Is there a bargain for Office 365 home or personal around?

Not sure "Buy" is the appropriate word to use for Office 365, since there is no way you can actually purchase it. As it is a one-year license, "Rent" seems more appropriate. Or perhaps "Buy a 1-year license to use Office 365"?

I'm sure lots of people get bitten by this deception. All previous (non-corporate) versions of Office were an outright purchase, which could be used forever. I bought a 3-license pack of Office 2010, in 2012, for $120. That's $40 per perpetual license, and it wasn't a special price either.

Microsoft do still have a version of Office that you can purchase outright, Office 2013, and it's available in lots of places for about $120. Search on Staticice for "79G-03767", which is the MS product code. It doesn't have some of the "accessories" that come with Office 365 - Outlook, Access, Publisher, OneDrive and Skype are missing. Some of those are available for free anyway, no need to purchase Office 365 to get them.

I recommend people to buy Office 2013 while you can, if you need a copy of Microsoft Office. I suspect it will be the last version of Office that has a perpetual license.

    • Office365 is more then just "office apps" for your desktop. If you get "Home" edition You have rights to add 5 users and 5 devices; you also get 1TB one drive storage + Skype credits (i think)
I think o365 would be more compelling if they bundled in windows OS.

but yeh if your just after Office app for desktop, then purchase the boxed version.
