  • Our of the 3 options, I recommend international warranty one simply because other ones, you might not even be able to service them because of parts. At the very least, international warranty would mean that they have to fix it for you (though it may take ages). Though this is simply from a glance and low budget laptops are not exactly my interest, so I'd wait till someone other than me comes along.

Also isn't AMD APU on laptops really bad? Just curious. All the people I've come across was saying that AMD on laptops are a no go zone because of heating issues. Might be wrong, I simply thought it might be worth mentioning.

I think it's more likely that people who bought AMD laptops bought them for gaming purposes, and when put under full load most mainstream laptops will get hot and overheat. A laptop that is used normally (the CPU is most of the time, idle) will not really overheat unless there's something wrong with the cooling (dusty heatsinks or whatnot).

A review on the Lenovo IdeaPad G50

      • True. I was looking for a laptop that could replace desktops with some compromises. So when I found an AMD laptop that was reasonably priced, I asked people and they just told me that.

  • I think laptop prices are generally cheaper in Australia than Malaysia.

    • Although that may be the case if the models are avail in both countries, there are many models that are avail in the Malaysian market that are not avail in the Oz market, so there are no direct comparisons as such.

  • No customs implications if goods is below AUD1000. Otherwise have to pay GST.
Look at Dell as well. They offer international warranty.

  • thank you all for your valued feedback.
    did not buy one in the end;
    will still keep looking.
    am using an asus now

malaysia is not as advanced as oz or singapore and it is hard to find tebest deals, genuine products, or well informed salesmen.
lots of misinformation, lack of comeback in case of problems.

Be careful of buying laptops and PC parts from Malaysian stores. For the non-tech savvy they may lie to you about the specifications of the device, or use bait / switch tactics, or generally just rip you off. Never assume the storeperson is on your side. You're a tourist and they see you as nothing more than walking bags of money.
If you want to score a bargain make sure you haggle and price match, and ALWAYS research the prices and compare it to Australian pricing on the internet.
If you're unsure at all, then don't take any risks. Just buy what you need from Aussie stores, much safer and you get local warranty.

  • thank you mr hum and mr scrimshaw.
    malaysia is not oz.
    safeguards are few.
salesmen are not well educated compared to oz so they may be incompetent even if not fraudulent.
    the places looks developed.
sadly the values have taken a beating over the last 50 years.

scrimshaw's comments are very measured and valid.
    singapore may be different.
    incorruptible.
    well regulated.
tourist friendly and government pro-active if tourists are ripped off.

thank you mr hum for your valued info
