  Be better if the 15 represented 15%.

  $15 off is like a 1% discount on most international fares.

  $15 off, but you must book online. Makes more sense to go to a travel agent, who can probably offer better fares than online anyway, with options & advice.

  For some strange reason, many people mistakenly believe that airfares online will always be cheaper.

  Convenient comparison for certain days of travel maybe, but not cheapest.

  Agents have many fares that can't even be found online. Only some published fares are online.

  Eg. nett fares where a wholesaler or a consolidator, gets an exclusive deal.

  Many agents have deals like fly one airline to A & another airline back, which can't be found online.

    There was a time when booking online was a better deal - but looks like the tables have turned again.

      I don't think there ever was a time. It was a novelty, pushed by those with online sites selling air. Obviously online sites have low overheads & low staff costs, but some with some airfares, commissions to agents can be as low as 0%. Saw a Qantas fare to USA that was $1199. Take out taxes & charges which with Qantas were $870 something until a few weeks ago & now something like $730ish & so agent is getting commission on $470ish. At a low 3% that's a massive $14 !!! (about 3 coffees)

      So agents have gone to airlines demanding truly exclusive deals, where they can make some money & still be very competitive pricewise.

      A big chunk of outbound international travel in OZ, is still conducted through agents. Not talking to NZ, but mid to long haul, latter especially where the big $$$ are.

        I used to travel with Singapore Airlines every six months or so to the Philippines, and pretty much every time I booked, the price was the same online as through my travel agent.

      haven't seen a online search engine which can offer this. Usually it has to be same airline or codeshare. eg. Virgin & Delta SYD/LAX/SYD.
