Proving past ownership of vehicle?

Hi,

TDLR
Insurance company requires past proof of ownership of vehicle to refund insurance premiums for a motorcycle I sold 9 months ago, to which I no longer have the records for.

Does anyone know if the RTA in NSW provides records of ownership of past vehicles? Stating ownership period? I can't find this online anywhere.

I've tried searching the myRTA website and the closest thing I could find was a Vehicle history check that looks like this sample here

The $21 report is supposed to provide me with

If and why the vehicle was written-off anywhere in Australia from 2004
If the vehicle, its number plates or engine are stolen
The number of owners in NSW
The vehicle's past use eg as a taxi/hire car
If the vehicle has single/joint registered operators
The vehicle's first registration date in NSW.

But nowhere can it prove that I, myself, did own the vehicle from date X to date Y

Do you think if I go into the RTA they would be able to provide me with written proof?

Any other ideas?

Update (later in the afternoon)

Just went into RTA (or Service NSW as they call it now) and they provided with a Confirmation of Registration. She had to ask her manager how to do it though so i guess it's not a common transaction

I then emailed the insurance company and they happily offered a refund

Thanks all!

  • i assume it would be an invoice for the vehicle and a notice of disposal?

    • Hey yeah,it's complicated but I don't have the notice of disposal or any invoice for that matter

      • well then I'd call the insurance company and ask them what they accept

        • Just called them and they said anything "official". So I'll probably head to the RTA to try my luck since there isn't any option on the myrta website

        • @frankfu1122: yep good luck. If you know the seller, see if they have anything from their end (xfer of ownership etc.) that you can have a copy of.

        • @madmouse58:

Thanks @madmouse58. Will probably try that too if I luck out

  • most insurance companies usually accept one month refund from written instructions from you.

This is better then nothing, but of course 'notice of disposal' is the best.

    • Interesting. Well gonna pop into the RTA first and see. Otherwise 1 month is better than nothing

  • +1
