple OP and you'll build a following:
    * No bro-science. We know what protein is and isn't.
    * truth on the label (learn from the NoBull fiasco: lying to your customers will only hurt you).

    A big click from me but as a Brisbanite I don't need a sample to try you out: I'll watch your launch and if you offer value I'll get our buying group on board. Good luck!

      Wasn't the no bull fiasco not about mis-labelling, but poor protein from upstream suppliers? It sucks that this happened, but this is something you address through testing regularly.

      I've recently got some NBS protein tested through BN's program and it came out fine. (I should publish my results somewhere, I tested NBS, TP, BN and ON (as a control)). Granted NMI's testing uses the Nitrogen method which is prone to spiking bias.

        I bought some protein from NoBull serveral years ago and I had some left over which I completely forgot about. When I heard the news, I requested a testing kit from BulkNutrients and tested the NoBull protein. No surprise, the protein came out to how level levels of protein content.

        I emailed them and they replied with a generic email which didn't even answer my question directly

        I wouldn't trust buying from NoBull after what has happened. They weren't forthcoming and continued to lie, blaming their suppliers.

        I recommend BulkNutrients. They're cheap and have been around for some time now.

    Also, will you be getting your protein tested for purity? There was previously issues with other local protein suppliers.

    Going to be tough given the competitive local prices for protein. I guess the hardest part would be locking people in to a "subscription" especially being a new business. Surely you could slip is your pricing scheme? There's a lot of people on here who will tell you whether you're on target or dreamin' and would make for some good market analysis.

    If your prices are cheaper than Bulk Powders and your product is as good (quality) and tastes as good, I will give it a go. If it is dearer I have no reason too.

    Great business idea OP. The protein/supplements industry is still yet to mature IMO and there is plenty of scope for a subscription based service. As long as your prices are reasonable, quality is high and consistent and delivery methods are reliable and timely you have a chance at success.

    There are no major competitors for this type of business in Australia ATM, so make sure you do plenty of research and don't hold back on the initial marketing spend.

    Honestly a protein subscription based company, not really something I'd want to get myself into. If I run out of protein, then I'd just order some more 1 week in advance at any bulk online store before I run out.

    How does subscription work anyway? I pay $100 monthly and you just send 3kg of protein every month regardless if I ran out of protein or not?

      You've just given me an idea for a rival company. I'll call it Force-Fed Protein. My motto can be "shut up and take your protein". The serving sizes will be suspiciously high, but just shut up already.

        LOL. I mean I love protein shakes and all but just sometimes I don't take them especially if I got heaps of beef/chicken/alternative real food protein on the menu for the day.

        So my protein doesn't always end up finished on the same time every time.

        So I'm still not quite sure how this protein club works. Anyone who cares to explain would be much appreciated.

      $10 a kg … let me guess, you want express postage included, as well as samples in every order and someone on hand to mix your protein shake for you, all for $10.

      Oh, and 25kg a month. Are you living in a sharehouse with 20 other bodybuilders ? What are you planning to do with 800g of protein per day. That's like 26 average protein shakes, per day.

    I think its a good idea however as others have pointed out you will have to offer a compelling case for prospective customers to commit to buying like this: essentially high quality product, smooth delivery experiences and at a lower price. Oh and look after any unhappy customers - that really makes my day.

    Judging merely from the discounts offered to high volume purchasers this ought to be possible and could enable lower volume purchasers on a subscription to pay the same price per kg.

    If I try your service you will be competing against Bulk Nutrients for my dollars. They aren't always cheapest however they're always the same quality, always deliver on time and you would not believe how much free stuff they sent me when I had a bag split. The way this happened was I put instructions to wrap the same item properly since it had split the previous delivery: result was proper packaging and a whole lot of free stuff to make up for it even though I hadn't requested a refund or replacement. I like them.

    However since I always buy protein at regular intervals the concept is attractive to me as a customer so good luck.

    It sounds like false advertising in the logo, at least the "we shake it" part. I am dubious about a shaking service being available.
