Old cans. Pay extra and get the qc20 (which you can easily sleep with cause they are buds) or the qc25 (which are newer, and work even if the battery is dead)
How much extra?
Well if you were in the market for QC20's, plenty of people jumped on this deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/174568 - i picked some up for $224 although it sounded like a pricing error.
The QC20's and QC25's RRP are $399 - Myer, DJs and (DIck Smith owned) Move stores often have percentage off sales on bose headphones - usually 10%. Sometimes 15%. Bose stores themselves will price match a competitor
The QC3 will stop working altogether when the battery runs out. The newer ones don't. Videopro themselves are selling the QC20's for only $60 more - well worth the extra IMHO. The great things about the buds is that they work superbly and you can easily sleep on a flight with them in your ears - sleeping in headphones may be a little harder.
But then again if you need on ear headphones with the best NC tech - this is your best bet.
In ears, on ears, over ears, funny ears, big ears, droopy ears - I dunno, just can't make up my mind.

i wouldn't buy these. they are on ear and i believe they are objectively worse than the QC25s (over ear) or QC20 (in ear).
If they're for everyday wear and you don't mind earbuds, check the QC20's. $60 more, but you'll probably find you use them more if you commute.
I bought mine for flying for work and find I use them several hours a day, every day of the week, on the train and at the office when trying to concentrate and just need to knock noise out. I can't speak highly of them enough (which pains me after years of thinking every person with Bose headphones was a knob)
