CBA Diamond Credit Card Annual Fee Waived for First Year + Note about MAV/Wealth Package

110

Not sure if I'm posting this correctly - welcome feedback to improve the listing.

As previously offered, I noticed that the CBA Diamond Credit Card is being offered with the First Year fee waived.
After that, the normal annual fee kicks back in ($395 / $375)

Note the conditions:

° $0 Annual fee for the first year offer applies to online applications received between 2/2/15 and 19/2/15 with the card being activated by 19/3/15; can be withdrawn at any time at the Bank’s discretion; and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer (except CommBank Awards MasterCard Double Points promotion). Excludes Corporate, Business Liability and existing credit card accounts. After the first year, the then current standard annual fee applicable to your card type will apply. Applications are subject to credit approval. Full Conditions of Use will be included in our Letter of Offer. Fees and charges are payable.

Additional note (which I wasn't aware of) is that the Diamond CC is available with annual fee waived if you have a MAV or Wealth package as part of a Home Loan.

Although this mentions online, I walked into the branch to update my existing CC to Diamond.

*** This is especially useful for those seeking access to the Amex Lounge (as per https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/180675)

Yep…the wealth package is $395 per year and covers a few fees with your home loan and Credit Cards. If you have these services with CBA, you should definitely pay for the wealth package.

    • Thanks Tony,

The lazy sod in me didn't keep checking as I think that previously (I could be wrong) only the Platinum fee would be waived. But when I asked in the bank today, they said that the diamond fee is also waived.

To err on the side of caution - I would confirm that when applying and whoever - please correct me here if I'm wrong.

And I just got the platinum! :)

Reminds me of this episode from Frasier: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0582388/

what is the annual earnings requirement?

you also speak of the Amex lounge, does this mean this diamond deal must be amex?

    • you get two cards, one amex one mastercard. The AMEX card gives you access to eligible AMEX benefits

When I got my MasterCard through CBA, they offered an Amex card that is linked to the same account. There were no extra fees so I took it. Best decision I made (you get more points when using amex). On my netbank, it only shows up as 1 CC account

Good card, but no bonus points offer. Rather wait for something with no 1st year fee + upfront bonus points

    • dont think it's a good card at all (for comparable offerings from other banks)

  • Anyone tried to get their annual fee waived if they already hold this card, while CBA have this offer?

      Only applies to new customers.

This 'black' card is the worst card out of the Big 4 bank offerings.
Points capping, plus no free lounge passes, no worldwide lounge access.

CBA probably have realised they have a shitty card offering and that's why they've actually dropped their annual fee for existing customers. When was the last time a bank has dropped their annual fee?

      • I think all the CBA credit card fees are dropping in March.

Good on them. They've realised they have the worst cards on the market :)

  • I also wan't aware that wealth package included the Diamond card being waived. I went into the branch in Jan and they only said I should upgrade to Platinum because annual fee is waived with the wealth package. Might look into it.

    • As redwiggle pointed out, it's definitely waived on the Diamond.
CBA actually kept automatically upgrading my gold -> platinum -> diamond cards once I got the wealth package.

    • yeah it wasn't when i applied in August 2014. Just call and swapped over. Thanks OP

      • Weird, I've had my diamond card since before then…
        Maybe they think I'm special.

        • I think you are.
One of my mates said he already had a Diamond waived with his Wealth Package already.

          Worth a call anyway!

        • yeah your spend level probably higher then mine.

They gave me platinum for free without wealth package long time ago. But never invited to go Diamond. So i thought i would get it through wealth package, which they said was fine at the start. Got the loan and they said sorry, our bad.

Meh, I'd only consider it if they included some FF points. Otherwise, pointless for me. But cheers OP!

I see what you did there… haha

  • Thanks for the tip about the Diamond Awards card being available to Wealth Package people now.. going to change over from my Platinum Awards card.

  • CommBank sent me a set of Diamond Cards in the mail last week, completely out of the blue as a 'no extra cost' upgrade.

I had the Platinum card, which has previously been upgraded from Gold at 'no extra cost'.

    • Same for me…one day I had a set of Diamond cards in the mail. I didn't ask for them, nor did I get a phone call to say they were coming. Not complaining though :)

I did ring CBA to ask why I got upgraded. They said I hit the max points on my platinum and this automatically upgrades me to the diamond

      • i'm guessing maybe they do it automatically if you have a credit limit of $12,000 or more. so those who don't get upgrade automatically need to increase the credit limit while doing their upgrade.

    • So do you now have to update your CC details for direct debits etc.?

Or are the CC numbers the same? And the expiry date?

      • I have just asked for upgrade from Platinum to Diamond (both free a I have wealth package), and was told the number will change, and "direct debits need to be updated". That also means I must remember to download the transactions for bookkeepiong before they close the account.

        • There used to be a button to show statements for closed accounts, but now I look for it, I can't find it.
I'm not sure if my closed accounts have just disappeared because it's been too long, or if it was only available in the older version of netbank…

        • @damion:
I prefer to download the transactions into Excel or CSV at least.
Yes they used to have statements on closed accounts but I cant find my old one either.

        • @damion:

I know you can only access this function when logging into Netbank as the primary cardholder.

      • Thanks for responses. Bit of a pain but worth it for the extra points I think (Platinum to Diamond). Have downloaded before…necessary for searching.

  • What are the minimum credit limits for the respective card levels? I.e I am on gold and minimum is $4k. Anyone know what platinum and Diamond are?

    • just upgraded mine, minimun credit limit for Diamond is 12k

  • online state

    plat = 6K
    diamond = 18K

  • I was reading another post about Coles credit card and it seems that they have plenty of offers on that card. Someone bought insurance policy on car and life, and been given heaps of Flybuy points. Does CBA has similar thing? It's a pain to have to "find" these benefits so hopefully someone has done it and saves me having to search.
I asked for a quote for our home insurance but even using wealth package discount, their premium is way over others. And no mention about points at all.

    Thanks in advance :-)

  • One plus about the CBA Diamond is the 1.5 Velocity miles earned per dollar spent on ATO payments using the Amex. I think it's one of the best out there as it gives you 3 points per dollar with no cap. Bonus that I have it included in my Weakth package too.
