That's the Ultra Power Saver mode kicking in.
Imagine the increased battery life you are getting everytime it drops out.

  • Damn good phone for the money. Nice build (back cover is 10x better than the S5's, frame is 10000000x better), one of the fastest processors on the market + 720p screen = amazing performance. Camera is also top-notch. Fingerprint scanner is a nice feature. Only downside for me is the speaker, I hate rear firing and mono speakers and this combines them. It sounds ok, but not great. Note I don't own one, I've played with one for a little while.

  • yes it is a nice looking phone… finger scanning doesnt alawys work properly… and as i said… reception very very bad:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-alpha/help/bad-recept…

gonna go dick smith this arvo to get a price match & exchange for new unit see if it improves… which i doubt

  • Go get a HTC One M7 better in every way

    • HTC m8 was actually my old phone. I up/downgraded to this because I preferred a smaller phone.
oooo m7 is the smaller version of the m8 i see….

    • Would have to agree, smaller than the m8 with the same screen size, rez, ram and also Beats audio

Actually the m7 can access more of the screen most of the time because the m8 has onscreen buttons!

Why are we still upvoting 720p phones in 2015 that cost more than $200?

    • when i buy a phone i never consider the screen resolution specs

      • The screen resolution is fine. The signal reception, and overall battery life however of this phone, is a little mediocre.

Do these issues remind you of a certain 'fruit' phone, I wonder….

The battery is small (1000mah smaller than the Galaxy S5) and that's the reason why it has an aggressive power saving mode that turns the screen greyscale and limiting certain features of the phone. Nice idea, but it sounds like a band-aid fix for a small battery. They should probably look into bundling some kind of power bank with the phone, because you're going to need one if you're going to use this phone more than a few hours a day.

        • battery life is fine for my usage… but yeh… signal reception is not just "mediocre"… it's faulty design…

        • I suggest someone post some comparable phones and their respective prices.

  • Samsung have a pretty poor track record of providing timely OS updates for phones that aren't their flagship models. That might be a consideration for some.

    • The price dropped fairly quickly on these too, I'd say the Galaxy Alpha isn't really selling all that well compared to their more well known Note3 / S5 models.

      • They are discontinuing Alpha line according to some rumours, probably that's why they are trying to get rid of the stock.

  • The deal up again today.

  • Yes.. this looks like a good deal.
